Dumb question:
I clicked my character on the map and it says I have forests curse but I'm not sure what it does. How do I check what the curses mean?
Hover over it with your cursor and a box with a curse's description should appear.

You're too kind to give players their starters back. If I checked it right, it will affect me, jdthebud and Radboy... Which means Radboy won't have any curse for the 1st part of the game. But I'm pretty sure Mansion will find the way to fix this.

Do you hear it? We got our starters back!
You made it sound like I waited for this to happen and then I started playing. Ouch.
I didn't know until 20 minutes ago and then I fought the first gym. I'll get to that in a minute.

Part 1: Black Cats are Unlucky
Spoiler:

Alright, time to arrive a little late to the party. I name myself Rad and name my rival Pooks.
I choose Tepig as my starter, still under a curse to box him for all eternity.
I go to Route 19 and catch a Purrloin, and named it Black. I planned to Box it, but I haven't yet.
Need to go to through Route 20 to deliver a map to Pooks. And then the curse hits.
Black is my only Pokemon. Black is frail. Black is level 3. And every Patrat knows Leer.
I lost against the first NPC trainer twice, due to a lack of items and stubbornness.
I grind.
Beat the first two trainers, and get access to the grass. Time to become a legend.
I catch my first serious team member, The Legend the Sunkern.
I grind.
I head to the Ranch, and beat up Pooks with a Sunkern.
He calls me his backup, and sprints full on into the ranch.
I need help. I catch Reeper the Mareep because the Electric Evolved Monotype has *totally* not been finished.
Defeat everyone in the Ranch.
Defeat Alder's students.
*Realize On154288 released the Starter-Lock Hex making Tepig usable again (won't happen) and making me the first player to not have a curse while playing. Cool beans, thanks On154288.
Enter Cheren's gym, with a Sunkern and Mareep duo.
Defeat the gym trainers.
Cheren was tough. He got me the first time and he managed to OHKO me with a crit on Reeper using his Lillipup, and The Legend might be a legend, but falls flat against setup.
Second attempt: The Legend got two Mega Drains off on Patrat, and Reeper cleaned it up. I paralyzed the Lillipup this time, and managed to cleanly KO it. I had some luck, the lillipup never used Work Up.
Time to get cursed again.

Coffee Jeans' Fire Red Mansion Adventure Part 1
The forest's curse forced me to pick Squirtle as my starter. I named him Kooooooopa for some reason.
My early game team options were really limited, I could only choose between Ratatta, Mankey, and Pikachu. Ratatta felt too weak and I wasn't lucky enough to find a Pikachu, so I caught a female Mankey and named it Womankey.
Brock was super easy since both my pokemon had the type advantage.
Time to advance to room 7 and get cursed again!

Update #6 on Ruby:
  • Now that I have Surf, I can do a bunch more things before my next badge.
  • But first, I had to catch a Pokemon for the "Harry, you're a wizard" curse.
  • Thankfully it overrides the Psychic type-banning curse, so I can catch Boing the Spoink on the Jagged Pass.
  • He grows fast since he knows Psybeam, so all those Tentacools I find while Surfing are great fodder.
  • I surf from Petalburg to Dewford and then to Slateport, defeating all the trainers on the way.
  • Completed the New Mauville mission for the Thunderbolt TM.
  • Catch a Linoone on Route 118 as an upgraded HM slave since no one else can learn Strength.
  • Made my way up to the Weather Institute and easily defeated Team Magma.
  • During that stretch, Boing evolved into Grumpig and Thorny evolved into Cacturne.
  • Continued on to Fortree City, beating May on the way.
  • Got the Devon Scope, then took on the Gym. Winona was pretty easy with Smoggy's Thunderbolt and Beamer's Ice Beam.
  • Since she reached L35 during the fight, Smoggy then evolved into Weezing.

Update #3.
Spoiler:
I've always struggled with Burgh.
Mainly because of the types I generally like to play struggle against ground/rock moves.
Therefore I made a decision to find as much dancing grass as possible until I was 100% sure his Dwebble couldn't use rock polish, and then rock blast to end me.
I might've over leveled a little bit.... Okay a lot bit. The battle was uneventful. But at least I didn't wipe so yay?
I caught two eevees in castelia city. One will become umbreon while the other espeon.

BlissyMKW is spooked!
It's finally time for some action! You bravely pull the lever and... nothing happens...

You try again, but nothing happens... Is the statue broken?

