Current Affairs are allowed here now... so I think it's OK.

Anyways: http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/14/disney.death.ap/index.html

To be honest, it's the parents' fault. They obviously must have read that it's unsuitable for young kids, and even though the kid met the height restrictions, if I was his parent, I wouldn't have put him anywhere near that ride to be honest! It was either that they couldn't utter the simple word "no" to him, or that they were somehow stupidly ignorant of the warning symbols that were around the Mission: Space ride.

Unless it's changed since last year when I went on it, it really would not have been safe for a 4-year-old to go on. But, that's my opinion of course.

Whoa...I thought the kid was like eight or something? That's just some really bad parenting, sure he met the restrictions and all, but with all the warnings signs... Meh, I guess it was the parents choice, I wouldn't have let the kid go on that thing. It's just to risky for a kid I guess.

One part of me almost wants to laugh because I can't believe parents would be stupid enough to let their four-year-old on a ride like that. Though, mind you, I'm ignorant enough to not have any idea what kind of ride that is, but I know that at amusement parks, things that are potentially dangerous are well marks and, well, let's face it -- someone at that age should even BE on anything more dangerous than a merry-go-round. <_<;

The other part of me feels really bad because the poor kid was probably looking forward to the trip for ages. Then he dies. D: That must suck.

I can't believe the kid's parents let him go on that. o.O;;; Even though he may have reached the height limit, he's still a little child, and his body is small and fragile. They should've known better, and it's pretty upsetting if you think about it. ;-;

They really need to be arrested for child endangerment, but if any of you know anything about the child welfare system in Florida, you know that they care less about the safety of children than any state in the nation. Just think about Jessica Lunsford and Sarah Lunde, both little girls who were raped and murdered--they let child rapists roam the country with little or no restriction, AND it seems they're reluctant to prosecute them to the full extent of the law in the first place. This is just another example of Florida's apathy. I would also go into the sad state of parenting in this country, but it seems most people have gone into that already so I won't =/

I didn't see that anywhere on the site. ^_^; Am I missing something?

Anyway, that sucks. And naturally, everybody blames the parents. I do actually agree with this being the parents' fault, but as obvious as it may have been, it's also the fault of the amusement park owners for not making it more clear that this kind of incident was possible. =\

Yeah... I heard about this yesterday too...

It's not really the park's fault though. I've been on Mission Space, this past summer actually. There are warnings everywhere. Literally every five seconds you either see or hear a warning about health hazards and things like that that could possibly go wrong. And if the kid met requirements, the park can't really stop him from riding...

Having been on the ride myself, I don't know why parents would let a 4 year-old go on it. O_o; I was afraid my 11 year-old sister would freak out or get sick on it...

I read that incident a few days ago in my local paper. I personally think that both the child's parents and the management of the amusement park is at fault. They should have not allowed the child to ride such an intense ride, but the parents should also not have brought their young child to such an intense ride in the first place too.

Actually, Disney World make it very cleear to parents. Out of all of the rides at the park, this one has the most warning symbols of the lot! If hte parents sue Disney World, then I really see no hope left in th justice system -_-

All you guys agree with each other. You just say something because someone else says something. I don't think the parents should've been arrested. Do you think they knew that he would die? No. And I don't think a lot of parents would let their 4 year old child go on that ride, but I can see if they let them. I would be sad looking at these posts if I were the parents.

When I heard I was like WHOA! But I agree, it's the parents fault...I mean, that's what warnings are for.

They were arrested? Well... I'm not sure they should havegone that far, as they technically didn't do anything wrong by letting him go on, but still.

Anyways, just because we all agree with each other doesn't mean we copy or anything. I mean, unless someone comes on here and copies someone's opinion to try and make themselves look popular when they're obviously not, these are our real feelings towards the parents (mostly) and their kid. Oh, and if I was the boy's parents, I'd be feeling very stupid if I was reading some of the comments on this board, not sad.

And you singled out my post WHY?

Negligence is negligence, whether the parents know it at the time or not. The difference between murder and manslaughter is that in murder, one willfully commits the act of killing someone, and in manslaughter, it is accidental. I'm not calling the parents either of those, but the government's child welfare system needs to make a statement--arresting the parents would make a lot of people think twice before even accidentally endangering their children.

I say something because it's MY OWN opinion; it's not fair to grab a random post and mention bandwagoning. Either you like to play devil's advocate in these sort of situations or you simply don't agree, but don't accuse anyone of saying something because everyone else is saying it...it's a little thing called popular concensus.

Maybe so. But the kid was 4 years old (is it just me or is 3'9 a little tall for a 4 year old? It might just be me) his parents shouldn't have let him go on the ride. If they really cared about their kid then they wouldn't have let him on the ride. I'm sorry for their loss but in a way they are the ones that killed their son.
And you wouldn't be saying "You just say something because someone else says something." if everyone agreed with you. You got your options then say them. But don't go around saying we all agree with each other because someone said this or that and we will just go with that.

I was at Disney World last October, on TV (the Disney World channel) they talked about the Mission: Space ride. They gave all sorts of warnings about the ride. Go to Disney World's site on the Mission: Space ride they give warnings there as well.
