Just as a small note, Tootache, if it's only for ingame use then Hydro Pump > Taunt on Gyarados since it lets you plow through physically tough things (Skarm, Claydol etc.). Taunt isn't that essential when your opponents usually have lame all-out sets and don't even know how to switch, let alone haze or phaze you.

Yeah, I guess that's not a bad idea. I don't like the idea of special moves on Gyarados cos of his low Sp Att, but I suppose it doesn't matter as much.

Sharpedo has a nice special ability
But its Stats aren't so good,Except Atk and Speed.
Milotic is amazingly tough to get but it'll repay you with great Sp Atk, Sp Def and Speed.
Or even Huntail Or Gorrebyss for great Atk,Def and Sp Atk.
Or Corsola with Recover And Refresh Of course Corsola stats are not very good.

I agree that special attacks on Gyarados in general are sad, but with STAB + Hydro Pump's high base power + Target's low Sp.Defense the end result isn't really half bad, although the prefered nature is Naughty in that case. ^^

And Jonny, I think he already said that he'd go with Gyarados no matter what, so I fail to see the usefulness of your post. Also, Refresh is pointless on Corsola as it get the Natural Cure trait and can ditch status effects by switching out instead of Refreshing. Plus, Huntail is about as bad as water types go (Except for Luvdisc and possibly Corsola) as it has weaker Defenses and Sp.Attack than Gorebyss but lacks the movepool to be effective with physical attacks (Which its statline favours). Also, Gorebyss isn't really all that glorious on the offensive front, the only real use for it is Baton Passing with the possible addition of Hydro Pump/Surf to take care DDTar and some other taunters.

I'd go with Return/Hydro Pump/Dragon Dance/Earthquake. Alter Ego I agree with Hydro Pump, but you don't see Claydol or Skarmory much in the game. Hydro Pump is mainly if you unexpectingly run into a Ground or Rock Pokemon like Graveler or Sandslash.

Umm...Steven uses both, you know. Don't you usually run into Steven? Besides, it's super effective against Numel and Camerupt (Both Magma pokémon) and Claydol and Skarmory do feature quite frequently at the frontier. How much occurence do you need to call it 'much'?

Well, considering the fact that all the pokémon on his team with the exception of Skarmory are 3rd generation, I think it's fair to assume that it's one of the R/S/E games, and if it's Ruby or Sapphire as opposed to Emerald (Which I somehow doubt) then Hydro Pump becomes all the more useful as Steven is the league champion and that move would be the most efficient choice against half of the pokémon on his team (Claydol, Armaldo, and Skarmory).

Anyway, why are we arguing when we both suggested the same moves?
