In my topic I made yesterday or 2 days ago or whenever it was, I asked some rep questions. As you might know. People said go to the FAQ, then a super mod said it and locked the topic. One of my 2 questions wasn't answered in the FAQ (I admit that my first question was and I just didn't see it). So people: If you're going to lock a topic because there's an FAQ, make sure the answer to the question(s) is/are actually in it.

Anyways, here's my question that isn't answered in the FAQ: Why is less bad rep given than good rep when you give rep to someone?

I'm not entirely sure, since that's just how it is by default with vBulletin software, but my guess would be to prevent people from fully abusing it. Not that it helps, of course...but anyway. Perhaps it's just because getting bad rep period (assuming it's for an actual reason) should be enough to make the person shape up, so it's more the symbol of bad rep that makes the impression rather than the actual number of points it knocks off.

Like I said, I'm not really sure...it's never really been brought up before as far as I can recall.

Actually, that thread doesn't have the answer to that question...

I would simply say because bad rep is abused far more than good rep is...so for newer members it kind of lessens the blow when someone wantonly gives them malicious rep...unless someone with high rep does, then it devastates them and they probably leave or something <_<;

I do agree, the thread shouldn't have been locked so soon.

But I think the reason why it gives half is because someone could be going around bad rep spamming and take down a good bit of rep (I don't think it was planed for normal forums to have members with such high rep like we do here on PC, and their rep power would be lower if their over all rep is lower). I'm not really 100% sure why it's half, it's just the way vB is set up.

It's 1/4 of the rep amount in a positive rep, which, I believe would be 1/4 of your rep power. I'm not completely sure.
It's 1/2 the member's rep power.

If your rep power is 100 then when you give bad rep it's going to be 50.

If there's too much good rep, more bad rep power should be given.

Ah. So the rep system was never modified in any way by the admins?
Nope. From what I know it is default.

Could you hack the software? I'm sure it wouldn't be hard~

o_o... I think it's a mainly randomised thing, sometimes I get bad reputation like when me and Dekota got fisty with eachother and I "blip" Him out =/. I got a bad rep worth 300 points, at the time thats all I had so I was out for awhile.

However I got a bad rep not to resently from being to optamistic once ^^; got no more then 50 taken off and it wasint that bad, at the same time I was given a rep just resently worth 350 Good points, and once I got one for only 80 points.

In a way it also seems to depend on who gives the reputation, if they already have high rep they might change how much you get being that they may be good judges and have you really desearve rep . Bouncing it up to 500 at times o_O!
While if it's a bad rep it may bring you down a whole 600+. One person I know got that and not long after he was banned T_T Poor JK.

=D in a way it's good though, having someone get bad rep and it being a lower amount then good rep can possibly help in given them a chance to change there ways =3 I'm sure I would still be a red blocker if Dekota wasint the only one voting for me to be so at the time o_o

o.o have you tried doing what I did, athough I think it is for safty reasons that it is not told because that would be causing more flaming and there is no reason for it ^^ Just think of that person as being disrespectful and leave it be =D Like what has been said in the past, good rep/bad rep, it was just made for fun and for the help of people knowing how well you are =3. You still have green blocks so it's possibly best not to go after them ^^;

And not to be mean, but maybe there is a chance that you made a post worth that bad reputation calling you a prick, you could have been to overbaring or you steped over a line and they didint like how you got so they tried doing that to set you in place ^^ Dekota did that to me once and I deserved it for sure o_O .

I need someone who can see who gave me rep, because someone called me a prick in rep.
Was there really a need to state that word? ^^;

Anyway, if an admin does find out who did it, I'm pretty sure they wont tell you who it was...that would only cause flame wars. And hey, you might as well had been a...yea. Go figure. :\ your not always going to get positive rep, but the name was unnecessary.

If I have a problem with someone I give them a number of bad reputation sometimes and tell them why and who I am every time cause I'm not scared of anyone =D Ask Maks, I gave him one and IMed him in a personal messanger to tell him how mean he was to Forest grovyle. I flamed off the forum but I gave a chance for him to rewrite his mistakes and gave him good reputation in the end and stoped my bad reputation list from getting larger Oo;
(Yes I keep a list of people who deserve bad reps for the next time I happen to see them posting in my thred)

But I agree with ^ =/ it would only start a flame war and would cause no purpose to you in this community. ^^; I'm sure whoever said it and whom may have been seen by a Moderator(Admin, already got there punishment=D

There are reasons for members not being allowed to see who repped them (until quite recently, mods couldn't either, it was only senior staff). Things like that result in flame wars. If you don't approve of people bad-repping you, just disable your rep in your profile.
