Hmmm... I'm not sure if this is in the right place.

I'm sort of confused when it comes to EVs. I understand the idea behind it and what they do, but I'm having trouble understanding EV training. From what I understand... every wild Pokemon you fight gives you EVs. So, does that mean that when I'm starting out with my level 5 basic Pokemon, leveling it up in the wild that I'm unintentionally adding to its EV count? If that is the case, does that mean that I need to avoid battles with wild Pokemon until I want to do EV-training? Or does it mean that it's just best to breed Pokemon after beating the elite four and EV train the bred offspring?

Bingo. Also take into account that getting high IV Values also matter.

Ah, thanks a bunch. I was slightly confused on that. On another note, is possible to determine IVs right upon hatching? Or, conversely, is it possible to determine the IVs of a randomly trained Pokemon without keeping track of the EVs?

The best way to effectively figure out IVs is to not give it any EVs. Give it like Exp. Share, then beef it up to about Lv. 15-20, then either use Serebii.net's IV Calculator or compare your stats with that on NetBattle. NetBattle is the more time consuming, but effective way to seeing the exact IVs.

Mmm. Thanks alot! That was a big help for me. I've got a good idea of what to do now for training purposes.

That won't work out too well because a Poke holding Exp Share will also get the EV points earned in that battle even though it didn't participate in it.

In order to calculate IVs properly, it requires Rare Candies. I would also HIGHLY suggest you use Metalkid's Pokemon Program (www.metalkid.info) instead of serebii. It is a program you download to your PC that you can use offline. It has a superior IV calculator where you can enter the stats of your Poke, feed it a RC, and then enter the stats for the next level. The program will then calculate what the IVs are for you. I rarely have to give a Poke 20 RCs in order for the program to give me accurate IVs. I basically enter stats from Lv5 to Lv10, and then maybe one more in there to narrow the range on a particular stat. Far superior than anything I have used anywhere else.

As for EV training, here are the best routes that I have found:

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
HP: Marill, Petalburg City (Surf) - 100%
Attack: Carvanha/Sharpedo, Route 118 (Super Rod) - 100%
Defense (Emerald): Torkoal/Geodude/Graveler, Magma Hideout - 100%
Defense (Ruby/Sapphire): Geodude/Graveler, Victory Road B1 (Rock Smash) - 100%
Special Attack (Emerald): Spinda/Slugma, Route 113 - 95%
Special Attack (Ruby/Sapphire): Numel, Route 112 - 75%
Special Defense (Emerald): Swablu/Lotad/Lombre, Route 114 - 90%
Special Defense (Ruby/Sapphire): Tentacool/Tentacruel, Abandoned Ship (Surf) - 100%
Speed: Golbat, Surf at Meteor Falls - 90%

FireRed/LeafGreen
HP (FireRed): Wooper, Ruin Valley (Surf) - 100%
HP (LeafGreen): Marill, Ruin Valley (Surf) - 100%
Attack (FireRed): Goldeen/Seaking/Gyarados, Berry Forest (Super Rod) - 95%
Attack (LeafGreen): Krabby/Kingler/Gyarados, Bond Bridge (Super Rod) - 100%
Defense: Tangela, Route 21 - 100%
Special Attack (FireRed): Psyduck/Golduck, Cerulean Cave B1 (Surf) - 100%
Special Attack (LeafGreen): Gastly/Haunter, Pokemon Tower 7F - 90%
Special Defense: Hoppip/Tentacool/Tentacruel, Memorial Pillar (Surf) - 100%
Speed: Diglett/Dugtrio, Diglett's Cave - 100%

If you don't want to (or can't) download/use my program, the same IV Calculator can be found online at that site, as well.

No, but v5.00 will. That is what I'm working on. The hardest part is getting the data into the darn database, tho. I've changed the structure around quite a bit and added a ton of mroe data. The problem is that I have to get both 3rd gen and 4th gen data into the same database, which isn't easy.

That's Cool.

I feel happy just knowing you are on the MoFo.

I know it must be a pain in the arse punching all those #'s in but you have my gratitude. Your program makes life a lot easier for all of us and you deserve the props you get.

<Starts Chant>

Thank You MetalKid
