Ok, so imagine a PokePark just opened up and it has 8 gyms. The bad thing is, there are no pokemon to capture. So you have to bring a team with you. Unfortunately, there are some guidelines you need to follow:

1.You can only have one team through your whole journey
&
2.You must have at least one pokemon from every generation.

So what would your team be?

Here's mine:

Meganium:
Solarbeam
Sunnyday
Frenzy Plant
Energy Ball

Charizard:

Fire Blast
Heat Wave
Fly
Earthquake

Empoleon:

Hydro Pump
Drill Peck
Surf
Flash Cannon

Gallade:

Psychic
Leaf Blade
In Fight
X-Scissor

Ampharos:

Thunderbolt
Thunder
Iron Tail
Signal Beam

Flygon:

Dragon Pulse
Flamethrower
Earthquake
Draco Meteor

I'm guessing we aren't supposed to Rate this team but come up with our own. I don't quite get the point of this so i'm just gonna tweak your pokes...

Empoleon w/Leftovers
'Torrent' : Ups (Water) when HP is low.
<Bold : +Def / -Att>
* Surf
* Ice Beam
* Grass Knot
* Yawn / * Stealth Rock / * Roar

You pick the support move. I like *Yawn but 'Whateva Man'.

Gallade w/Leftovers
'Steadfast' : Ups Spd when flinched.
<Jolly : +Spd / -Sat>
* Close Combat
* Stone Edge
* Psycho Cut
* Will-O-Wisp

He needs some Paralysis Support.

Ampharos w/Leftovers
'Static' : 30% Chance of Paralysis on contact.
<Naive : +Spd / -Sdf>
* Thunderbolt
* Signal Beam
* Focus Punch
* Substitute

SubPunching helps him cover things.

I haven't really thought about the other 3 pokes. Charizard is in bad shape because of *Stealth Rock though.

How about this...

Chariboah

Charizard w/Leftovers
'Blaze' : Ups (Fire) attacks when HP is low.
<Naive : +Spd / -Sdf>
* Flamethrower
* Dragon Pulse
* Focus Punch
* Substitute

I'm trying to think outside of the box here but it's hard to get past *Stealth Rock. He would definitely need to be accompanied with a Rapid Spinner.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I always thought Meganium was more Cleric / Staller as well.
*Aromatherapy / *Leech Seed / *Toxic / *Protect
Something like that could get annoying real quick. Especially InGame where the stupid A.I. won't switch EVA.
A cleric specifies that a Pokemon uses either the move "Heal Bell" or the move "Aromatherapy." Meganium learns neither.
Meganium doesn't have the stats to be a powerhouse. The best it can come close to is sweeping with Swords Dance/Earthquake/Body Slam, and even then, has low potential in that use.
I would shut the park down for forcing me to use a 4th generation Pokemon.
Your 4th Generation Embargo is blinding you from the fact that she finally got *Aromatherapy.
Now come to the Darkside young Skywalker.
'Levitate' : Immune to (Ground) attacks.
<Timid : +Spd / -Att>
* Shadow Ball
* Thunderbolt
* Energy Ball
* Hypnosis
<FR/LG> - (Lead Off - I'm obstaining from *Will-O-Wisp in fear on Heracross + InGame more attacks are better.)
Heracross w/Adherence Scarf
'Guts' : Raises Att x1.5 when inflicted with a status effect.
<Adament : +Att / -Sat>
* Close Combat
* Megahorn
* Stone Edge
* Pursuit
<G/S/C> - (Physical Sweeper / Secondary Lead Off - InGame i might use *Blade Test > *Pursuit since nothing switches.)
Salamence w/Adherence Specs
'Intimidate' : Lowers opponents Att 1 Stage upon entering battle.
<Modest : +Sat / -Att>
* Draco Meteor
Gliscor w/Leftovers
'Hyper Cutter' : Attack cannot be lowered.
<Impish : +Def / -Sat>
* Earthquake
* Aerial Ace
* Ice Fang
well, i really don't like to think of my favorite pokemon as just a disposable pawn to hold of the enemy, but i beat the second wave of the E4 in lg with only charizard and maganium, and i only used two max potions, and one of them was on charizard, so i dunno, my style is kinda all out attack anyways, so might as well have my fav poke be an all out attack poke!
The fact that you WERE able to defeat the Weak Five with only Charizard and Meganium only proves how weak the AI is and the bad strategies that you get from it. If you only ever plan on battling the weak AI (even with the WiFi feature of DS/DP), then continue to build your teams however you want. If you ever battle against someone who actually knows how to battle, your Meganium (with a moveset that makes it slow and EXTREMELY vulnerable) won't last very long at all.
Not all Pokes in the game are attackers, no matter how much you like them. Looking at Meganium's base stats will tell you that, while outclassed by Venusaur, it is best used as a defensive Poke that supports the other Pokes on your team.
Again, that doesn't prove how good Meganium is as an attacking Poke, that only proves how pathetic the in-game AI is. I have a Butterfree and a Raichu that defeated the SECOND wave of the W5, and both have never lost a battle too. A freaking Butterfree! That doesn't make it a good Poke though. It only fuels my hatred for the fourth generation (DP), where there continues to be a horrible disparity between in-game and competitive play. We will continue to have trainers that learn bad strategy from only battling the severely limited AI that is designed to allow little kids to beat it. The only saving grace is the WiFi feature. Sadly, a lot of trainers that get their strategy from only battling in-game and decide to battle someone else who is actually good at battling is going to get their butts handed to them in a big way.
Not to single you out, but your Meganium is a terrific example. As soon as your Meganium hits the field, a good opponent is going to switch in a Flying-type (or lesser used Fire-type), something the limited AI will not do. Your current Meganium moveset has nothing that can handle that, so you will be forced to switch out yourself. A proper Meganium moveset though, that accentuates its strengths, is going to use Toxic or Leech Seed the first turn, to poison or seed whatever your opponent is going to switch in as a counter. With Leech Seed/Toxic in place, you can now switch out your Meganium to a proper Flying-type counter or you can predict what your opponent will replace a poisoned/seeded Flying-type with and plan accordingly.
That is the HUGE difference between a battling competitively and against the AI. Against someone else, it requires intense stratagem and proper planning. Against the AI, it requires switching in a Poke that can easily destroy the opponent's Pokes that typically all share the same weakness. The former is much more fun (and requires a lot more skill) than the latter.
The bottom line though, as I stated in the beginning, is that none of this means anything if you are only going to play against the weak AI. Use whatever Poke and moveset you want and you will be successful. It really is akin to driving a Ferrari only in second gear though. You will miss out on what really makes the game fun, especially for us older peeps that aren't satisfied with the severely limited AI opponents.
