Well, I thought I'd try my hand a fic writing, I'm up to chapter three, but I'm going to post them over a period of time so there aren't long waiting periods in between chapters. Comment, constructive criticism is very welcome!

Shadows of the Crusade

Prologue:

The time is a decade after the activity of Team Rocket finally ended, as well as the disappearance of Team Magma and Aqua. Team Galactic has met it's fate as well. It is finally a time of peace in the World of Pokemon. Or so it seems...

In the vast island region of Allcu an evil lurks. An evil far greater than Team Rock, Magma, Aqua, Galactic, or even the Shadow Pokemon Syndicate Cipher. This evil is called Team Meta, and evil organization that cruely change the genetics of pokemon, trying to make them more powerful. Though even more secretive and hidden than Team Meta is a true evil, one that could turn the very balance of the world.

-------------------------------------------------------

"Sir! We have to stop the experiment, the machines can't control this kind of energy!"a voice shouted to a man behind her. The dark shadowy room is lit up brightly by a powerful light being emitted from a machine in the center of the massive room. Men in labcoats are trying to escape, as the power is making the underground structure collapse. From behind the glass screen in front of the giant light, this man stands, laughing maniacally.

"No, don't stop it! Increase the power more!"he laughed, a manic look in his bright green eyes. On his head was a blue tophat with a silver band. Waving wildly from the sheer force of his machine, were his long white locks. They all formed wild points that added to his manic look. His navy blue trenchcoat waved just a wildly as his hair. On his arms were silver bands, spaced evenly up his arms. A silver belt glistened, filled with six pokeballs. He wore black pants, and navy shoes, that formed a malevolent point at his toes. Underneath the trenchcoat was a plain black shirt. One hand held his hat in place, while the other was twisted into a wicked claw.

"It won't take any more power! It's going to explode!"the woman in the labcoat screamed at her superior.

"Just do it anyway!!"the man screamed, laughing uncontrollably at what he'd created. The woman obeyed reluctantly, moving a lever on her control panel forward. The light grew even brighter, and bolts of electricity began to spark wildly around the room. Just as the woman had warned, the light began to shake, until finally it couldn't hold itself together. The entire underground lab shook, and all of the control panels were burned up by wild sparks. The light pushed out violently in ever direction. destroying every electronic device, but no humans. The room's lighting became dim, and in the center of the large room was the wreckage of the machine. "It's...It's..."

"It's destroyed, sir..." the woman whispered faintly. Then another light began to shine from the wreckage, and powerful beams shot through openings in the rubble. A bright blue light wrapped itself around the pieces of wreckage and were lifted away, exposing a white silhouette in the center.

"It's worked!" The man laughed more malevolently than ever, his eyes insane with power.

It was somewhat good but you're missing lenght. Chapters are supposed to be longer, like between 3 or 4 pages in Microsoft Word 2003. THAT is the flaw most beginners make, lenght. If this were a book, you would have 75 chapters in a 95 page book dont you think?

Well, without further ado, let me be pleased to announce Chapter One!

Chapter One: Hey Jude

"Stay tuned, after the break we'll be sitting down with Lance the Dragon Master, to ask him about," suddenly the television host was interupted as a blue screen came over the television, displaying the words "Pokenews Live Update".

"We interupt our current programming to bring you another update on the crisis in Breeze Town,"a newsanchor announced, as the newsroom appeared on the screen. "We're going live to Breeze Town with our Field Correspondent, Sylvia." The newsroom soon disappeared and a large city was displayed behind the newswoman, Sylvia Clementine. While Breeze Town's name sounded small, it was actually very big, as well as advanced. It was built on top of a huge pillar, surrounded by a mountain range. The buildings were in odd architectural designs, and made of chrome and glass. It was extremely modernized and a popular research facility for the flying pokemon that lived in the area.

"Good Evening, I'm Sylvia Clementine reporting live on the growing crisis in Breeze Town. In the past three days many pokemon in the area have become hostile, and are evolving at an increasingly fast rate. I'm here with Professor Spruce, the Allcu Region's chief expert on pokemon to ask about the strange behavior of pokemon in Breeze Town,"the newswoman reported, standing near the edge of the beautiful, shimmering city. Next to her was a tall man, in a long white labcoat. The coat was opened all the way down to his knees, where it ended. Inside was a sky blue T-Shirt. Below a black belt, were a pair of ripped blue jeans(an odd fashion for most scientists). His auburn hair was cut short, but spiked up slightly in the front. He couldn't have been in older than 25, though while his clothes expressed fun, there was a very concerned look on his face
.

