The Memories of Us

Candle light dinners, romantic talks while gazing at the star-lit sky, his lips against mine…these were all memories that I cherished. I’ve have had my fair share of incompetent boyfriends but Ash was different; He loved me for me. Whenever we talked in a loud and busy area, he still made me feel like the only person in the room. He had a way of making me feel special and like I was important. Ash was someone I could never forget and I wanted it to stay like that forever…

Misty stared mindlessly at the microwave as her hot pocket cooked.

“You know that’s not good for you right?” Daisy said to her little sister. She felt kind of bad for Misty; ever since Ash went to help out some trainers a while ago she had been bored out of her mind. Misty turned around and her long red hair did as well, she had on a white tank top and a nice pair of blue jeans. She was dressed up with no where to go and no one to see.

“Whatever; so what do you want to today? Will it be another fun-filled afternoon of junk food and watching General Pokemon Center?” Misty answered sarcastically as she rolled her eyes.

“Well isn’t someone Miss Moody today? I thought that we could go shopping and then go out to eat or something.” Daisy said as she thought of more possible things to do. Misty showed a bit of enthusiasm before returning to the microwave.

“Ring…..Ring…Ring” Since Misty showed no sign of getting up, Daisy ran over to the phone and answered it.

“Hello, Daisy Williams” she answered into the receiver. Misty perked up to see who it was.

“What-wait Violet slow down, now what happened exactly?” Daisy said sounding very uneasy. Misty then turned around and walked up next to her sister. Daisy then got a panicked look on her face and a worry wrinkle in her forehead.

“Oh my gosh what channel is it on…okay thanks bye” she then hung up the phone and began to run towards the living room television set and motioned Misty to follow her.

“Well what did Violet want” Misty asked, she had a very bad feeling about this.

“It’s Ash, we have to turn on Channel 5 to see what’s going on” she said as she began flipping to the channel. Misty sat down next to her sister and her heart was beating around one hundred times a second. On TV was a news anchor standing in front of building with an ambulance there and a bunch of upset people.

“Alright, now for those of you who are just tuning in, this is Mike Adams and I’m here in front of the Pallet Town Hospital where Pokemon master turned Pokemon Doctor Ash Ketchum has just been admitted to. Earlier on today Ash was out in Pewter City trying to calm down a terribly angry Onyx. He went to put the medicine on when the pokemon used a pretty tough iron tail and hit Ash straight in the head causing him to go unconscious. Right now he is in intensive care and no statement has been given regarding his current state. Now back over to you Cindy.”

Daisy turned off the TV and then turned to her little sister who looked like she had just seen a ghost. Her face was pale and her hands were shaking in her lap. She looked like she would burst out crying at any second.

“Come on Misty, we’re going to the Hospital okay?” Daisy said in a soothing voice, Misty faintly nodded and followed Daisy to the car.

~Viridian City Hospital~

Daisy and Misty ran into the hospital and up to the front desk.

“Hello, how may I help you two young ladies?” the receptionist asked.

“Can you please tell me where Ash Ketchum’s room is, he’s my boyfriend and I’d like to see him right now.” Misty asked trying her hardest not to lose it on the poor woman.

“Oh I’m really sorry hun but visitors aren’t allowed to see him right now since he’s in critical condition. However, you’re more than welcome to stay here tonight and wait until tomorrow morning to see what the doctors have to say.” She answered. Misty’s eyes began watering and then tears began to spill out like there was no tomorrow.

“Come on Mist…lets go take a seat.” Daisy whispered, she put her arm around her sister’s shoulder and led her over to the seating area. Daisy sat down on one of the benches and Misty lay down next to her and rested her head in Daisy’s lap.
“Don’t worry sweetie I’m sure he’ll be alright. You just need to go to sleep and maybe we’ll get to see him in the morning like the receptionist said.” She said running her fingers through Misty’s hair. Misty nodded and closed her eyes.

Oh Ash please be ok, I love you so much that I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you...please I’m begging you to be ok!

