Now, this is a really old fanfiction, for Zatch Bell, that I made. Summary will be in the plotline, because I'm copying directly under my name. In the Fanfiction.Net.

A rating would probably be K+, or T. A quick review of K+ and T, as they are directly from Fanfiction.Net, will be:

K+ =

Suitable for more mature childen, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes.

T =

Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.

As my Fanfiction.Net rating goes for a T, then this shall be a T for now. Anyways, off with the blabbing, on with the show!

By the way, this is my first one-shot, period.

Be Strong

The Disclaimer: I do not own Zatch Bell/Konjiki no Gash Bell and I never will. The person who does own it is Makoto Raiku.
Plot summary: Kiyo gets attacked by a poisonous mamodo while he and Zatch are in a battle. They win the battle, but at what cost? Kiyo may soon find out while Zatch broods on the fact that Kiyo is hurt badly, blaming himself.

Mamodo spell

‘Thought’

“Speech”

It was Friday, a rainy one. The only one in the park was Zatch Bell, and he didn’t play in the park at all. He sat on the soggy wooden bench, not caring in the least that he was wet, and likely to get a cold. He was brooding over the last few weeks. His partner, Kiyo Takamine, and he had been battling many mamodos. They were hard, they were fast, and they were cunning. Zatch was amazed at how they managed to beat them all, but not without a price. For the last mamodo was a poison one, and seeing that Zatch was about to destroy his chance to become the mamodo king, he attacked Kiyo, as revenge for that fateful moment. Kiyo was hit by that attack, and the poison spread throughout his veins. Blood came through the forehead, and through other bodily functions. His body was paralyzed. But Kiyo attacked anyway, shouting a loud Bao Zakerugaat the opponent. The poison mamodo’s book burnt, but he smirked anyways. Then Kiyo collapsed.

He was in critical condition, and it was a life-and-death injury. Zatch could do nothing but blame himself. He felt that he could have saved Kiyo from his suffering, but Kiyo gently reminded him that it wasn’t his fault. However, his condition grew steadily worse with every passing day. It grew from his stiff body to not able to move his body. Kiyo’s parents, Hana Takamine and Seitaro Takamine were deeply worried. Even Zeno and Dufort took a stand, saying in a cryptic voice, “You’d best survive this pathetic ordeal, or you wouldn’t even be worth my hatred.” There were Get Well cards from Megumi, chocolate and candy from Kanchom, a personal (although it might have been better if he didn’t bother) concert from Parco Folgore, wood and rope from Ponygon (‘What is this for?’ was all Kiyo could think of while he stared at it) and several fruit with faces painted on them, from Suzy. An alien figurine sat next to the Get Well cards, from Mamoru Iwashima, and a baseball card from Hiroshi Yamanaka. But the most important thing left for Kiyo was Vulcan 300, from Zatch Bell. Kiyo knew that Zatch would never leave Vulcan 300 behind, so he smiled at the fact that Zatch cared for him and sent him Vulcan 300 to watch over him. He wondered what Zatch was doing now…

Zatch was thinking of Kiyo on the bench, and he decided to see him off before he returned home. But where was the hospital? He was almost troubled enough to go home, as he didn’t really know where the hospital was, and had to rely on Kiyo’s parents to drop him off. However, Hana, or Mrs. Takamine, went to England to check on Seitaro, and that left Zatch thoughtless… until he saw Ivy around the corner. He rushed to Ivy, but she was concentrated on the road. She was about to cross when something grabbed her. She was about to scream until she saw it was Zatch. “What do you need, Zatch?” she asked. “Where is the, er, um...” Zatch couldn’t remember the name of the hospital. “Do you mean the Mochinoki Hospital?” Ivy assumed. “Yes, yes, that one!” Zatch replied. “I’m going there anyways, so you can come with me!” Ivy said. “You’re visiting Kiyo, am I correct?” Ivy conversed while they were crossing the road. “Yes…” said a now timid Zatch. Ivy just smiled. “Just a few more streets to go, then we’re there!” Ivy told him. And she was right, for they were at the hospital. “Well, it looks like we’re there!” Ivy said. “Thank you…” Zatch whispered, almost in the thin air instead of at Ivy. “You,” Ivy replied, poking him and smiling, “are welcome.”

