Threads can only be revived within a month.
A thread that has gone 30 days past (an approximate month) may not be posted in. If you wish to continue the topic, start a new thread. Exceptions can be made by the moderators of certain areas. Check the rules thread of some forums to see if they allow it, or ask a moderator if there are any threads exempt from the rule.
That's what the rules say.

I recently posted in a forum that was more than a month old. I didn't "revive" it, somebody else did, I replied to them. But it seemed interesting enough. I don't want to have to go through the trouble of going through and creating a new thread, especially since one already exists.

So my question is this...

What is the reason that we are not allowed to post in threads that are more than a month old?

Threads that are closed or are not to be posted on, are closed because for such "revives", they simply bring back repetitive spam and everyone post the same thing. Usually bringing the thread to 10+ pages of constant spam.
