With the much anticipated release of the PS3 looming closer and closer, it is ever more apparent that Sony needs a bombshell to sell the system. Well, with recent events, it is my opinion that they may have that bombshell.

The bombshell that I'm talking about is the ever-longed remake of Final Fantasy VII. Well, I recently got a chance to see the Tech Demo on Cinematech, and I got to tell you, if it's not being remade, then Square's really messin' with our heads.

Now for some speculation:

The big question: If there is going to be a remake (of FFVII) for the PS3, then when would it come out? Since this is a system that probably has two years before its initial release, there's no ruling out the possibility of FFVII being a launch title (imagine a Final Fantasy game being a system's launch title).

Second thing: What graphical engine are they using? Well, if they stay true to the Demo, it'll be the same engine that they're using in FFVII: Advent Children, which means NO MORE POPEYE ARMS! And, Cloud looked exactly like his movie counterpart in AC.

Does that mean, this could be Sephiroth?

Since I'm terrible at closing articles, I'll leave you with some thoughts. Is the grass really greener on the other side? Do robots really run the country? And how close are we to the 'end'?

So, what are your thoughts on this? Are they remaking it, or are they just messing with us again? You decide.
If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you will never get it done.

It would be good to have FFVII's graphics finally look lke they're not made out of Legos, but honestly, I'm looking forward more to the GBA remake of IV that I've been hearing about.

Officially, Square has said that they are not currently remaking the game, as it would take a lot of man-hours to make it. However, they also said it's not entirely out of the question for it being a project down the line.

Oh, and Playstation 3 is still scheduled for Spring 2006, not two years from now.

Sorry, I hate to be mean about something I love dearly, but isn't this old news?

Square has said repeatedly that they wouldn't release a new version of the game until the original(PS1) version of the game was unable to play on the system hardware, and sadly(in this case), PS3 is backwards compatible all the way up to PS1's generation.
Not only that, but at e3 Square said plainly that they had no plans of reincarnating this game at the moment.

But in light of this, 1up has given us new hope in-

'1UP: OK. My last question is, the FF7 tech demo for PS3 is very provocative. And there are only probably about 15 million people out there who would like to see it become a game. Is he as interested in seeing an FF7 remake as everyone else is?

TN: The PS3 tech demo was actually not the perfect forum that he wanted to have. It was just timing that we had to submit something in time for E3, for the press conference. So, again, it was not perfect forum. And the 7 remake idea was always, always in conversation, just because it's so popular. And then just because of that tech demo here in the PS3 conference, that probably based more expectations of fans, obviously. And Kitase-san already has told Nomura-san so many times that if there is a remake, that should be created by Nomura. But, again, Nomura-san has so many other projects lined up already in the future schedule, so it's almost impossible to think about that and squeeze that in. But if there is a right time, it would be interesting to create. '

Well, it's good to know that it's always on their minds. Personally, I think they showed the tech demo then told us the unbelievable just afterwards to gain lots of anticipation, but thats just me. It does seem like perfect timing considering that all of the spinoffs will breath new life into FFVII's world(not to mention gaining new fans and getting old ones interested again), but we're out of cold hard proof to know it's of existance at the moment.

It's almost guarenteed for release after PS3's life, but expecting it at launch may not be the best idea. And if it were released for PSIII, I don't think graphics would be just as nice as AC's, because although it may be using the same engine, that doesn't mean the system can handle the pressure at this time. Probably very close though.

sorry heh i get alot of news from all over i didnt mean to bother anyone just trying to help and resident evil for ds will come in 2006 for japan as far as i know more news as i get it i am feeling really un well more news as i get it.Sometimes japan will announce certain games for us over a year after it being out or at least a month.so it should be out by 2008 or 2007.

CRISIS CORE coming around : 06/01/06

feel the magic came with a new sequel news is around it will be called where do babies come from? well the rated T (teen) players will be expriencing some ds based love and more dating games coming? will from G4 there has been news for A(adult only) players wich i doubt any one here is interested the game like feel the magic involves love and simulation think of it as gta with no guns just tommy verceti alone in a room with a.... nevermind the m rated game will hit shelves but idoubt any parent will be buying this for their kids no matter what their kids say.The game will go down the drain japan has gone to low if you ask me, withyet another sim game involving rated R stuff in it japan certainly doesnt care nintendo as you know has nothing to do with it and backed off horrible right? yep u bet. Iwas on ebay earlier and spotted some early releases that ought to be outlawed the early release of the FF7 movie certainly sold fast .