Kiyo’s floor was at the Upper Floor 2, at Room 37. Zatch opened the door, and Kiyo, now bedridden, could only look at the door. “It’s me, Kiyo.” A sullen Zatch said. ‘I’m sorry, Kiyo… for all that has happened to you.’ “Hey, Zatch.” The hideous parody that was once Kiyo Takamine uttered. His face was pale and sullen, and his eyes were red and baggy. “Hey, don’t worry Zatch… It’s not your fault I got hurt.” Kiyo replied, staring at Zatch, then continued on. “If anyone should be blamed, blame me. I didn’t watch out for myself. I was a stupid fool.” “But you’re not!” replied Zatch, now with a flow of emotion. “You’re not a stupid fool; you’re anything but a fool! You’re smart, nice, and friendly! You helped me make a lot of friends! You even have an IQ of… of… 190!” Kiyo was silent for a bit, and then he began to smile. “Do you remember when we met, Zatch?” Zatch was silent for a bit, and then he replied, “Yeah, I remember. I crashed through the window into your room when I rode on Owashi!” Kiyo smiled again, and then he replied with, “You were the first one to teach me about friendship. You were my first friend in a long while.” Zatch looked at Kiyo happily, but then darkened. “Are you g-go-going to d-d-die?” he sobbed. Kiyo didn’t reply. He was looking towards the ground. Finally, one word managed to escape from his lips.

“Yes.”

Zatch looked at him sadly. His face was darkened and moody. He looked around the room. Finally, his voice shaking, he asked a question.

“When are you going to die?”

Kiyo choked on the words. His face turned moody, just as Zatch’s face did. He could utter only three words.

“I don’t know.”

Kiyo was able to say more things after this. He said, “But I want you to know this. No matter if I die or live, you have to know that you still have friends. Tia, Megumi, Kafka, Ponygon, Kanchomé, and dare I say it, Parco Folgore. No matter what, you will always have friends to back you up.” Zatch turned around, his face hidden in the darkness. He asked, “But you will be gone! You were my first friend here, and you know that. What will I do? Where will I go?” Kiyo could say nothing. Zatch began sobbing. Kiyo placed a hand on Zatch’s shoulder, even though it pained him to do so. “Zatch, you have to understand that not everybody lives. Life isn’t a fair game. I bet there will be more deaths and sadness in your life. But there will be happiness in your life. You will have a great life, I promise it. And I need to tell you,” and Kiyo patted Zatch’s shoulder, albeit weakly. “I will always be with you, even when death approaches me. I will stay with you. However…” and here is when Zatch stopped crying, and clutched Kiyo’s hand, not letting go. “You have to promise me one thing, Zatch.” The lightning mamodo turned around to face the pale Kiyo. “You have to promise me, that you’ll always stay strong, no matter what happens, OK?” Zatch was silent. “Please, Zatch. Please promise me that you’ll stay strong.” Kiyo took his last breath, and grew cold and clammy. His eyes closed and opened one final time. And he smiled for one last time. Then, the Kiyo that Zatch knew went inside the void and disappeared from the face of the earth. Finally, Zatch uttered two words.

“I promise.”

AFTERMATH:

It was a Thursday, two weeks from when Kiyo died. It was a sad gathering, with black attire and garments of sorrow. Rain was washing down from the skies, as if they mourned the death of the loved Kiyomaro Takamine. The coffin was in the dirt, and a sign with a RIP stood nearby. The dirt covered some words, but it was still readable. The words were:

R. I. P.

Kiyomaro Takamine.

Loved one.

Ally.

Friend.

The normally happy Folgore was silent, and there were faint cries of despair in the air. The funeral announcer droned on. And the world seemed to be a darker place. Finally, Zatch Bell got up to speak a speech of Kiyo, as he was the one who truly changed Kiyo – for the better. Zatch Bell spoke, and his speech was, “I know everyone who came here misses Kiyo, and I can tell you that I miss him too. However, he did tell me some words that may have been rambling, but I kept it in my heart.” He paused for a moment, and watched the audience listen with heated breath. “He told me to stay strong, no matter what happens, and that he would be here always. And in a sense, he’s right. You’ll all remember him, for he was a part of your life, whether good or bad. He was a nice guy, a smart person, and a funny person, and he…” Zatch choked, for these words did not come easy to him. “He was… He was one of my greatest friends here.” The audience clapped, and Zatch got off and sat in the crowd. The day drew on. They left, to continue on with their business, and work. Zatch was the last one there. The wind whispered and danced in the sky, as the clouds moved on. It became a sunny day. And Zatch thought he heard Kiyo’s voice, or maybe just the wind…

“…Do you promise…”

Zatch, for the first time in those two weeks, smiled as the sun shone down on his head, his body, and his jovial face.

“I promise.”

And for a moment, the world was a happy place.
