Please READ!!! RATED PG-PG13!!! AND ALSO SO THERE IS NO MISUNDERSTANDING BEEDS IS A WORD I CREATED IT'S DIFFERENT WORD BECAUSE THE BEADS I USE IN THIS STORY ARE MYSTICAL, THEREFORE I GAVE THEM A DIFFERENT NAME
Ok this is one of my first fan fics so go easy but I still want your opinion ok??? I'm working on this I'll edit it often...
Kathleen ran down the busy streets of her little Japanese American town late for sensei's lesson as usual. She stuffed the set of beeds into her knapsack and ran down the street, her strawberry blonde hair flailing in the wind. As she came to the building where her sensei taught she pulled her arm out of her long blue robe's sleeve and turned the door knob on the small stained oak door.
Just as she stepped through the doorway her sensei spoke:
"Kathleen you are late again..." not strict or nervous his voice was low and calm as he sipped tea from a small cup.
"I'm sorry sensei I over slept this morning and the sun was blocked from my room by the curtains..."she managed a limp smile and looked at him.
"Young beed master, you must devote yourself if you wish to be some one very special, as your family line has been for centuries." he wore dark blue robes as kathleen did, and had little white wisps of hair on his old head. His brown eyes looked into Kathleen's hazel eyes.
"I know sensei, I am sorry for letting you down...I remembered my beeds today, though..."her small voice was limp and slightly upset. She was a very forgetful girl, especially for a fourteen year old.
"Good young one we will start shortly, we will wait for the notes to be drawn on the classroom's board...sit have some tea..."Kathleen dropped to a sitting cross-legged position and took a cup of tea.
"Thank you sensei..." she sipped some tea and set her knapsack beside her.
today was the day she got a new set of the magical beeds she studied. As her sensei rose to her feet and walked into the next room, she followed taking a seat next to the other students, they were not as strengthened as her but they were always there early. Kathleen glanced up at the board and saw drawn out by another student advance physical moves, that went with each set of beeds they obtained, for now there was only two, but there would eventually be more. She copied the notes down on her notebook, reading it over as she went, she knew they would be performing them later that day.
She couldn't stop thinking about how the test of the moves on the board would determine whether or not she advanced to the next level. She had only one set of beeds in her possession, even though she was a very advanced, hard working student. In the days to come she would be a very powerful warrior, until then she focused hard on her studies.
Later that day the class went outside, following their sensei. kathleen's best friend, was one of the other two in the class and was first to be tested.
"You will be tested on how you use the beeds you have, if you use them well, or if you don't use them at all and pass, you will receive the beeds of strength, to add to your beeds of humanity." he pointed toward an obstacle course, it was filled with sharp dangerous obstacles, and if you didn't have precise balance you could be greatly wounded or even killed.
"You will be first to be tested, Rose, and hold nothing back..."
Nervousness and fear in Rose's brown eyes, kathleen's best friend, which you could barely see due to her dark brown hair hanging before them, she approached the course.
She entered and found herself face to face with a spiked wall, which stood well over twice her height (which is about 5 feet). She was one of the more advanced students, out of the four, which was clear when she started up the wall. She jumped spike to spike, without getting stuck or cut once. As she reached the top of the wall she jumped down swiftly and ran to a course of spikes shooting in and out of the ground, bringing shards of broken glass up with them. She evaded them dodging every one until the end of that obstacle, when she was caught by her blue robes on a spike. Dragging her backward and pulling her towards the flying glass, exposing her legs and arms to severe cutting. She quickly thought of how she could get out and dug deep into her pockets, pulling out two objects, a bladed fan and a set of small blue beeds. She flung the beeds around her wrists and shouted into the air.
"Beeds Of Humanity!!!" the beeds power came into action, calming her down, enabling her to think more clearly as she sliced off a piece of her robes, leaving it behind her, she approached the next obstacle. It was a hall of mirrors, she stumbled to a slight walk as she stared at the mirrors trying to figure out the correct path, when suddenly she had and idea.
