Easy: Yes. If your a Nintendo fan, look no further. Even though it may recieve a lot of criticism, if you loved your SP than this is the system for you. The innovativiness is incredible, the two screens can be used as one and the touch screen is a great in the fact that it adds a whole new deminsion to video games. Even though it may not have the best games out now, the upcoming game list contains many great titles that any Nintendo fan will appreciate. Also, while now it may seem as the PSP is the better system, the DS's ports allow it to have add-ons, some of which have been revealed. Two examples are the DS media player (which plays movies, songs, pictures, and allows you to read e-books) and the DS Tv Tuner, which allows you to watch live TV on your DS (look for it at the beginning of next year). Finally, with the FREE internet service coming out, it will truely become an even greater system with a growing community, especially with internet services like DSpeak, which allows you to use your DS as a free cell phone. I have one and am extremely pleased (post in the DS fanclub to see why we love our DS enough to make a fanclub out of it).

Hope this helps - cmatz

EDIT: yay! that makes 1/2k posts! :D

I say that right now, DS isn't worth it at all. The touch screen has not been utilized to its full potential (whatever that may be) yet and most of the add-ons that you have to buy for it just struggle to make it equal to the PSP which already has most of those capabilities built-in. The Play-Yan is only available on a Japan ecommerce website right now, and there is no set American release date. The DS has been out for 5 months now and its owners are still waiting for it to go online in the summer when PSP had 5 online-ready games at launch (also free). The free DS cell phone, I've heard nothing of.

Overall, DS is not worth it at all right now. Wait for a few months to see what kind of games come out for it and then decide. A better upgrade would be a PSP though. Not only is it technically superior in every aspect (displays 16.77 million colors to DS's 260,000; 130,560 pixels on its one screen compared to DS's 49,152 on one screen [in other words, PSP has a high-res screen]; It has the 16:9 screen aspect ratio; The PSP's UMD discs can hold 14.4 times as much information as DS's cartridges and .3GB more than GameCube's discs [means that developers can make games on PSP as big as any console title]; has mp3, mp4 playback capabilities right out of the box; can be used as a digital photo album as well.), the games are just more numerous and of higher quality too.

DS launch in the U.S., it had 6 games. Two of them were N64 ports: Mario64DS, and Ridge Racer.

PSP launch in the U.S. had 24 games. These included 6 exclusive EA sports titles, a new Ridge Racer [unlike the one on DS], an original puzzler(lumines), a new Twisted Metal, a new Darkstalkers (chronicles), and 5 online games.

So if you're looking for an upgrade to SP, go for PSP and not DS. Or just stick with SP for now.

The DS? Oh, most definitely. And for the price, it's hardly an investment at all. Go on ebay and you can get a DS and two games for right around 100 bucks. I did, and I'm more than happy.

Right now, I agree.. there are not many great games for it. I enjoy the puzzle games I have for it (Zookeeper, etc), but right now I'm mostly using it as a GameboyAdvance. Come Mario Kart in a few months.. yes, I'll be on it nonstop.

First of all, i believe this comment was aimed at people who actually have DS's, and their opinion on them. Nothing personal, but i think he wants an opinion from someone who has a DS and what they like about it (like i said, nothing personal, if he was asking about the PSP u'd be his man).

Second of all, don't get me started about games. The DS has TWO N64 remakes, why almost all PSP games are like the ones of the PS2 (EA games, Metal Gear Ac!d [just a crappy version of metal gear solid, an awesome game), wipeout, twisted metal, and plenty more). Not that the games are bad, its just that they are more remakes of PS2 games than DS games are remakes of N64 games. And though i love debating with you (i am one of the few ppl in the world who like debating - hence why i lead our schools debate club) this thread isn't the place.

So sorry mods for going off topic, and now back to what DS owners like (or dislike) about their DS.

And where is that even implied. He just asked if DS was a good replacement for SP.

Two at launch, even more now.

well, you can't fairly comment unless you have played it for long periods of time to fully understand what you like and dislike about it. Nothing against you, but he never even mentioned the option of getting a PSP.

And which ones are on the way? Mario Cart, but thats been on every Nintendo system.

You don't really have to have experienced everything to judge it acurately. While that would help, it is not absolutely neccessary. I know like everything about the DS and have read enough about it to make an informed decision and share that opinion with other people.

I don't think so, atleast at the moment. Pictochat is fun, but essentially useless, and unless your pure Nintendo fan essence influences you to spend more than five minutes using it, you're probably going to:
A- walk up to the person and talk to them(so classic!)
B- use a cell phone

I don't see many other pursued innovations at the moment, unless showing your name and telling time count. Infact, most games use the touch screen as a map or just a way to provide more buttons because of the huge decrease in button count vs the N64. Aside from that, I don't think they have anything other than Nintendogs to show for it.