What now? Disappointed, you're about to leave, when the statue jumps down the pedestal, glares at you and starts chasing you. It could as well turn into clown now and you wouldn't be surprised.

It chases you for a few minutes and it feels like you've run all over the whole Mansion at least twice, but you finally get rid of it. You find yourself in the whole new room with two tables full of food. You can choose 1 out of 4 plates.

Or you can go up to the room 32 or down to the room 21

Oh and by the way, you should be grateful to us, so this curse is put on you specially by the Event Host (NOTE: The First-encounter clause doesn't apply for the Pokémon you choose for this curse - so you can catch it on any road you've already been).
So before I proceed onward, there's just one thing I want to clarify about this next curse. Audino is available right away because shaking grass, but I'd rather just wait and catch Absol later, but that's not until around Undella Town (AKA 6 badges). So am I basically forced into catching Audino and dragging that thing around or am I free to wait until Route 14 to catch an Absol?

My guess is that because it says "as soon as possible," it means "have fun using a weak Normal type that you can't take out of your party the whole run"

Alright, let's see what Room 29 has in store.
Radboy is almost there!
You feel great! Just a moments ago, you couldn't find your starter, but it's back at your side again now. But another curse is on its way already. And it will be brutal!

Anyway, you made it to the room 29. There is a broken computer on the table. You also notice weird wall just behind the table. Will you investigate the wall?

Or you could run out of here to the room 21.

Time to advance to room 7 and get cursed again!
Coffe Jeans is not my lover...
Your adventure is going great so far. But new curse is placed on you!

And so you get to the new room. There is broken window that leads to the next room with destroyed wall. Is this place really newly build? There are also two teleports that you could use. You also notice the statue in the corner of the room.

Or you could just leave to the room 14.

Since no one's explored it yet, I'll go to Room 5.
jdthebud is in the dark!
It's time to move on! Next room is really small and empty, but it has it's own curse! There is literally only one teleport here. I think it's a good idea to step on it.

From here, you can move to the room 16 on the left or the room 26 up.

Or you could just leave to the room 14.

I await my next curse before advancing further. I choose room 31
Brewmaster has been cursed!
Room 31 is huge room. There is broken computer right next to the entrance. The statue is glaring at you from the other end of the room and you can see a teleport there too.

As you enter you feel pressure of the new curse. But this one is stronger that the one before. It feels like more that one curse is put on you (You can thank CodeHelmet for them).

So, what now? You can either interact with the statue or teleport or leave to the rooms 27 or 41

So before I proceed onward, there's just one thing I want to clarify about this next curse. Audino is available right away because shaking grass, but I'd rather just wait and catch Absol later, but that's not until around Undella Town (AKA 6 badges). My guess is that because it says "as soon as possible," it means "have fun using a weak Normal type that you can't take out of your party the whole run"
Hey, Audino isn't weak! I'm pretty sure it will help you. And you still can use Absol with it.

Also because Spirit Shackle is busy and I'm eager to play, can anyone roll me a curse? You can either say number from 1 to 24 OR pick one curse that has already been revealed to screw me over intentionally.

It was mostly RNG that chose you, but CodeHelmet decided that 2 more curses will be given to someone.

But thank you for the number. I shuffled the curses and then chose 3rd one - Forest’s Curse. That's... half of my team gone + my starter. You chose wisely.

This isn't an update, but more of a hypothetical question.

When I get a new curse that forces me to use a certain Pokemon (for example, one from the Your a wizard, Harry curse it seems a lot of people somehow got), if that Pokemon faints in my playthrough, is it boxed, or can I still use it?

Coffee Jean’s Fire Red Mansion Adventure Part 2

Womankey

Kooooooopa

Yoga Ball
  • Squirtle and Mankey swept through the trainers on Route 3
  • I decided to catch a Geodude in Mt. Moon and named her Yoga Ball
  • Along the way Squirtle evolved into Wartortle
  • I used the move tutors to teach Yoga Ball Mega Punch and Womankey Mega Kick
  • Since my team was weak to Misty (and I was underleveled) I decided to go to Nugget Bridge
  • My rival, Shorts, put up a good fight, but was ultimately no match for the Jeans squad
  • The extra exp from the rest of the trainers on Route 24/25 was super useful since Kooooooopa learned bite
  • Misty Time
  • Ended up with really bad rng on the first fight with water pulse confusion, and lost the fight
  • The second attempt was an easy victory
  • My next move is going to be the taking top left teleporter and seeing where I end up

This isn't a nuzlocke challenge. If your Pokemon faints, you can heal it and use it again. The curse that you highlighted simply states that you must catch and use a Pokemon from that list for the remainder of the challenge and it overrides other curses that would prevent its use(like Light's End Curse). Unless you get a curse that prohibits the use of Pokemon Centers(which would outright SUCK), you're free to faint Pokemon as many times as you want. That is, unless you get a Curse that forces you to box Pokemon the moment they faint.

