Okay, tch, here's tha deal.

I've got 60 processes runnin' on tha background. All of them, I need. They're messengers, IRC programs, firewall, antivirus, tch, an' other security software, plus another additional load of crap that I need.

Thing is, even games with low requirements move jerky. ><;;;

My memory load when tha comp ain't doin' anything is at 'bout 70%. I have 512MB DDR and a 1.7Ghz CPU. I know I'm ganna need a memory upgrade ta fix it, tch, but thing is, how much?

I wanted ta upgrade my RAM to 1GB, but I'm wondering if only 768MB will do it instead.

Btw, to all those of you who suggest scanning my comp for viruses, spyware, etc. to improve system performance. I AM CERTAIN I HAVE NO SUCH PROBLEMS, tch, so refrain from such hints please. ^^;;

I'd suggest going with 1GB, no less. If you've got such a large load going all the time, then you need all the RAM you can get.

1GB is a good number. I have 1GB and with all the stuff I have open, I'm typically using 600-700MB, more when I'm doing lots of stuff at the same time. 768 would be *wince* with that.

Benjamin Franklin

"Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty – a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of paintings or music, yet sublimely pure and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show."

My questions.
1. Is the processor AMD or Intel.
2. What speed of ram can your computer take...IE PC2100, PC2700, PC3200. Allot of my response depends on this.
3. Have you shut off all unnecessary processes running the background using MSCONFG or the programs built in control? (I.E. Winamp, Adobe, Certain Updates, Quicktime)

1. Intel. ... ... ...Celeron. <_<
2. PC3200
3. Yep. Tch. Especially quicktime. Lol, Apple had 4 processes hogging me: qttask, MSDNResponder, iTunesHelper, iPodService, aswell as other useless services.

Make sure your computer does not have the dual channel stuff requiring you to buy two sticks of RAM before you take my advice.

*REPRHASE* Ok then, see if your orginal stick is PC3200, if it is buy another PC3200 512MB stick due to the cheapness of PC3200 RAM, your going to need it with that Celeron processor. If the other stick is not PC3200, buy a whole gig of 3200 to keep it evened out.
