I noticed, a while ago, that I tend to like the Pokemon with the saddest backstories. :/ Necrozma, Yamask, the Ultra Beasts (in the original SuMo, a pretty big deal was made of them being scared creatures pulled out of their homes), Victini (it spent 200 years in hiding)...Even Oshawott, one of my only favorite Pokemon that's relatively ''normal'', I originally came to love so much because everyone else was calling it ugly and I felt sorry for it. (And, well, I'm a contrarian by nature - but still! LOL)
If I may get philosophical here...I think on some level it's because I'm always the one being cared for by others in real life, and I like being able to do that for someone (or something) else in the games.
