Froggidi

"The Toadstool Parasite Pokemon"
Effect Spore/Liquid Ooze

"Froggidi finds a host in the bog for its spores to consume. It waits in the host until it can conjure a power spell to evolve."
Bogidiboo
Poison/Ghost
"The Bog Witch Pokemon"
Levitate

"Bogidiboo is able to take full control of its host by disseminating its spores through the nervous system. It can use its tail to spring into the air and glide on its shroom-broom."

Wasn't completely pleased with Bogidiboo's design and execution.

- Made adjustments to the broom design so that it is now made out of tongues (which ties in well with the "toad" and "witch" themes). The shroom-broom just didn't work with the weird tail thing.

-Fixed the left eye so it actually looks swollen/missing.

- Simplified the palette of the body to mainly purple to make it look less disjointed.

- Ribidigit needed bolder colors and better outline.

NEW

OLD

I also updated palettes of water starter line away from minty-blue to more of a cerulean.

Cooclock Revisions:
- Simplified Palette
- Wood Carved Design
- Acorn Pendulum

Here's how the final evolutions turned out:

I tried to give a good variety for different selection preferences:
Forbitten, the grass starter, is like the Greninja/Decidueye choice.
Vulcanox, the fire starter, is like the Chenaught/Incineroar choice.
Amphreina, the water starter, is like the Delphox/Primarina choice.

These look pretty cool! Are you going to use them for anything?
Thanks for saying that!

I am planning on getting a decent amount of the pokemon, trainer, and ow sprites finished before getting to development.

I thought I should do a sample trainer sprite. For the trainer classes, I'll use old sprites for bases, but for the main/important characters (such as Lazarus) I will sprite from scratch.

Lazarus

Electric-Type Specialist
The palette and cape resembles a thunderstorm.
His beard resembles a lightning bolt.
He is the leader of the evil organization, the Ten Tyrants.

EDIT: Additional Trainer

Mirtha

Fairy-Type Specialist
Faylore Kingdom Guardian (Gym Leader)
Known for her dazzling smile, she's the advocate for healthy and hygienic society. She grows magical plants that help nourish the kingdom and prevent hunger.
Signature Pokemon: Enamirthy (The Tooth-fairy Pokemon)

EDIT to the EDIT: I updated Mirtha's sprite.

I took a second look at Mirtha...I think I need to do a few changes!

Anyway, here is Mirtha's signature pokemon, Enamirth.

Fairy/Rock Type
Natural Cure/Sturdy

"Enamirth symbiotically remove rotten teeth, consume them, and regrow healthy teeth for others. It loves eating bacteria and it makes its enamel armor strong."

Edit: Added pre-evolution.

Cavitaery

"The Sweet-tooth Pokemon"
Fairy/Rock
Natural Cure/Sturdy
Evolves to Enamirth via maxed-out happiness.

"Cavitaery crave sweet things to attract plaque and bacteria - it's favorite treat of all!"

EDIT: Added a single pokedex image to main thread now that I have at least enough sprites to fill a couple rows.

Woah, these sprites are really well done, and the feeling from see if each of them gives off an air of quality!

The designs themselves also have a very unique feel to them. I can definitely see them existing during the Gen 1 or 2 era!

Brilliant work. Keep it up.
Thanks! Will do :)

Thank you! I am really trying to go for very distinctive concepts so I avoid hearing, "this pokemon looks like a mix between pokemon A and pokemon B".

The concepts are a bit complex, like later era pokemon. However, my palettes and proportions are very gen I and II sprites. Basically they look more animated. Glad you noticed, I was worried some might think the designs are a bit too much.

Updated the Pokedex. Added 7 new sprites (Vasquito, Mosveratu, Frooroot, Harrot, Motherth, Stilbird, and Bornith).

Added the prospective names to the empty dex slots.