Good luck in the challenge by the way. They can really dump some hard curses on you if you're not careful.

Yikes. I'll remember that Code when I join something you're playing in a bit.
Eh this is a challenge after all. I had the option of putting 2 curses on a random person or not doing anything. It seems you were the unlucky soul to get picked so *shrugs* unlucky? Besides, I got majorly screwed from badge 5 onward lol. Half of my planned team was banned when they re-did my curses and then reduced my team to a maximum of three... with set mode. I was even forced to swap one of my surviving team members for a different Pokemon because I needed someone to use Strength and Surf(and I didn't need Cut anymore). Didn't allow items during battle and I couldn't teach any TM's after the final Gym(which ultimately didn't hurt but still sucked). Took me HOURS to grind new Pokemon and it was a pain in the arse to put it bluntly.

Part 2: Radboy's first "nuzlocke"
Spoiler:

Ok, so it really isn't a real nuzlocke, but if anything faints, it's gone.
More of a psuedolocke.
Spookylocke.

- Ok, so at first I planned to keep going Sunkern + Mareep, but with the Starter-Hex Lock and removed and this new psuedolocke, I grabbed Tepig out of the box immediately, so Loid the Tepig joined the team!
- I head to route 20 again, and defeated most of the trainers on the route.
- I went to the Virbank Complex, where Reeper evolved into Flaaffy
- The Legend is slowly falling behind in levels, but it still works well against electrics sometimes. (Also Leech Seed)
- I head to the gym, and slowly defeat all of the trainers and Loid evolved into Pignite
Vs. Roxie, I led with Reeper, and defeated the Koffing in 2 hits with a crit. Then her Whirlipede was... whirlipede. Also went down in two hits, now to Loid. Now I wait for the 3rd curse.

Update #7 on Ruby:
  • Made my way down to Lilycove City, and after a long search, caught Crusher the Pinsir.
  • Trained her up by battling the trainers I skipped between Fortree and Lilycove.
  • Defeated May for the final time in front of the Department Store.
  • Surfed down to Mt. Pyre and climbed it to confront Team Magma.
  • Recieved the Blue Orb, then followed them to Slateport, where they stole the submarine.
  • Went back to Lilycove and the Magma Hideout, where I defeated Tabitha.
  • Surfed across the sea to Mossdeep City, where I challenged the gym.
  • Thry were tougher than I expected, but I did defeat Tate and Liza on the second try.

It's time for...

Episode 3 - Super Spooky Vengeful Spirits

Spoiler:
Current Curses: Cursed Bag - TMs only outside of battle, everything else can only be used in battle
First Encounter Clause - Nuzlocke without being a nuzlocke
Demonic Overlords - Audino or Absol must be added to the team and is locked in

So, thinking it over, and to make my life easier, I'm just gonna throw the Audino on the team even though it'll suck until I gain access to some good TMs like Ice Beam and Flamethrower. If it does, by some miracle, do well, then...that's a shocker. Anyway, before we can even worry about that, we have to take a trip to Pokestar Studios...or I can misremember things because I thought you just get forced there instead of having to go there yourself. Also, I forgot that you don't take poison damage outside of battle in Gen 5. That's nice and all, but now I have to catch an Audino and get it leveled up, so...yeah. Let's do that.

Well...the bad news is that the one I got (because catching this thing, for the sake of the curse, goes against the First Encounter Clause) was the lowest possible level I could encounter at Lv. 10. The good news, though, is that it has Regenerator instead of Healer, so...that's something. Still need to get it up 9 levels to catch it up to the rest of the team. That's going to be fun.

So after raising up Doctor Roy, I went and made my Pokestar Studios debut and now, it's time to delve even deeper into the mansion, but the vengeful spirits of the Team Plasma members I destroyed don't want that, so they're here to get in the way. The first one was no match for Anubis since it died from a single Force Palm, so they got scared and ran off. Of course, since they're blocking my way, I have to take them out to proceed, so I gave chase and took down the second one. With those two out of the way, we're off towards Castelia City to do the stuff and things.

