This came up in a conversation earlier today about the best attacks in competitive battling. Such as Netbattle. So I made this thread where members can post their opinions, comment on others and such to see what do most believe is the best.

I have though of only 4 attacks for now.(in no order)

Ice Beam
Toxic
Protect
Shadow Ball

Toxic? No, too many things are immune to Toxic, too many things have Rest, Pokémon with Guts love Toxic, and there’s usually a Pokémon with Natural Cure/Aromatherapy/Heal Bell around.

Substitute however, is quite awesome since virtually everything can learn it and it's a big help with blocking Status/Mean Look/Leech Seed, gives you a free turn to attack, helps you set up, or you can just Baton Pass it around.

Well, for good NBers, Focus Punch and Substitute definitely...

Ice Beam I guess...

There are also the infamous Will-O-Wisp and TWave.

Surf is the only good HM in the world of pokemon. Quake Slide and Bolt Beam are also good combos. Calm Mind, nah.

Hidden Power is far and away the best move in competitive battling.

Okay obviously, you almost repeated exactly what he said, if you don't have anything good to add then don't just agree with him as it's just like repeating the same thing. =\

Also Clam Mind is an amazing move nub. CM Celebi can rape just about EVERY team if used properly.

Definitly the most versitle in terms of what it can hit because it can be any type of attack, but as far as best there are really no best moves in my opinion, there are however a lot of great moves but no single best that is far ahead of everything as no single move can really win a battle.

I guess it is the great versatility of Hidden Power, that other moves lack, that make it the best in my eyes.

What he means is probably the attacks that are often seen in every/most teams ^^; Besides the mentioned, I wonder why Spikes never got up there... It's the single move that makes a fair amount of Pokemon useful (why would you use Cloyster if it's not for Spikes? You tell me ;p), and it also boosts Skarmory from brutal power to godliness, lol.

Spikes deserve to be mentioned~

It's kinda disheartening to see no new spikers in D/P... Guess it's still Skarmory, Cloyster, and Forretress for the next generation as well.

The Diamond/Pearl ones

(Not to say that Hidden Power will vanish from DP, but a decrease in usage so that it's no longer a necessity on every team unlike RSE)

NetBattle is interactive batting online. www.netbattle.net is back up again and www.smogon.com are websites to download the program. Note that if you have Windox XP that administrative approval is require to download the program.

Hope that helped!

Yes, especially for CBers like Heracross and Slaking if you can predict. Otherwise I use it with Sub/Spore/Status Conditions/Other Stuff.

In general, there is no Top 10 Attacks. Many attacks work well with certain Pokemon. 'Nuff said.
