What "where did babies come from" white lie did you parents tell you as a child before telling you the truth?

My parents said the baby store lie.

I remember watching The Land Before Time and assuming that infants hatched from eggs. I also recall being around 4 or 5 and asking my mother where my egg shell was. I don’t think she knew what I was talking about and if she did, she gave me no explanation on how babies were made.

I casually figured it out on my own because I never cared enough to ask.

Simply put, I love humans.

I don't think I was lied to since I'm pretty sure I never asked.

However one of my siblings did ask at a very young age and was given an honest answer.

I never asked. Did the same thing Saturn did really, just put it all together myself.

I think I always knew babies grew inside mums, there was never a story or deception there. I remember we had some cool book with pictures taken of fetuses at different stages (inside the womb, alive and well ok) and it was very cool for the time that they could do that. This book: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Child_Is_Born_(book) so when I learned to read and tried to read every book in my parents' bookshelves, this was one of them. Sometimes the truth is the coolest story :)

"Hey, you know how the stork is fake? So is Santa!" - My mom to seven year old me
Destroyed me for a while.

Mom tried to give me the "you know what" talk when I was nine, but I didn't understand any of it except girls bleed from their butts every once in a while. Oh how naive I was.

Then sex ed happened when I was 13. I figured it out on my own then.

my mom was pretty upfront with where babies came from lol she didn't really subscribe to the whole "sex is a DIRTY word so kids shouldn't find out" train of thought sooooo

Like some people here, don't think I ever recall asking my parents the baby question. I believe I figured it out at a fairly early age from watching tv shows featuring the mother pregnant haha.

My parents never lied to me about where babies came from. When my mom got pregnant with my brother, they bought this book/board game combo for kids that very clearly explains the whole process. I still have the picture book and flip through it sometimes for a laugh.

Anyway, the very next day they got a talking-to from my preschool because apparently 4-year-old me had taken it upon herself to teach all the other kids exactly where babies come from...... complete with my own diagrams LOL.

I genuinely don’t remember asking, but then again my memory is absolute muke so I could be wrong on that. But I’m pretty sure my parents told me like. A very very simplistic explanation of how it worked? Maybe? I’m not sure honestly.

We had sex ed in grade 6 but before that it actually never really caught my attention? My mother said I asked when I was a toddler and she said "a cabbage patch". Likely in reference to those cabbage patch kids dolls?

i didn't ask lmfao. i never really cared to know, so i never brought it up with my parents. i learned through school. had i asked my mom, she probably would have just told me "from mommy's tummy" which isn't a total lie, but just dumbed down. if i had asked my dad on the other hand, he probably would have told me straight up. even when i was very little, he took me seriously and would just be honest with me. which led to me going to him first if i ever had any questions lol. i think honesty (within reason - like you don't need to explain the entire process like fallopian tubes n muk to like. a four year old) is the best policy when it comes to this stuff.

edit: just remembered that my dad bought my an encylopedia set when i was about 9? and it had a human body section, including these like. see through pages with the process of a fetus growing. like you turned the pages and saw it develop more. so like there was no hiding it from me that they grew in the uterus, i just don't think i understood how that was made until they taught us at school when we learned reproduction. also a scary thing - i didn't know you had to actively participate in sex. like i thought the penis slithered into the vagina like a snake. i blame that 'mom turn your headlights on there's a snake in your garden' joke i heard at a young age. and that joke is a PRIME example of why NOT to use stupid names for genitals.

Never had the conversation, lol. Not that my parents were prude about it, they would openly have sexual discussions in front of me, but I think they just assumed I was already sexually active by the time that conversation would have normally happened for other kids. Then sex education was (poorly) taught and any missing pieces were filled in by the internet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