Shortly after arriving in the city, we get our first sight of the infamous Ghost Ship of Team Plasma that doesn't need to be in water in a haunted mansion because it's a ghost ship. But anyway, that aside, when we step into the city proper, we get a free bike from a shady clown. I won't argue with it. But our destination is the gym, then to Castelia Sewers, so...to the gym, then the sewers!

Nothing in the curse says I can or can't use the bike, so I'm going to assume I can't since it's not required anywhere and it's an item that isn't a TM. That makes traveling a bit more of a pain, but it's the rules. Anyway, since Burgh is away, the only place to go is the sewers. Because I'm forced to have Hugh along for the ride and he can easily just screw me over, I'll wait until he's out of my hair before I enforce First Encounter Clause for Castelia Sewers. Anyway, speaking of which, we have more vengeful spirits to bring down. After the battle, Anubis must've been quite happy, because she evolved already into Lucario...at Level 20.

After we bring down those vengeful spirits, we find Burgh and get the Strength HM from John. Once he leaves, we are graced with the presence of the best character in the game, the one and only Colress. Anyway, it's time to scout out some encounters and see if anything is worth using, starting with Castelia Sewers. Let's hope for...not Zubat, but of course I get Zubat, and I don't think it's worth using. Passing on it. I'm gonna explore the sewers for items, then we'll get an encounter in Castelia City proper...because that's a thing.

So I went as deep in as I could without having Surf, managed to scoop up the Leftovers (because Leftovers just lying around is a dying breed in Gens 6 and 7), and now it's time to see if Castelia City proper can make up for the epic fail that was the sewers. Spoilers, it doesn't. I found a Rattata and I killed the Rattata. I just want a good Pokemon. Is that too much to ask when I have the potential of getting a curse that can tear my team apart? Well, not counting Route 4 and the cave area in the sewers, that's it for encounters. I'm just gonna go destroy all the Battle Company trainers and then do the gym, I guess.

Allow me to describe how the gym went. Blaze destroyed everything with Braev getting one battle against a Dwebble. Also, Burgh's Levanney...has Cut. It has Cut! Cut! The HM! Why?! It just baffles me why it has such a terrible move. Anyway, yeah, Blaze kinda obliterated the gym, but now I'm underleveled so I'll need to grind. We also get to add Struggle Bug to my collection of useless TMs. I can't wait until I start getting some real TMs. But, grinding awaits after the next curse potentially screws me, so...yup.

Anyway, as for the investigation, it's time to proceed. After the whole statue situation, and I know this is a bad idea, but I'll choose the second of the four plates (and pray).

GoatBoy88 is teleporting!
You step on the teleport and are transported to the room 31 in an instance! And you get another curse during the transportation.

The room is pretty big. There is destroyed wall leading to the another room, but you probably won't be able to get there through the pieces of the wall. You can also see a statue and broken computer. Will you investigate the statue?

Or you could run out of here to the rooms 41, 27 or 14.

I'll advance to room 21 and wait patiently for my next curse.
Miau has great CSS!
As you continue, you feel thirsty, but you can't find your bottle. The curse continues...

Anyway, in this room, there is one teleporter and statue in the corner. You can interact with any of these.

Or you could run out of here to the rooms 29, 43 or 14.

What You Are Called: Inkblots
What You Look Like: Flareon
What You Are Doing: Emerald
What is the Answer to Life?: 42
Room You Wish To Start In: 4
Enter Inkblots
You were waiting for this your whole life. Or maybe the Mansion was waiting for you. Anyway, you're IN! Enjoy your first curse...

And then you can move to the room29.

Doors are for the weak, I want to Investigate the weird wall.
The random number generator wasn't kind to you and you got that one curse that will make your run into the real Nuzlocke. The best part is that it was really just rng screwing with you and not me or ddrox.

Radboy is ready to eat!
The wall opens on its own and you find yourself in a big dinning room. There are several tables with plates on them. You could swear there was someone sitting and eating just a moment ago. You can choose one out of 3 plates to eat from. Or you could interact with a statue in the corner of the room.

Otherwise you can leave to the rooms 21 or 32.

I'll move left to Room 16.
I have a feeling that someone should put a Forest's Curse on you soon...

jdthebud is moving forward
That teleport is really suspicious, so you rather move along. You found nothing but a broken TV and a weird wall in this room. But at least you get another curse. That's win, right?

Will you investigate the wall or return back?

