Hello every one, I am very new to the competitive world of pokemon battling. Many people are eagerly counting down the days until pokemon pearl and diamond are released and we get many new types of pokemon. I was wondering if any one had any idea on what there competitive team was going to look like? Move sets? Seeing as I haven’t purchased a new pokemon game since ruby (and I sold that one to…) I though it would be interesting if I made an ideal team with moves and stratagems.

Hear we go…

Kingdra
-surf
-dragon pulse
-dragon dance
-protect

no idea on the stat lines, but seeing as he does have some speed and lots of hp, he could be some sort of hybrid striker, tank. Also because of his types, he is very resilient to most attackers.

Scizor
-iron head
-scissors cross
-swords dance
-iron defense

his speed and high attack makes him a deadly striker. Also his types are very resilient to most attacks, only fire deals heavy damage to this guy…

houndoom
-flamethrower
-solarbeam
-sunny day
-crunch

now when I first saw houndoom I though he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then I saw the move sets he could learn and I thought he was the greatest thing since the weal…

Rotom
-lightning bolt
-shadow ball
-thunderwave
-

he’s a new pokemon and he looks terrible. No matter, his type will be the deciding factor. He is electric ghost and has few weaknesses. Im not quite sure if this is the correct build for him, but I think its worth having a look.

Gallade
-psycho cutter
-brick break
-protect
-earthquake

Another new pokemon, the evolved form of kirlia. Specialties in direct attacks and has use of psy moves and fighting moves. Earthquake just throws a wrench into the list allowing for a surprise against different trainers.

Gradily
-confuse ray
-substitute
-ingrain
-toxic

I intended on making this one an annoyer, seeing as it has high levels of defense, the ability to damage over time, and the ability to regain strength and hinder attack.

I know that I am a complete beginner because I just learned about the competitive world of pokemon battling yesterday and was intrigued to find out more I learned about the 3 different styles of pokemon. I also relies that there is a complete lack of information though that stats of the pokemon and the items they hold, most of them are going to be holding leftovers anyways ;). Remember, this is just a theoretical list to see if it would actually work in a competitive environment and I am a beginner at this. Any constructive criticism is much appreciated.

i'm new to it as well, but there's just some things that are made of common sense.

for instance, you have kingra with dragon dance... raises attack and speed. why would you want to raise attack and you have special attacks? there are various options that you could develop with the dismissal of dragon dance and protect. ice beam is an obvious choice to consider.

scizor- iron head isn't necessary. it gets STAB, but isn't as promising as something like earthquake, which would *somewhat* resolve your fire weakness. iron defense... i don't suggest it. it's a physical sweeper, and doing exactly that should be your focus. besides, it has a good defense, and decent sp def. finally, you would have the issue of flying types and levitators that won't be taken by scizor cross -- blade test is a good option, but it's no good vs fighting types. hopefully earthquake will do the job, but aerial ace is still an option, and if you'd rather be ready to switch out vs fire types, scizor does learn feather rest.

houndoom, another good sweeper. remember, his defense isn't too good, so going the sunny day route is not suggested. also, it has a much better special attack so you may want to reconsider crunch for dark pulse. i'm not too sure about houndoom myself... there seems to be too many options.

if you want to go for a ghost type who can take hits, i'd suggest dusknoir. if you want a ghost who can do electric attacks, mismagius is a better option. although it does have a lower base def, the rest of its stats are higher, which obviously is an important factor in battle. don't forget that dusknoir has a good attack stat (base 100) and can learn thunder punch.

gallade is a physical sweeper. do you really want another? the only thing i can suggest is that you look for a replacement of protect. there's no reason for it to have protect. bulk up/swords dance would come in good use.

cradily - get rid of confuse ray. it's too bad it doesn't learn leech seed as well... it'd be so much better. besides, with ingrain, you can't switch out =/ which is why stealth rock would probably come in more handy than confuse ray. it also can learn recover, so really, you could just completely get rid of ingrain. grass rope would probably be ideal on this one, but we'll have to see. same for giga drain... that'll really help it do its job of being an annoyer.