Each time she came to a mirror she would smash it with her foot and run forward covering her face from the broken glass with the fan, the shards pelting the fan made it uneasy to hold onto but she managed as she came to a stop at the next obstacle. It was a newly dug trench that would be very hard to jump and difficult to climb up and down. She went down on her arms and legs and did a back flip overtop of the trench landing without a flaw, walking over to her friend Kathleen.
"You have done well, Rose, you will find out my decision after the others go through their obstacles...you will each get a different one to over come..." as he said this the obstacle course molded into a new one, more suited for Jhon, a clowning boy, who took his power for granted and always got into trouble. His short, spiky black hair was held up by a blue head band, over his bright gene eyes, filled with mischief. He stood a little taller than Rose and Kathleen.
"That's for me right sensei???" said Jhon stupidly, in a low but pounding voice. He jumped into action and started for the course, full of this time, his worst fears. The first obstacle would be the toughest, being his absolute worst fears, he came to the first one, wide eyed and full of fear. He was trapped in an illusion of him failing the beed tests without one touch of natural talent.
"No it can't be real!!! I've got to break through!!!" as he tried to kick through the wall of the illusion, but it wouldn't break, he wasn't concentrated on this he was to fearful of the illusion.
"Beeds of Humanity!!!" as Jhon shouted these words, the same type of beeds Rose possessed were pulled from his pocket and he became focused on his goal, breaking through the wall that held him in the illusion. As he ran on he encountered a small knife throwing door, that was necessary to pass the course. He tried to dodge the knives as they were thrown through the thick doorway, until he was nailed to the door by a passing knife that went directly through the collar of his robes, making it hard for him to reach. He clawed insanely at the knife trying to undo it from his robes while barely avoiding flying knives. Suddenly, he was struck in the stomach by a knife, blood quickly coated a small area of his robes in blood.
"Uhh, huh er ..." he became slightly unconscious and unable to breath well, the knife had struck a vital spot in his stomach that controls how his muscles move to allow his bones to move away from his lungs as he breathes. Limp and injured he pulled the knife out of his stomach, now gushing blood with a scream. He then used the knife to the best of his abilities to carve the one pinning him out of the wood in the door frame. He fell to the ground and crawled out of the doorway, barely escaping more knives. As he crawled slowly forward, he reached the next obstacle, leaving a trail of blood behind him. His robes now tattered and filled with holes became entangled in a spinning beam of spikes, throwing him all over to the next one after that, cutting him up more, but his will to succeed was strong and he kept trying to go on. As he finally stumbled through the spinning spike beams he came to the last obstacle, a flowing river of raging water, he couldn't swim at this point and if he could he would probably drown.
"Sensei I-I can not complete the course, I need aid..."as the words left his mouth, complete consciousness left his body, he fell limp on the ground. No matter how much Kathleen disliked Jhon she couldn't bare to see a person like this, she ran across the garden,
and obstacle course, reaching Jhon and coming to immediate halt. She bent down to her knees, lifting Jhon into her small arms.
"I'm sorry sensei, I couldn't just let him lie there alone, dying, it's just not right..." she said coming to the group and lying Jhon's limp body next to his best friend, Tom.
"No, Jhon are you alright???" asked Tom breathlessly. "Sensei could I bring him to the infirmary before my turn???" Tom's long black hair that hung to his neck covering his black eyes along with half his face from view.
"Yes Tom but hurry back, it is your turn..."as Tom picked up Jhon and brought him to the infirmary, fear was in his unseen eyes, he wondered if the same thing would happen to him.
He laid Jhon down on the white bed, and set a glass of water next to his bed, leaving him there in the care of the doctors. As Tom entered the garden again, he saw the course set for him. It was even worse than Jhon's, full of the same things, not including fears but it was longer and more dangerous yet. After the things that were in Jhon's course lied an ice chamber, who could know what was inside it and what danger it could hold???