Anyway, as for the investigation, it's time to proceed. After the whole statue situation, and I know this is a bad idea, but I'll choose the second of the four plates (and pray).
Blissy should try new diet
Yay, it's dinner time already. But you should watch what are you eating as you just tried to bite of part of the Toxapex. That's not good...

You quickly get up and run towards the next room in a hope to see a toilet. But there is only a phone and old fax on the table.

You can leave to the rooms 11 and 17 from here. Or go back and try another plate in the room 43.

Coffee Jean’s Fire Red Mansion Adventure Part 3

Womankey

Kooooooopa

Yoga Ball

Sleepyboi
  • Fire red doesn't have any good held items, so the curse is pretty useless
  • I've realised my team has a major grass weakness
  • I can't catch bug/flying/poison
  • I catch a Drowzee (named Sleepyboi) to deal with grass/poison types
  • Sleepyboi is a great Ivysaur counter in the rival battle
  • The gym gets swept by Yoga Ball
My next move is to go to room 27

Update #8 on Ruby:
  • After teaching some non-damaging moves to comply with the new curse, I went Diving.
  • Found the missing submarine in the Seafloor Cavern.
  • After beating all the Magma Grunts and Admins, I defeated Maxie easily with Smoggy.
  • Groudon summoned the intense sunlight, and I went to Sootopolis to fix it.
  • Caught Groudon with a Great Ball (!!!) in the Cave of Origin.
  • Did a little exploring with Dive, then challenged the gym.
  • I am underleveled, but I did outlast Wallace on the second try.

Coffee Jeans goes to the next room!
You bravely go to the next room, still shrouded in the darkness. But it still has a new curse ready for you.

There is a broken TV and a statue. You can investigate both of them or you can move up to the room 5.

I'll investigate the wall.
You avoided all the rooms with special events and I want to give you Forest's Curse just for that... But let's see if RNG is kind to you...

jdthebud is at the end!
As you touch the wall, it reveals secret passage behind it. You decides to follow the dark trail and after a while you step out to the huge room. Suddenly, you feel like changing your team a little bit...

You can see Absol slowly approaching you: "Your journey is almost over, but the biggest challenge is waiting on you... Good luck." You here its voice.

Alright, first gym completed and I will move to room 29

Spoiler:

Aww darn, I do so many Nuzlocke-type challenges I was kind of hoping to NOT have that particular curse lol at least I don't have a limit on how many pokemon I can catch (yet), let's get this thing going

- rescued Prof Birch using Torchic and I think we're going to go with demon/deity-themed names and kick it off with Lucifer
- beat Brendan in first rival battle
- caught Wurmple (Beelzebub), Zigzagoon (Verrine), Poochyena (Anubis)
- welp. I didn't even make it to Petalburg before loosing Lucifer. Because I thought "ah, we're close enough to a pokemon centre I don't need to use an antidote" and I was wrong. Sorry Lucifer.
- Beelzebub evolved into Cascoon
- aaaaaand made another dumb mistake and lost Anubis. This isn’t going well.
- caught another Poochyena (Pythius) for safety’s sake
- And Beelzebub just got one-shoted by a seedot. A SEEDOT.
- what is going on I've never done this badly on a Nuzlocke
- Caught a Marill (Amemasu), another Wurmple (Bifrons), Lotad (Lotan), Taillow (Apollyon), and a Wingull (Valac - boxed)
- Wow, I haven't played Emerald in a long time, I forgot how much more type-variety there is at the beginning than FR/LG
- Decided to switch Valac for Apollyon since Valac is dual-type
- Bifrons evolved into Cascoon while grinding
- And was promptly knocked out by a Taillow. Because I got cocky. And momentarily forgot that type advantages are a thing.
- Apollyon, I guess you’re back on the team
- alright, after VERY CAREFULLY getting everybody up to level 10, I’m going into Petalburg Woods. Maybe we can get through this without anybody dying.
- Caught Shroomish (Gusoyn - boxed)
- Saved the Devon Researcher
- Got through Petalburg Woods easily with Apollyon
- Made it to Rusboro City with no additional deaths, hurrah!
- Okay, Roxanne, rock types. I can do rock types.
- Oh. Right. She has a goddamn Nosepass. I hate Nosepass. Okay. caaaaaarefully….
- Aaaaand we’re good, no problem

Current team:

Amemasu the Impish Marill

Lotan the Docile Lotad

Apollyon the Adamant Taillow

Pythius the Mild Poochyena

Verrine the Adamant Zigzagoon

Valac the Jolly Wingull
