how does this number make you feel? I'm sure you know what it means.

That's right, the classic chinese symbol of yin and yang. if you look closely, it does look like the number 69, doesn't it?

How do you feel about it? do you see it as blatant stupidity, an interesting symbol, or do you actually believe in that kind of stuff?

My friends say 69 as a "sexual thing". Some of you may know.

But 69 is just a number...

I think this may not be a topic for discussion here, some people may get offended.
It's only inappropriate if you think of it in the wrong way, or use it in the wrong way. The number 69 is just a word that used to mean stuff like wisdom, and yin and yang, but now stupid people have to slang it to mean something dirty. I still feel it means yin and yang.

Or are you meaning in a religious manner?
I know religion isn't meant to be discussed here.

Yin and yang isn't that religious...
it's just as religious as the number '13'

For those of you that don't know, yin and yang is about good and evil working together...I don't know how that's supposed to work. Does anyone know the story behind that meaning?

I always thought it meant the ballence between good and evil.

There's many ways to think 69 as, I don't see how it would be bad either.

I have no idea what it means. Whenever I hear it I think of my brother because he says it all the time.

it's yin and yang exactly however hard you try they will always be one and the same.
just like the letter I and the word I will always be the same.

It does look kind of strange and interesting to me, but I really have not clue to what it could be until I saw a cover of a magazine (can't say it's name) and this thread.

Now you said it, it does look like an yin-yang symbol. For those of you who don't know, yin is supposed to represent evil, darkness, ghosts, unluckiness and the like (it literally means "darkness"), while yang represents good, light, mortals (humans), luckiness and such (yang literally means "Sun", if I'm not wrong). The yin-yang symbol is supposed to bring good luck, bless people/places, and ward off evil sprits.

I'm starting to wonder if my country's mass transit planners subtly hidden this symbol into our metro network as a kind of blessing or something. Take a look at this map here (scroll all the way down); notice how routes 6 and 9 terminate at the same station? Both routes belong to metro lines that local soothsayers say could bring bad luck to us; supposedly, "dragons" reside in the earth here, and the construction of both metro lines (both fully underground) had disturbed them. And indeed; construction of one of the lines started in 1997 and was completed in 2003; during this period, we suffered from economic recessions, virus outbreaks, and the like. And during the construction of the other line (started in 2003, expected to be completed in 2010), one of the tunnels belonging to this line collapsed, killing four people and disrupted a major route into the downtown area.

I leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions :chinese: .

Chriz, it does look like the sign for the horoscope symbol of Cancer (which is basically a sideways 69). And the sign Pisces is represented by two fish.

Now that you mention it, it really does look like the Yin Yang symbol. I really haven't done much research on yin yang (surprisingly), but I do think the symbol looks cool XD.

I believe that good and evil are equal forces. There has to be both good and evil in the world. Good does not dominate over evil, evil does not dominate over good. It's basically two sides of the same coin.

And yeah, there's also that perverted meaning for it. (When I saw this topic, I thought that's what it was about for some reason o.O)

wow, these are cool thoughts. My Japanese teacher told me the chinese symbol for yin and yang was supposed to be about good and evil working together as one.

meh, if the yin and yang symbol is supposed to mean good luck, then all those pervy kids that write '69' on their lockers will get good luck without even realising it...

Imagine if that symbol were an entrance to another world, and stupid pervy kids who wrote '69' on their desks and lockers would all of a sudden have a big dragon pop out and eat them!!!

Til know I saw it just as a number but now

It does look like the yin-yang thing. A balance of light and dark. The thing that everybody has and which makes us all unbalance. It the crazy thing that everybody try to make sense of and followed a set definition that but it does have one at all.

It also look like the Gemini symbol in the astronomic thing too.