~Dream/Flashback Sequence~

“Ash you surprise me more and more everyday. This is so romantic, I didn’t think you had it in ya” Misty giggled as she snuggled up to him. He had surprised her on a redo first date since their first one didn’t go over too well. This time he had brought her to the empty park field to look at the stars. He also bought her some roses and caramel filled chocolate which were her favorite.

“What are you talking about; I’ve always had it in me I was just patiently waiting for the right girl that’s all.” He laughed as well, he knew Misty was right-doing this was a bit out of character for him. He was glad she was enjoying the date though.

“It took you long enough; I’ve been in your life for like seven years now. Did you love me this whole time or what?” she asked curiously.

“Well let’s just say that our first encounter with the bike wasn’t the greatest. Although, as time went on I grew to like you and for the past couple of years I couldn’t get enough of you.”

“Aw, that’s so sweet and yes despite the bike incident I grew to like you even more and well now…I love you” she whispered at the end. Misty then glanced over at Ash who also turned to face her. They were now eye gazing instead of star gazing. Ash smiled, “I love you too Misty” he finally said. They then leaned in and began to kiss.

~End Dream/Flashback Sequence~

“Misty, Misty…Misty get up!” a voice boomed, making Misty jolt out of her peaceful sleep. She rubbed her drowsy eyes and still felt sick from yesterday. She looked up and saw Daisy standing next to a nurse carrying some papers.

“Can I see him now?” Misty asked anxiously. The nurse nodded and showed Misty the way to his room. When she finally reached the door Misty went in and shut it behind her.

Ash was sitting up in the hospital bed. He had some machines hooked up to him and there was a big bandage on the left side of his face. His face was very pale and bruised, it looked very unsettling. He then looked over at her but didn’t say anything. Misty walked over to the side of the bed.

“Hey Ash…” she said looking into his brown and lifeless eyes; it was as if all of his spirit and life had been sucked out of him.

“Hi…do I know you?” he asked puzzled. Misty was taken aback by this comment and looked at him with a concerned expression before continuing.

“Yes…yes you do know me. I’m Misty Williams, your girlfriend for the past three years!” she said kind of harsh. She didn’t know if Ash was playing a cruel joke or what. He didn’t show any sign of a light bulb going off.

“Are you sure you’re not mistaking me for someone else because I don’t believe we ever met.” He said in a mono-toned voice before groaning in pain and lying back down. Misty now knew that this wasn’t a joke and panicked she went outside where she found his doctor.

“Excuse me doctor but what is wrong with Ash and w-why can’t he remember me?” she yelled getting very upset.

“Oh yes, the nurse forgot to inform you that due to the impact of the onyx’s iron tail on his head he lost his memory. Weather it’s permanent or temperamental…we don’t know yet but it doesn’t look good.” He broke the news to her. Tears of anger, frustration and sadness slid down her face one after another.

“H-HE CAN’T, HE CAN’T FORGET ME!” She screamed. A few people turned and looked to see who was making a scene.

“Listen miss, I’m terribly sorry but all we can do now is hope that he’ll get his memory back” he sighed sympathetically as he placed his hand on her shoulder which Misty viscously shook off. She then ran out of the hospital to get away from all the pain. He…forgot all about me, all those special moments we shared…everything! Is that even possible? Oh Ash, why you of all people? Misty stopped running when she walked into a nearby restaurant. It had been a day since she had eaten and she really needed food.

The restaurant was full of people sitting in decorated booths eating and laughing. She took a seat in the waiting area when she heard someone call her name. Misty looked around and saw that it was Delia and she was sitting all by herself in a booth. She didn’t look that great herself, her hair was pulled into a bun and she had bags under eyes.

“Hi Delia how are you holding up today?” Misty asked taking a seat across from her. Delia stayed quite for a little bit before whispering “My little boy doesn’t know who I am…I raised him for twenty years and…” she began to cry before she could even finish her sentence. Misty grabbed her hand, “I know but he could get his memory back soon”. Even though she knew this wasn’t necessarily true she had to be strong for Delia.