Also on ebay news for those gamers who just cantwait for new colors for ds will have to pay a hefty fine of 145.00 for a pure white and any other new color involving candy pink and more but just for reference buy the price dropped blue ds systems with a castle vania dawnof sorrow game thats coming out next month for the ds.Or new games that u r intrested in right before christmas.

items that might drop price:
Urbz sims in the city for ds their hip their hop and they love to dress up and save the city from dady big bucks. my estimate by november: 20.00

Nintendo ds (yes i think the price will drop) i think it will drop to an affordable 100.00 by christmas because you know christmas obviously nintendo should drop the price more if they do it would sell more.

nintendogs down to 20? maybe you cute little puppies will lesson down to around 20? if they do that would be smart low prices for those penny quenchers and happy buyers wich mean more money for nintendo.

PSP well certainly it ought to drop to 150 but i dont think it will yes you heard right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
things you should wish for:

well games are the hottest and hippest presents and i might got a few good sugestions:

Advance wars ds
castle vania dawn of sorrow
ultimate spiderman(Game cube or ps2)
Rise of the imperfects

these might just be on my list these look like good games and good grafics.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
FF crystal chronicals coming to Ds probably by the end of next year.

BIG NEWS for Japan
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are releasing next year along with pokemon ranger!! now you know what that means.....when pokemon XD came out in japan like 2 or three months later it released it may work the same way for pokemon diamond do far 17 new pokemon has been announced but no identities or pics are revealed.

God, all old news!
DoC has been been on gamer's minds since last year. DC isn't a sequel either. It takes place in the same world, and takes place after AC, but doesn't deal with FFVII's storyline. Although Vincent is a well known FFVII character, by no means does it deal with FFVII directly, it's a spinoff.

And before anyone continues discussion about what we already know, here's what's confirmed for the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, etc.

Before Crisis- Final Fantasy VII (mobile phones)
Crisis Core- Final Fantasy VII (PSP)
Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
Final Fantasy VII (PC)
Final Fantasy VII- Advent Children (DVD)
Final Fantasy VII- Advent Children (UMD)
Dirge of Cerberus- Final Fantasy VII (PS2)

More FFVII:
Final Fantasy VII Snowboarding Minigame (mobile phones)
Final Fantasy VII PS3 Tech Demo
Final Fantasy Tactics ~Cloud is a playable character, including Limit Breaks(and a new one at that), and Aerith makes an appearance
GAH!

And this thread is extremely off-topic. Nobody is being rude to you kid, you're just posting news about random crap in this thread.

You forgot Ehrgeiz. That game had Cloud, Zack, Tifa, Yuffie, Vincent, Sephiroth, and Django (who I swear is Seto or at least some part of Red XIII's tribe).

Thanks for altering the title. My other one was waaay too misleading. What I meant for this to be was a thread asking whether you thought a remake was in the future, or if you thought Square was messin' with us.

That said, let's see.

First:

Spring 2006?! Where'd you hear that from? According to Playstation Magazine (the issue's a month or two old, mind you) it didn't have a release quarter yet.

Second:

(And everyone has been telling me this.) I KNOW the difference between a 'Tech Demo' and a 'Preview'. But ask yourself this: What was the Chrono Trigger remake originally?

Third:

At E3, Square also had no plans for a US release of the following:

Grandia III
Dragon Quest VIII
Kingdom Hearts 2 (although it was obvious that they were going to release it)

My point, a company saying they have 'no plans' for a US release of... ANYTHING... Means nothing in the Video Game Industry, especially when coming from Square. If they weren't going to remake FFVII at some point, why'd they go to the trouble of making that video in the first place, hmm?

I think that's about it for the responses, that I see... I plan on getting Dragon Warrior VIII when it comes out in November. I just got Radiata Stories and Atelier Iris (different company on the latter though), so I'll be reviewing them some time in the near future.

Dude, what the hell are you tralking about? Kingdom hearts II? If they had no plans for Kingdom Hearts 2 in the US, then why did they keep saying it was gonna come to the US for like 2 years or something? And they said that the demo was just to show the gameplay graphics on the PS3. But who knows.

No schedueled release date means that they don't have an exact date for release at the moment, not that they don't have plans to release it. Why would Square do this? Because they've got an extremely bad history of not releasing titles ontime.

Examples:
Final Fantasy VII was setback multiple times, and was cut short of it's fourth disc.
Advent Children was set for release this summer. No, last summer. Hmm, even before that.
Wasn't KH2 close to completion at the end of last year?

And we could go on. And on. And on.

Chrono Trigger Remake? That's called a re-release, or better yet, a port.

Square also did FF8's ball scene for a tech demo of PS3, but do we have a FFVIII remake? And FYI, Square hasn't remade a game from this generation, nor the last one. It's easy to see the reasons of why they should remake it, but as of now, they have no official plans, so quit rambling.

Ok, I see your point. No need to be disrespectful.

This is meant to be a fun thread where people could speculate, not one to start a debate on. And I'd like to keep it that way.
