I have got to admit, I feel bad about reporting threads that are over a month old that have people posting in them...

I've been thinking about something that will change PC a lot in the past few minutes...

Why not just allow them to post in the old ones and close any duplicate threads?

That would stop people from flaming newcomers to these forums.

Right now, I'm going to bed so G'night members of PC! I hope to see some comments in the morning!

=P I say that closing all old topics is a good idea. It should be done so that month old topics without any posts get automatically locked/deleted by the database. Or something like that.

New topics are fun, reviving old ones isn't.

It's a matter of freshness of opinion. PC is a dynamic place and therefore, the same topic will not have the same spin put on it a month or more ago as it will now; it's a matter of encouraging new ideas instead of adding on to the old, and therefore nothing is ever stale here.

And if some of you still consider it an arbitrary rule, at least consider the following: it really points out potentially troublesome members; if someone revives an old topic, it generally means that they haven't read the rules and it allows us to be able to keep an eye on certain people.

If the thread has been dead and no one is posting in the thread then there is a good reason why no on is posting in it.
Take my Nintendo club for an example, I started it 5 months ago and it's still going. If it didn't get any posts within a month then the topic most likely died out (no one wanted to talk about it) and no one wanted to talk about it. Same with old threads.

Someone said something about locking threads after a month's time.
It's not a good idea.
1: What about stickies? They'll get locked and a lot of stickies need to be open.
2: Would you join a forum with 44,000 locked threads? If PC had all threads over a month old locked then there will be more then 44,000 locked threads on PC. And that doesn't look that good.

Yeah, but no one knows you've reported it then... just report then post to say you've done so.

Why?

*random person reports*
*another random person comes along, sees it needs to be closed, and reports*

And so on... it's really just unnecessary. Also, only one person is supposed to post and then everyone else [but the mods+, who may need to define whether it needs to be closed or not, or close it] needs to leave it alone [to stop useless spamming - "OMGZ UR NOT SPOSED 2 DO DAT" over and over again just for post count] until it's dealt with.

What if you just move the old threads into an archive? But fix it so the stickyfied don't get taken.
