ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Arlington police are investigating whether an officer responded properly to a wounded deer.

Police spokesman Matt Martin says the deer was found back on June 18th in the 6900 block of Williamsburg Boulevard, after apparently falling 30 feet from Route 66. It was still alive, but was suffering, so the officer decided to kill it to end it suffering.

First, he shot it, but the deer was still alive. So he tried to run it over with a police cruiser, but that didn't work either. Finally, the officer put a plastic bag over the deer's head and suffocated it.

The officer's name hasn't been released.

Martin says that's not the way the department normally does business. He says Arlington police are working with other agencies on their policies so that Arlington County is better equipped to handle the situation next time. He says police typically deal with one or two such cases a year.

What a nimrod...all he could have done was bring it to a vet or treat the wounds if he could, not repeatedly run it over, shoot it and suffocate it 'till it passes out and dies. Gawd...although this unfortunately reminds me of "Me, Myself and Irene"...

i say the same thing that The Hunk says "How do you feel about this? My initial thought was, gosh just shoot it. You don't have to go to those limits to put it out of it's misery."
Isnt it cold outside?
When it feel like no ones loving you
But Im watching you
And Ill never hold you down
And they say
That souls can never fade
But along the way
It seem your shadow was erased
Life is jaded, love had faded
Let me take you away from here oh
Let me kiss you, they wont miss you
Let me lift you away from here
Arent you paranoid?
When it feels like someones watching you?
But Im protecting you
And you need not be afraid
And they said
To follow voices in your head
And thats where I fed
My soul when I was dead
Life is jaded, love had faded
Let me take you away from here oh
Let me kiss you, they wont miss you
Let me lift you away from here

Well, the police officer should have realised that it might have had a chance of surviving... but I accept that he would have wanted to put it out of it's misery though. But really... he should have just shot it in the head, as shooting it in the stmoach actually does the least amount of damage.

If it was me, then I'd have moved the deer, called a vet or something, then waited with it or something... But I wasn't that policeman or anything -_-

Well, it had fallen 30 feet, so it's chances of surviving weren't exactly the best. So, yes, I say kill it, but do it swiftly and neatly. As Jon said, the stomach isn't the best place to do that.

Basically, I think he did the best thing (not the right, I don't think there is a right/wrong to this), but not properly.

I say if you can't keep it alive leave it alone or take it to the vet let people who know what they're doing take care of it

-.-;;

That policeman is certainly a dumbass. He needs to:

1) Get more common sense
2) More target practice
3) Be shot, run over and sufficated

XD
lol That's too funny. Scary too... as expected of pokejungle. :P

He did the wrong thing for the right reasons. That is mainly all I have to say.But if there was not a vet nearby I would have took it to a regular hospital either way.

What?! O.o; That officer should have learned his limits. I mean - suffocating it?! O.o; He should have gave it first aid... if the deer could've survived all those trials, it should have lived, or at least had a chance. ;-;
