I have a hack concept that I want to test out once I start using the pokeemerald disassembly, but I wanted to check something first. Is it possible to create a 2-on-1 (and vise-versa) battle, without having 2 Pokemon on both sides of the field at first? I tested it with Fire Red and PGE's trainer editor, and it resulted in two copies of the player/NPC's only Pokemon fighting the opponent, with the battle ending if one was defeated. I haven't seen this done before in a rom hack, so any help would be appreciated.

So you'll notice that in the gen3 games, no double battle trainers (twins, loving couple, sr and jr, etc) will fight you if you don't have more than one pokemon. This is to subtly cover up the fact that there is no code in any of the gen 3 games that correctly handles what to do if you just have one pokemon vs 2. You would have to write a fairly substantial amount of code to handle that case, which is dumb because it's really not a hard case to handle and other games do it, but that's the decision they made in 2002 I guess and we have to live with it