“I sure hope so, d-do you think that if he spent more time with you that he’d r-remember anything?” she asked squeezing Misty’s hand very tight. She really needed someone to lean on.

“Maybe…well how about this, once he’s released I won’t leave his side ok Delia?” Misty said. She knew that this would be tough but she wanted her boyfriend back and for him to remember everyone who loved him so much.

“That’ll be great thank you sweetie” Delia said trying to smile but she just couldn’t bring herself to, even if she was grateful to Misty. They then ate and talked about Ash and how much they loved him, her gym duties and family before she left to go home.

The next day Misty went back to the hospital where Misty met up with Ash and his doctor out in the lobby.

“Alright Ash, this young lady who you do know very well is going to take you home to make sure you get better okay?” the doctor said pointing to misty.

“Oh, it’s you again-I guess you didn’t mistake me for someone else” he laughed. Even though Misty was glad he was happy again she found it heart wrenching to watch. She looked into his eyes and they were now bright and full of life again. Something that he told her was her doing, that she made his eyes light up like that. Now, it wasn’t because he loved her…he didn’t even know her.

“Yep and I thought I’d drive you home so you can see your family.” She suggested while smiling as she held back her sadness.

“That sounds good to me” Ash said and smiled back. He then followed Misty to the car and got in. The first ten minutes was nothing but awkward silence, Ash then turned to Misty and cleared his throat.

“So Misty, where exactly are we going? It seems like it’s been a long car ride.” Ash sighed.

Misty chuckled to herself; Ash always had a habit of complaining about long care rides. At least not all of him changed.

“We’re going to Pallet Town so you can stay with your mom: Delia Ketchum.” She said as they came up to a red light.

“Oh her, yeah I met her today-she didn’t seem too happy.” Ash said quietly as if he was ashamed of something.

“Of course she’s not happy Ash, her own son –her only family left doesn’t even know who she is! So you know what, just give her a break ok!” Misty snapped. She was in no mood to talk to Ash right now, it was to depressing.

Ash looked taken aback and Misty hit the steering wheel when she realized that it wasn’t yet a green light. She needed to drive in order to think in the car.

“What’s your problem, huh? I just asked a simple question, there’s no need to get mad or anything.” Ash said back just as rude. Luckily a green light finally came and Misty drove and then pulled over to the side of the road.

“Listen Ash this is hard on us ok, we all care so much about you and you can’t even remember our names? It’s just too much for us and you complaining isn’t helping.” She screamed and then began to cry. “I just wish that you could remember the time we shared together because then you’d know why I’m so sad.” She then looked over at Ash who looked just as upset-if not more. He too had tear streaked cheeks and he had a weary expression on his face.

“Do you think this is hard on just you…do you honestly think that? Well here’s someone to consider: ME! How do you think I feel about all this huh? Did you think I felt good when I made you and my mom cry? No, I felt like crap ok-I feel terrible that I can’t remember you guys and I’m really trying to.” Ash took a second to breathe after yelling. Misty had her elbows on the steering wheel and her head in her hands. In all the years that she had known Ash she had never seen him get this emotional before.

“I don’t get it, even though I can’t remember you I feel like I’ve known you for a long time. I do feel something between us Misty” he said. Misty looked up and smiled.

“I’m sorry sweetie; it is hard on you too. All we can do is hope you remember one day.” She whispered in a calm voice. Ash smiled through his tears and nodded.

“Well then, why don’t I get you home and tomorrow we can meet at the park.” She said pulling into the main road again.

“That sounds great” he said as they continued on their way home.

~Later on that night~

Ash sat on his bed and looked around his room at the belongings he had. He had pokemon battle posters on his wall, a television set and a computer. Not much that impressed him really until something on his dresser caught his eye. It was picture of him and Misty together.

Wow, I look so happy and so does she. How could I have forgotten a girl like her…is that even possible? He thought to himself as he lay back down on his bed and fell asleep.

~Dream Sequence~

Ash looked around and noticed that he was in mid-air and swirling around. Screams and laughter surrounded him when he realized that he was on a Ferris wheel. He then turned to the girl next to him, she looked very familiar with her shoulder length orange hair and sparkling blue-green eyes. It then hit him hard that it was Misty.