Lastly, along with any commentary of your choosing, I would appreciate it if you:
1. Let me know which sprites are your favorites. (let's me know which ones I am doing right)
2. Let me know if any of the concept names interests you. Though some names are obscure, I would like to prioritize completing sprites that are in demand. (I may add typings soon if that helps!)

Thanks again to all who checked out my project :)

Pokedex Updates:

1. Finally tackled the Larvely line. With a bit of effort I finally managed to get the layers of translucent wings, body, and pillowed tails lined and colored neatly. The final result, a fluffy cat-nap moth!

Larvely, Knitnat, & Papillow
Bug/Fairy

Cute Charm (Larvely/Knitnat)
Thick Fat (Papillow)

2. After doing many cute pokemon, I made sure to throw in another formidable beast to balance out the variety. Inspired by native american lore, the Wendigo. The Wendigo is simultaneously gluttonous and emaciated as it needs to continual feast on humans to sustain itself (it's definitely nefarious to say the least). It is also associated with Northern Woodland tribes and times of Winter famine - perfect for an ice/dark type.

Wendevour
Ice/Dark

Intimidate/Ice Body

Enjoy

Thank you :) It means a lot coming from you!

Though, I might have to admit a ton of my design choices happen by chance since I rarely start a sprite with a clear game-plan, just a general idea/concept. I guess you could say they are very on-a-whimsical :p

I'm always excited to see pixel art of fakemon that both fits the 'style' necessarily needed as if it were to be displayed in game, but also showcases a personal style. Your pallets are light hearted, but very consistent and still feel like they have a realistic weight to them, not just full of cotton candy. : ) I also like that this style attends to your trainer sprites as well, but I feel like you could do with larger trainers to show off more of your great detail, but I understand if it doesn't fit into the limitations.

This is the one I think that's the most technically skilled. There's so many details, colors, and accent in this design, but your pallet is very fair to all these saturated colors and well as the sprite being very readable. I'm also fond of the 2nd stage of this evolution line as well, it has a good use of yellow!

Wow, thanks for taking the time to share your commentary.

You are now the second person (the other one from DA) who has singled out Bogidiboo. I spent by far the greatest amount of time editing that sprite! Glad to see it being appreciated :)

Also I completely agree about the trainer sprites. I can only make the trainer sprites wider, I already maxed out the height limitations to do the interesting hair :(

Hmm, perhaps I could sprite all guardians and tyrants sitting on their type-specific throne since you only battle them in the their respective kingdoms. That could actually be really effective both stylistically and functionally based on the canvas size limitation since the areas between the waist and knee optically bends, thus freeing up space to sprite largerscale so long as the chair's back is not taller than the top of the head.

As for the other trainers, I could do a combination of different poses. On a knee (like Wallace, Glacia, Burgh, and Elesa's BW2 sprite), layed out pose (like Elesa's BW sprite), extending to the side crouch (like Koga's sprite), sitting sprite (like Alder/Bruno), bending forward (like Roxie, Flannery, and Marlon). Many of those sprites are for 80x80 or 96 x96 formats, but actually fit or close to fitting 64x64.

Anyway, I am rambling, but I definitely think your critique is useful, and will try to be more innovative with my trainer canvases so I actually have close to a DS scale trainer sprite.

Thanks so much :)

EDIT: Attempted to sprite Vivian w/ throne. She definitely looks more important. Her staff is a magical sickle that she uses to grow magical plants and herbs (this replaces the generic star wand I had before).

As far as the spriting goes, she would look very stumpy without the sitting pose because I sprited wider, but not taller. As such I was able to add in more detail with the seated posture.

Also, yesterday I labor over a crazy-difficult concept to fit onto the small canvas. A carnivorous sea rock with three enchanting sirens. Super tough getting three faces, bodies, and the bottom portion is hidden underwater.

Miragtra - Mirage (Deception) - Tra (three sirens) - play off of Menagetrois

Poison/Ground??? - Not sure about the typing yet...psychic/rock/water might also work as one of the types :/