"Ok Tom it is now your turn so please try your hardest..." Sensei didn't sound confident of Tom, nor did he sound like Tom would let him down, he just had that way of speaking.
"Yes sensei, I will certainly try my very hardest, for Jhon." his eyes were glassy, you could tell he was very upset. He also clowned alot, that's why him and Jhon were best friends, they had so much in common. Kathleen watched as he entered the course and breezed through the first obstacle...it didn't really even phase him. Once he hit the second obstacle it wasn't as easy for him, it required mental and physical strenght. He fought past the knives, the whole time thinking of what happened to Jhon. He ran through as quickly as he possibly could, but he too was struck. But for Tom, the knife had hit his leg, less vital but making it just as hard to complete the course as it was for Jhon. He fell to his chest, to avoid the knves all together. In the positio he had chose he wouldn't be hit, he was saving his strength for the next obstacle, which would be hard on one leg. As he exited the second obstacle he found before him the great towers of spinning spikes, and stood there relying most on his good leg.
"Beeds of Humanity!!!" he shouted throwing the beeds on his right leg, the one that had been injured. As blood ran down his leg and sopped onto the beeds he ran forward, with the beeds helping him to think of his goal and less of the pain. He ran as fast as he could with his tattered and bleeding leg limping behind him.
"Er how am I supposed to do this???" he said jumping into the warm water as the rapids of the small river starting to sweep him downstream. He grabbed a bit of weeds on the side of the river, with deep roots holding him there just barely. He kicked his feet furiously. and beat the water fearcly with his free hand bring hm self inch by inch forward to the stable land near the course. As he swam forwad he grabbed an unstable weed and was swept under the water and caught a rock with his foot and he was trapped just inches from the water's surface, the air he needed. His Beeds Of Humanity, glowed, their bright blue color lighting up the water and hitting the surface of the water and reflecting off it, blinding Kathleen, Rose, and his Sensei.
Then as the glowing calmed the water was clear and you could see Tom at work. His thoughts of his goal and determination had activated the beeds with no verbal command.
Tom dug deep into the pockets of his robes finding only a small knife. Lodging the knifes blade under the other side of the rock and pressed down hard onto the knife, lifting it up far enough to dislodge his foot, leaving him just enough time to grab the knife, jam it back in his pocket and swim to the surface for air. But when he reached the place where the current was suposed to start he found he water was calm, it must have been flooded originally, making rapids as the flood water went down the rabids stopped. He gasped for breath and climbed out of the water, leaving his robes heavy and sopping wet. Being forced to walk due to his wet robes he went on to the Ice chamber. Just as he passed the entrace of the chamber, he heard a crashing sound, turning backwards he saw that a think layer of ice had blocked of the entrace.
" Oh great n-n-now what???" he said to himself, teeth chattering. His wet foot steps stuck to the icy floor, the water on his shoes freezing partially as he walked. Finally he reached near the exit, he could tell due to the bright beam if light coming from ahead. When he reached the end he had and unpleasent surprise, there was also a wall of ice at this exit.
The blood on his leg freezing, making him sick and weak. Standing on his bad leg he kicked at the wall as hard as possible, but it barely cracked it. He fell to his knees and pulled out the knife he had.
"Please, oh please work." muttered Tom hopelessly. His arm, with the knife in hand raised above his head and stabbed at the ice wall. The wall cracked up around the knife and trapped it within the ice. With all his force left he twisted at the knife, sending a large crack down the center of the wall. The others all stood outside the chamber, waiting for him to emerge. Hearing the cracking noise they stepped back, waiting for it to fall. Inside the chamber Tom twisted the kinfe all the way around, splitting the ice enough to break. He rose his good leg and smashed the wall, with a forceful kick, seding large chunks of ice down to the ground. Emerging from the chamber Tom came out and fell to his stomach and tried to push himself up. Try as he might he could not rise up and stand, he was too weak from the course.
