Im not sure if this would be the right area to start a thread for training your pokes with effort values, but what the hey.. they can always move it.

Effort Values.
Right now I'm basicly going to explain 1.what effort values are 2. how you can use them to your advantage, and 3.how to get these mysterious things.
K, for starters, EV means Effort Values, most of you shouldve gotten that, but what are effort values anyways, dreemxweever? Wll im glad you asked. EVs are what any pokemon has in their stats. In any stat, there are exactly four Evs in a level. To make that easier, say this: you want to level up your pidgy, but you want it to have amazing speed. Well, what you can do is find a pokemon dominant in the SPEED stat, and keep fainting those certain pokemon. As for the 4 EVs, as soon as you faint 4 pokemon i mentioned, you get 1 extra speed stat. But when you level up, the EVs reset. Making sense? Effort values are also basicly just hidden values. This also means you can't just look into your Pikachu's statistics and see how many EVs you have for your Pikachu. Making this said easier, I would advise anyone to develope a chart for all six stats and record with tallies how many Ev's your pokemon has.

Now how could you use these to your advantage? well here's another example: you want to make the perfect team with the perfect movesets and all of that good stuff. Well, say you wanted to make a team with....a beedrill, and you dont have another good defense dominant poke (which i dont recomend, but whatever floats your boat). You could train your weedle from lv 3 all the way up to a beedrill maybe lv 25, only fainting defense dominant pokes to lv up (exluding the trainers, even if they have defense dominant pokemon). Youd have a lot of defense EVs on your hands, also a lot of time. But one thing I should probably mention. Theres a limited amount of EVs you poke can have before the certain stats stop lving up. In one poke, you can gain up to 510 EVs. Now if you divy that up by 4 (4 EVs for each point in one stat) you're going to come out with about 128 extra points in one stat. Now Beedrill's base stats in defense are 40, and that may not seem like a lot. but after a load of battles and you have 128 extra EVs for defense, it starts to add up really fast. especially if your beedrill is still lv 30. This reason is exactly why Nintendo put caps on ever stat.
What this means is, for every stat, there is a set limit, just like the poke, that you cant go over. And that cap is 255 for every stat. Now class, whats 255+255? thats right johnny, 510! So what does that tell you? Mhm, you can either be extremly dull, also strategic, and buff up your poke in only two areas (255 for each) OR you can be creative and mix it up a bit between three, four, maybe all of them (i dont reccomend that either) So if that all makes sense, its about to make more sense and maybe get a little easier for every lazy bum out there (dont worry, I am too).
The Macho Brace, Vitamins and the infamous POkE-rUS. These things are basicly gifts from the pokemon god... without them we'd all be sitting battling geodudes and kakunas for weeks to get defense stats. What do these do? good question. I'll start with the macho brace. Macho Brace is what you get from that family in the house north of Muaville in R/S/E. It looks like nothing, and may seem to do nothing to all you newbies who dont know about EVs, but the fact of the matter is, Macho Brace doubles all of your gained EVs in battle. EX: My pidgy is wearing a macho brace, rattata gives out one speed EV per faint (ill get to this in a sec) i faint it: I get double the EVs rattatas give out, Henceforth i get two. This makes EV training a lot less a pain in the neck as it already is.
Next, Vitamins. Vitamins... we all know what they are. They give your little poke some extra energy in one stat. Actually, a lot extra energy. It turns out, every vitamin gives +10 points to each stat. Im talking +10 EVs. When you're EV training, thats a heckload better than battling geodudes. But sadly again, there is a cap on how many Vitamins you can use. With vitamins, each poke can only earn extra points in each stat. so.. whats 100 divided by 10? anyone? Its 10. Simple explanation, 10 vitamins per stat in a poke. Go back to my beedrill story. I already trained her/him +128 in defense, lets give him an extra 100 points in defense with some calcium. Thats about an extra 25. so right now, my beedrill is at a max of 193 in pure EV training (base stat=40+128+25) and it's max defense stat is 161, so already before using the vitamins I've maxed my beedrill out. thats another 980,000 i get to keep that i wouldve invested in vitamins.

So how do you get these EVs anyways? well, if you havnt figured it out yet, your an idiot, but ill tell you anyway. What you have to do to get a certain EV is battle a poke with its dominant stat being the stat you want to raise, and faint it. I really dont need to explain this in detail, but I'll list every single original poke from R/B/Y and what EVs they give. Remember, a poke can give up to 3 EVs, and it can give them out in more than one stat. (EX: venesaur gives one in defense and two in sp. attack.) Heres the list:

And thats it. thanks to serebii.net for the listings. you can go there and try to find the lists if you don't understand that, but mines pretty straightforward. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Oh, and a "*" next to the name means they give point(s) to more than one stat.

Serebii made a guide on this, you know. It's alot less confusing than yours, too.

serebii.net/pokedex-rs/ev.shtml

It's also alot more organized in the Pokemon EV listings, imo.

The EV points distribution might be a helpful addition, if you finish it and reorganize it for easier reading.

Since there is already an EV guide in the sticky, I'll have to close this thread. If you have anything you want to add to the guide, PM aragornbird as it says to in the sticky.
