I still don't know why people hate object based Pokemon so much, they're not even that bad. u_u
Will attempt to explain. Explores dark caves, sandy shores, and tall grass. Expects to see creatures similar to those in nature: birds, rodents, fish, reptiles, and so on. Imagines befriending a spiky shrew, petting it, and teaching it how to battle.
Feels off when applied to Pokemon like Palossand and Chandelure. Resembles the object too closely. Fails to jump from "object" to "creature". Why would you pet a keyring? Never feels alive. Breaks the suspension of disbelief.
Escapes this trap with Pokemon like Geodude (sort of). Gave it more than just eyes and a mouth. Stuck arms on it too. Becomes less of a pet rock and more of a rock creature.
Alternatively, why would Clippy be a bad Pokemon?