She looked over at Ash and then threw her arms around him and sighed. “This is so much fun Ash!” she laughed. Ash then felt something in the pit of stomach, though it wasn’t a good feeling. He looked at Misty when suddenly…BLURP. He threw up all over the seat and Misty’s outfit.

~End Dream Sequence~

Ash jolted up out of his not so pleasant dream. He looked over at the clock and noticed that it was twelve in the afternoon. So he got dressed and headed out to the park.

Misty was sitting on a park bench when Ash arrived; she got up and walked over to him-giving him a hug. “So did you sleep ok on your first day released from the hospital?” she asked starting conversation so that it wasn’t too awkward.

Ash began to laugh, “Yeah, though I did have a pretty bizarre dream. You and I were at the carnival on the Ferris wheel and I threw up all over your outfit and everything.” He continued laughing but stopped when he realized that Misty wasn’t joining in but instead had a rather confused look on her face.

“What’s wrong, did I offend you or something?” Ash asked getting worried.

“No you didn’t offend me it’s just that…the exact same thing happened on our first date” she whispered. Ash was completely shocked by her comment. Misty smiled a really big, glowing smile. “There is hope of getting your memory back-I just have to stick around huh?’ she laughed.

“Looks like it and hey why don’t you tell me what we used to do that way I know what to look forward to dreaming.” He laughed as well.

He and Misty began to walk around the park as she began to explain everything to him.

“Okay, it all started after the recent league you had won and I finally decided to admit my feelings to you after like seven years.”

“Wait-shouldn’t I have already known that you liked me if you had liked me for that long?” Ash asked butting into the story.

“You’d think, but honey let’s be honest here, you were oblivious to love in general let alone my feelings.” Misty laughed as she watched Ash’s expression turn into pure puzzlement.

She continued on with the story as they waked through the sunny and serene park. Something they would do for another year as Ash regained his memory.

I didn’t care what the doctor’s or anyone said. They told me it was very possible that he would never fully get his memory back but he did. Which show’s that no matter what Ash once forgot, the memories of us prevailed through in the end.

Good job writing, but one REALLY BIG problem.

An Onix is bigger than an elephant. Or about that size. Ash survived that kind of hit? AN IRON TAIL? His skull should be fractured or something more horrible than a head injury leaving a few bruises! ...And that's just being nice. He'd be D-E-A-D right now. A head collision with an already rock-hard tail made as hard as metal. That's like a bus grazing off the side of your head as it flies through the air.

Sorry to be blunt but that totally got to me. The realism just wasn't there. ONE LAST question. Where is our old friend Pikachu? Just wondering...

XD good point, I thought about making him dead but I figured that would just be too depressing. So instead, I had him lose his memory for a year XD.
(How about this, he ducked when he saw the oynx about to hit him so he didn't get hit as hard^^). Pikachu? I forgot about it XP.

Thanks for the tip and review =D.

XD You're welcome. I learned a bit from you. :) YOU FORGOT PIKACHU! SHAME ON YOU! Tsk tsk! I'm j/k about the yelling, hahahaha!

Yes, that'd be much than:

He went to put the medicine on when the pokemon used a pretty tough iron tail and hit Ash smack, straight in the head causing him to go unconscious. Right now he is in intensive care and no statement has been given regarding his current state. Now back over to you Cindy.”
First of all, these two words double a meaning that is not requiring emphasis...one or the other will do. The fact that Ash was hit this hard should be changed in the fic itself instead of just a post...XD That italicized and bolded 'in' was missing also.

One last picky-person comment! :) "...back over to you Cindy."

It should just be "back."

Allright let me get out of your hair, bye-bye!

=O I forgot the word "in"?! Wow, that just proves no matter how many times you proof read your story, something might still be wrong XD *edits* Also, ok I'll edit one of the words out so it makes more sense^^.

Thanks for all the help, it was greatly appreciated! =D
