I switched to PC gaming and PC ports because consoles got too expensive for my current budget.

Buuuut also, building up a good gaming PC costs just as much or more than a whole console, come to find out. whoops
Thing is, Computers can do more than just gaming while a gaming console is explicitly for gaming. PC also has better selection of games(imo) and can yield far better picture quality since Computer Monitors are way better than any TV on the market right now(especially for FPS games). What you use the Computer for, much less what games you play, determine what component(s) you ultimately have to spare no expense on. Typically though, a gaming PC demands a top of the line CPU and a good, if not top of the line GPU to go with it. However if you're going with a 1080/60 Hz Monitor, then you can get away with a budget GPU, although you won't be able to experience the sheer awesome that a top line GPU and Monitor can provide.

Overall though, Gaming PC's are more expensive than Gaming Consoles but as the old saying goes: "You get what you pay for". Plus you have no idea how expensive PS5 is going to be later this year :D

Sometimes, though, with a Gaming PC you have to continually shell out money to potentially upgrade/replace it, though, because things go out of date rather quickly. :dansad: I'm too cheap to deal with that lmao

most of the games i play are on console or end up on console so i mean .... might as well just get what i'm already used to instead of starting fresh and shelling out so much more money bc of it.

(and as for the ps5 and other future consoles i never get those on release so chances are i'll get a preowned one once there is a game i really want on said console lol)

I need to get between 8 and 16 GB of RAM to upgrade mine so I can play Cities: Skylines at the city sizes I want, and maybe eye a new video card in a couple years, and probably pick up another couple SSDs, but other than that, I should be good until 2024.

I went the opposite way to most of you guys.

I used to use a PC for everything and yes I did use them for gaming too a very long time ago but I got sick of the hassle and maintenance and one day just decided to get rid of PC's entirely.

I've always preferred consoles for gaming (I like handhelds even more) and now just use a smallish laptop for everything that can't be done on my phone. It was really liberating for me but I guess it's not for everyone.

Haha I understand that completely. I didn't really go on my laptop for like... two years and only did things on my phone unless I wanted to do something like colour or draw (or it was something work related) until I started going back on the computer again last year around November.

Honestly if it wasn't for the people on Discord and PC I wouldn't have a reason to be on a PC hahah.

I’m a Mac user, just sitting on the sidelines listening to this PC talk.
I used to game on Mac's back in the day(90's *cough* man I'm old), but their quality, much less price compared to other PC makers is horridly bad. One can argue they dropped Computers from Apple's name because they're not exclusively a Computer maker anymore but I think its because their computers aren't the value that they once were(80's and 90's PowerMac's were pretty dope. Now they're overpriced paper-weights).

I hope to build my own computer in the coming year or so because Windows 7 support is slated to end(forcing a rig update). Thinking along the lines of the following components:

CPU: Latest and greatest AMD Ryzen(thinking 3900X but who knows). I will give Intel a very strong look with regards to their 10nm CPU's that they're finally starting to bring to market but are limited to Laptops right now. Wanting to see what their PC 10nm CPU's would bring to the table and at what price(typical Intel being quiet on it because they have nothing to say. Otherwise they would have by now to try and fend off AMD).
Motherboard: Basically whatever I pick for CPU, I have to pick a compatible Motherboard. Probably will go Gigabyte or MSI in this department.
RAM: DDR5 RAM is nearly on the market(2020 was the earliest I heard) but odds are I'll go with 32 GB of DDR4 RAM(2666 MHz speed or faster if the CPU can support it). RAM maker really doesn't matter all too much.
GPU: NVidia RTX 2080. Bit of a splurge I know but I want to get something that will last me for a solid decade and this card ought to do it. It's come down in price since its release so when I finally get around to actually buying components, the price won't sting as much. I might downgrade to a 2060 if I want to save a bit of $$$.
Case: Full Tower case to fit everything
Cooling: Closed-Loop Water Cool kit. Been wanting to do one and with today's components, Water-Cooling is almost a must because these components are Energy hogs and hence generate gobs of heat.
Hard Drive: 2 x SSD's. One for Operating System and games I play often. Other for everything else. As for size, thinking 500 GB for first one and 1 TB for 2nd one. Might get a 3 TB storage HDD as a backup.
Monitor: 27-31 inch 2560 x 1440 resolution(or better), 144 Hz and 1-4 ms response time. There's literally 8k Monitors out there but I can't see a reason to go anything beyond 4k at this point in time.

Right now, the above pushes $3k(if not more). Keep in mind that the computer I'm typing on right now is circa 2010 with hardware even older than that. I'm way overdue for a new rig.

Hah... my stuff is so old... I forgot what's even in it. One of the first I7 processors though, that much I know. Think it's an I7-860 or something like that. 8GB of RAM that is DDR3 at like... 800 MHz I think(slow as balls i know) and the GPU got replaced with an old NVidia card from like 2012ish or so(maybe newer. I think its an RTX 730 or something along those lines. Its old that much is certain).

My Cpu: I7-860 <- so old they don't even make it anymore lol

I have the Surface Book 2 and while it isn't too amazing or anything specs wise, it survives just fine being futureproof for the time being and it'll definitely serve me well for the next few years.

Sure, but tbh.. I more of questioned how to get most of the info about my PC than comment the specs. ;-; I'm so dumb sometimes

Ahahah, three thousand dollar computer...

How I wish I could, but I'm lucky to get a $300 graphics card.

(Though my dream PC would definitely run me about $1000, whoops)

Ah yes that can be difficult at times, when its pre-built you can often just look up the name of the PC and there would be at least some sites which explain what it has in contents.
then there is me who forgot half of the stuff I have inserted in my own PC oops

EDIT: in classic TY version I forgot about a program called Speccy which lists your specs in a neat overview

You know that there are online videos and sites that go through part by part gaming PC’s for $1k or less. Typically they’re I-3 or I-5 intel processors(or AMD seeing as they dominate the budget realm) with an AMD GPU(since NVidia is like Intel and charges a premium for models that are several years old and AMD is the king of budget builds). My build above is pricey but uses the latest and greatest(which has a premium lopped onto it for companies to maximize ROI) and includes a new Monitor(which adds like $500 or so depending on the model and specs).

A site I like to use is PCPartpicker Pre-built builds on there for the budget gamer and then custom builds for the enthusiast. Also can dabble by making your own or looking up parts and what it might cost you.

Then you definitely don't want to watch the video in the spoiler... lol. TLDR: A married guy would not be buying it(or single Dad with kids) and screw the Iron Throne when you can get what's in the spoiler...

Spoiler:

Btw, are we doing a Get Together this year or... we not bothering? I only ask because its now June.

I won the Ice Cream contest last year. Hope to do so again this year if there is one and if there's a decent VPP prize attached to it. Participants who also did FTE benefited as well(Running Shoes and Jetpack have served me well).

What should the theme be? GoT inspired since the series ended or SwSh?
