I got my Diamond today, and I picked Chimchar as my starter, and it really is a good pokemon to pick. It gives an advantage to the first gym leader and too trainers. The first gym leader, which is a rock type gym, I owned em with my Chimchar, which was then a Monderno, I owned her with Mach Punch, which is a super eff. to her pokemon and owned everyone in that gym. I also own everyone with him. I already made it past (trying to get to Eterana(SP?) city through the forest and ive been owning. Just something to look at .

Umm, Roark is a guy o.0

Chimchar is a complete rip of Torchic, don't ya think? Fire/Fighting? Learns a fighting move when it evolves? Na, Turtwig is the way to go. That's who I picked.
"There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie Boy and Dim. And we sat in the Korova Milk Bar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. The Korova Milk Bar sold milk plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old Ultra-Violence."

I think Chimchar is more of a cc of Charmander if you ask me... flame on the tail ya know?
BTW, with each generation it seems the starter gym leaders are getting easier... I mean in R/B/Y, if you picked charmander then you'd have had a PAINFUL long time trying to beat Brock..

I also picked Chimchar. Then I caught a Machop and pwnt him.

I think Piplup is the way to go as well.I mean I am a Steel/Dark/Dragon/Ghost Pokemon fan and Piplup's final evolution is cool!(Note:Final Piplup evo is Empoleon Water/steel)

Skitty can get you 3 badges.

Chimchar accaully makes the game harder becuase the starters are where you pick you difficulty.

Grass: Easy
Water: Normal
Fire: Hard

You Americans are so lucky to already have D/P. We Europeans still have to wait for 2 freakin' months to get the games. ._. As for the topic: of course Chimchar is a good starter Pokémon. There's a reason for why Infernape is by far the most popular starter used in competitive battling, and also one of the most commonly used OUs; the thing's a beast!

Chimchar > Torchic any day. It has a higher base speed and only loses some attack and special attack, which Life Orb compensates for. Basically, Infernape is a better version of Blaziken so I completely disagree with you there.

Every time I hear one of those 'Zomg! If u pik tis starter u get tru game easy. =(' things I feel like banging my head against a wall. The in-game AI is completely pathetic and if you're at least decent at Pokémon it makes absolutely no difference what starter you picked. Besides, you can only get three fully evolved Fire Pokémon before obtaining the National Dex, and Infernape is probably the best Fire type in the game with excellent attack, special attack and speed and an awesome movepool to boot.

i like Chimchar, but i started with Turtwig. BUT, thanks to the GTS, i have all three (actually, i have Grotel now, not Turtwig, lol). but, i'd have to say that all three have their own advantages. and i agree with Empass: with each generation the gym leaders are getting easier. but then again, if you think about it, in Red and Blue, Brock only had a lv. 12 Geodude and lv. 14 Onyx (maybe they really aren't getting that much easier?). but if you did start with Charmander, you'd have a fun time of it going against Mysty (but if you look long enough, you can find a Pikachu in Viridian Forest).

Thank God for the informed.

Smartie-kuns is right about everything he/she wrote.

Blaziken is only a *Reversal Poke while Infernape is a Metagame Breaker.

With *Close Combat / *Flamethrower / *Grass Knot it wrecks almost all of the Wallish Types in the game.

Manaphy will still be a problem.

I feel your pain Smartie-kuns. I would be in the torture chamber right now if i couldn't play it yet i knew tons of peeps already were.

By the way ~ I'm Tons of Peeps. <Wink>

Actually, my Chimchar had evolved by the time I beat the first gym, if I remember correctly... but it wasn't Chimchar that helped me win.

Actually my Shinx took down the first gym all by itself.. I taught it Hidden Power and it wiped out the rock-type Pokemon. x3
It was nice.

But I do agree that Chimchar is a good Pokemon, I'm glad I picked it.

do you have any proof? no you dont, because thats a matter of opionion. chimchar is in fact, not a noob pokemon. it can completely own both other starters (final evos) as, fire beats grass, and fighting beats steel. itll own sceptile too, but yeah i guess aerodactyl would kill it, considering it has a super advantage against infernape.
i think chimchar is awesome, which is why i picked it. but it died at 14 and it didnt evolve until 15, so i didnt get mach punch. oh well.

All the starters can beat each other in D/P. It is a noob pokemon if you pick it as you first starter.

I was always under the impression that all of the starters are good Pokemon. I mean, obviously some are better than others, but they can all get you far in the game.

None of them are noob Pokemon.

Chimchar has the appeal of a good moveset, eventually learning both Close Combat and Flare Blitz, which should OHKO any pokemon with weaknesses to their corresponding types that doesn't have a very good Defense stat. I think that for hard-hitting moves, it's a great choice.

They are, in the sense that every novice kid will be using every starter they can get their tiny mitts on. I know plenty of kids who use Charizard, Typhlosion, and Blaziken, all in the same battle team. N00bs. >.<
