Pokemon:Gengar
Nickname:Gousu
Nature:Sassy
Level:89
Moves:Dream Eater, Hypnosis, Psychic, Nightmare
Gender:Male
I am puzzled because my friend tells me to switch Nighmare with Shadow ball and I am like no because my Gengar doesn't have a good attack BASE.

That strategy doesn't work, as pokemon can easily switch out, screwing your Hypnosis, and it takes too much to set up, while Gengar could be sweeping. And your friend is sadly mistaken-Shadow Ball is a physical attack, and won't to that much damage because of its low base Attack. Try this:

- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Ice Punch
- Thunderbolt

Focus Punch is powerful enough to ignore Gengar's weak attack, and the last two mvoes take advantage of its godly Special Attack. you can also try:

- Ice Punch
- Thunderbolt
- Giga Drain
- Hypnosis / Will-O-Wisp / Substitue / Destiny Bond / Explosion / Fire Punch

Taking advantage of its High Special Attack, leaving the last slot for a nice surprise. Gengar CAN be physical with a Choice Band though:

@ Choice Band
- Explosion
- Sludge Bomb
- Shadow Ball
- Brick Break / Focus Punch

It's actually pretty cool at times.

Thanks but still confused, Explosion is a physical attack and Gengar sucks with physical attacks. But Psychic is very good.

Ummm, Explosion is 250 Attack power + Choice Band = BIG BOOM.

Oh, and don't use Psychic on anything that isn't a Psychic Poke.

Actually, Explosion really has a base attack of 500. That is because Explosion “cuts” the opponent’s defense in half when it is used, and to make damage calculations easier, you simply double Explosion’s base power.

Actually Sync Hypnosis is a common option over Substitute.

I like this:
[email protected]
EVs: 252 SPD/158 SA/100 ATK
Nature: Hasty (SPD+/DEF-)
Shadow Ball
T/Bolt
I/Punch
Giga Drain/Fire Punch/Psychic

Shadow Ball can be effective, because Gengar can outspeed enemy Psychics such as Espy/Gardy and OHKO with Shadow Ball. Can match Zam's speed as well.

I made Cacturne cool as my fellow NBers already know.

Cacturne (M) @ Leftovers ** GOD
Trait: Sand Veil
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Focus Punch
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Teeter Dance

There is a special Cacturne but this thing is so much cooler. I know annoyers are bad but this Cacturne set is really awesome.

Gengar can use psychic. Its power is almost as much as tbolt, and less expected(which is good).

Hypnosis rox btw. Dream Eater and nightmare....no. Maybe Nightmare+mean look+hypnosis, but thats really streching it.

Meh. I would rather go with something far more reaching than something less expected.

What I meant was the efforts that your Hypnosis puts in for Dream Eater

Dream Eater will not work because the enemy will switch out. You should also avoid using attacks of the same type. Mean look isnt that great and probably only means you trapped that jirachi that just switched in that will own you anyway

Try a movecombo of ice punch, thunderbolt, giga drain, and the last slot either explosion\destiny bond\hypnosis. I prefer destiny bond myself.

Again, you should avoid moves of the same type. Boomerang and earthquake are almost the same thing, and thats very bad. Double edge instead of aerial ace and focus punch over earthquake\boomerang would be good. You could also run swords dance to SuperSize that attack rating

Standard Marowak is

Marowak @Thick Club
Bonemerang/Earthquake
Rock Slide
Double-Edge
Swords Dance/Focus Punch

Always use a Thick Club item when using Marowak. 500+ attack is nothing to sneer at. Make sure your trait is Rock Head, since Lightning Rod is useless in 1 vs. 1.

NEVER use Timid Nature on Marowak. Its Spd is too low for 10% to make much difference. Swords Dance is a must. Bonemerang is just as strong as Earthquake, and IIRC, it can break Subs. If I am wrong you can choose EQ instead. Go with Double-Egde to take advantage of Rock Head. If you use it in 2v2 battles, Lightning Rod Ability is always interesting. Also, go with HP Rock over Rock Slide since it is so slow, but keep RS if this is in-game and not NB.

Ideally these Pokemon should be:

Swampert @Leftovers
Nature: Brave/Relaxed/Sassy
Earthquake
Ice Beam
Curse/Surf
Rest

You could put Surf in there, but the standard Cursing Swampert does not need it.

Sceptile @Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Leaf Blade
Leech Seed/Endeavor
Substitute
Thunderpunch

Please don't teach physical moves to Sceptile.

Oh, and Curse/Leech Seed/Endeavor are all bred-on moves. Swampert doesn't always need Curse, but Sceptile will be really handicapped without Leech Seed or Endeavor.

If you don't have Curse on Swampert Protect with Leftovers is always cool. As for Sceptile, if you're too lazy to breed, you can use Substitute and PEtaya Berry.

And if you're too lazy to breed ingame..[like me], you could always slap FP on sceppy [like me]..
Leech seed and endeavor are ideal though..