The DS definetly has some potential, but until we get some large titles, or maybe a price cut, I don't think it's worth it.

Has that even been confirmed? I'm not trying to say you're wrong but do you have a source that says that pictochat will ever go online? I couldn't find one.

wow you guys just go back and forth. I really like the info from all you. cmatz0 I also like to debate. I just saw that in your post and it is something I like to do also. Billy 5572 how much does the PSP cost. I haven't even heard of the PSP yet. Also the reason I wondering about the DS is for the game content. I have the internet but I won't be able to connect with a DS. I don't have anyone else in my family to chat with the pictochat either. I just want to know if there are any good games for the DS out yet. The only good one that I want to get when it comes out is The Advanced Wars one and that's all I've heard of. Have you guys heard of any more

yeah - just go to Nintendo.com and check out the list of DS games. So many great ones are coming, especially Choas Theory DS, Animal Crossing DS, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles DS, and sooooo many more. Check it out - it really is a wonderful system.

Also, the PSP is $250

And billy, when the DS goes online, pictochat will too. I have to study exams, so i can't give you an exact site, but its on nintendo.com

No it's not worth it. One of my friends bought the DS and he regrets it because I showed him my PSP. I don't think it's worth it. The game line up isn't the strongest right now, and in the near future it doesn't seem to improve so much. (Splinter Cell in n64 graphics? that takes all the dynamic lighting and all the realism out!) I'm not hear to recomend a PSP, but it'd be a good idea to get the 150 and save upon that.

Still couldn't find it. This is what I did find: There's no confirmed online pictochat. Maybe you saw this?:

http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2005/02/04/pictochat-online/

Anyway, if it does go online, still get a PSP which already plays games online.

I own an SP, PSP and the NDS and I play all three of them so I should know if it's worth it or not.
If there is a game on it you think you would like then yes you should get it. You'll have a lot of fun with the touch screen games. And the DS is going to have new games out on it soon. So if you don't see a game you like you should check the games that's going to come out and see if you find one of them you like. But if I were you I would look into some facts about the DS an games it's going to have.

Yes. Defenatly. Psp May Seem Better Now. But The Ds Has Sooo Much Future Potential. It Will have The Best Games. Right Now, The Game Selection Isn't The Best, In Most Peoples Opinions (im happy with it XD), but the ds will have the best titles. zelda, metroid, pokemon, ect. And The Touch Screen Has yet To Be used to Its full Ability.

cmatz0 came saying the DS was worth it, but billy5772 started to blame the DS.
What we have here? A Nintendist and a Sonyst [?].
While the Nintendist say all the things he likes about the DS, the Sonyst just blame it.
I dont see a single "PSP" ar cmatz0's first post, while at billy5772's, he talks about the DS all the time. Instead of blaming it, why dont ya say why ya like the PSP?
Saying things like "The DS has no good games". Now tell me a "good" PSP game?
Lumines? DS has Polarium. Metal Gear Ac!d? Wait, thats not a good game. 5 online games launched at the beggining? How many people had a PSP in teh first day?

C'mon, lets all be fair.

myles_master, look at the posts above and decide if ya want a DS, or no. This post of mine is just a compliment~

Have fun touching your PSP's screen, trying to move that thing, and when ya realize, the screen will be compltely damaged~ ^_^

The DS has better graphics than the n64. I read the exact numbers somewhere, but can't seem to find em. o well, you tend to disregard solid facts anyway, so it doesn't really matter. None the less, it would be easy to pull off splinter cell on the ds becuase it doesn't need to have perfect graphics, especially since most of the levels are dark anyway, and i don't think anyone is going to have less fun if the itty bitty details aren't as good. And why do you think that having lesser grahics will make the game worse? How did we all survive with N64's and PS1's back in the 90's? The graphical potential wasn't as good as the systems of today, so the games sucked too? Graphics may make games more detailed, but it does not define how fun a game is. Not by any means.

And future lineup not improving much? Are you serious? The upcoming lineup for the DS is looking great, with very different types of games by many different companies. And with free internet coming out, the future is very bright for the DS.

If the 4th gen Pokemon games come out for the DS... GET IT!!! And by that time, the overall price will have been lowered, plus some good games will have come out by then.

Personally, I'm waiting got the Pokemon games to come out. That's how I got my GBA SP, I got Ruby and Sapphire first.

actually, if you own a ps2 there is not a lot of sense in getting a PSP. unless you really wish you could play your ps2 games outside of your house (and on a smaller screen for that matter, with lesser graphics), or really like the movie and song thing, at this time pretty much all PSP games are PS2 remakes (or games that are similar to PS2 games). That is the biggest reason why my friend isn't getting a PSP - he said he already has a PS2 and doesn't want to blow an extra $100 on playing games that he can play on a bigger screen with better graphics. Of course this is all opinion, but i think the PSP would be much better if it made games that were different than the PS2 lineup.