"Well, Sylvia," the professor began, "Unfortunately something like this is far out of my league. Luckily there is a meeting scheduled here in Breeze Town among the world's leading professors on pokemon. Apparently similar occurences are happening in other regions, as far as Kanto. We will alert the media as soon as we come to conclusions about these events." Professor Sprout looked as though he wanted to get out of the interview as soon as possible. Either the meeting was going to start soon, or the trouble was much worse than the News was letting on to. Suddenly a powerful gust of wind could be seen moving across the entire city, as the Professor and Sylvia braced themselves. Before any viewers knew what was going on, the live feed was stopped, and Lance reappeared in an interview with a television host.

Sitting in front of the television, very confused to what was happening, was a young man of 13 years old. His bright green eyes turned to look out the window of his house, Breeze Town could be seen just miles away. All that could be made out were tiny specks, whizzing through the air violently. Of course, this boy had more on his mind than Breeze Town. Two days from then, he would begin his pokemon journey.

Julian Harper couldn't wait to go to Professor Sprout's lab on Friday, he wanted to be a champion someday, just like Lance or Steven. He could barely contain such excitement in his body. The young teenager had near-black hair. It seemed that trainers from different region had different trademark headgear, the Allcu region's trainers wore bandanas wrapped around their heads. Julian's was blue, with a red pokeball symbol. He was about the same height as most thirteen year olds are, and of similar build. Though he never had an interest for sports, he owned an eternally growing interest for pokemon. He wasn't very dark, but too pale either. He got as much sun as he needed, playing with wild pokemon in the meadows near his hometown of Heartville.

Heartville was a small, quiet town known for the many surrounding terrains. There were mountains, grasslands, rivers, and woods making it a popular city for pokemon research. In fact, Professor Sprout himself lived there, as well as other researchers. Among all of the regions, the Allcu region was the biggest in pokemon research. It contained species from around the world, and supported every type of environment. Each town in the region usually focused on studying in different types of pokemon. For example, Breeze Town was built in the sky to study flying pokemon, while Polar City was built in the far North and studied ice pokemon.

"Hey Jude, I just got a call from Professor Sprout's lab. They say that you should come over, they didn't say why, but it sounded urgent," a sweet voice from behind Julian rang. The teen turned around to see his mother leaning into the living room. She was wearing an pastel green apron over a blue blouse, and her golden blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail. Julian always liked being called Jude, he hated his real name. "Now get some decent clothes on, and hurry on over! Don't keep them waiting!"she said with a smile. You could tell in her shiny blue eyes that she was remembering Jude as a baby.

Jude was surprised to see his new wardrobe hanging in his room. He'd have to thank his Mom later, because he couldn't help but try it on then. As the green eyed teenager posed in front of the mirror, he couldn't believe how different he looked. It seemed like he was a real trainer. Standing before Jude in the mirror was a more confident version of himself, now clad in a black trainer's uniform. The pants and sleeves each had a lime green stripe, running vertically down the sides. Stunningly the stripes matched his eyes perfectly. He left the black jacket, half zipped, revealing a green shirt with a black pokeball symbol. On the collar, cuffs, and along the zipper were more green stripes. There were plenty of cargo-style pockets on the pants giving him room to store things, though storage wouldn't be a problem with the black backpace, once again with a green pokeball symbol. He took off his bandana, since it just didn't look right on the outfit, and moved his black bangs out of his face. He slipped on a black pair of running shoes, thanful that there weren't bright green laces, and ran downstairs to thank his mom before heading to the lab.

"Oh, you found your new clothes, huh?"said his Mom, popping out from nowhere once again, "They look good on you Jude. Well since you already have them on, I guess I can give you this too, bringing her hands from behind her back. In them she held a lime green bandana, with a black stripe and pokeball symbol. "It was your fathers, before became a gym leader. He wanted you to have it when you started your journey." Jude thanked his Mom and began out the door.

--------------------------------------------------

With the new bandana wrapped around his head, Jude felt a new sense of power. He could almost feel his father's presence within it. Julian hadn't seen his father in a few years, ever since he went to become a gym leader in River City. Hopefully he'd get to see his dad again during his journey, after all he would have to go to River City to get a League Badge.

Jude could finally see the large pokemon lab on the other side of town, as he walked around the cleanly paved streets of Heartville. The bright green trees blew gently in the cool breeze, as he walked through downtown. Suddenly Julian realized something odd, as he looked around frantically. Usually this time the streets were crowded with people shopping in this area of town. There wasn't a soul around, it was like a ghost town. All of the shops had closed signs hung in the windows.

"What's going on?"the black haired teen asked himself, still looking around for a sign of life. At last he heard something. He turned toward an unlit alley hearing a strange hissing sound, followed by a strange breath, as if whatever was making the sound couldn't breathe properly. He could hear the thing slithering toward him as a strange yellow gas began to stream outward from the alley. A bit of the gas got to Jude, and he immediately coughed, trying to rid the lungs of the obviously toxic substance. Two pointed eyes glimmered from inside the alley before Jude began sprinting to the side, trying to get to the lab before the creature could get to him.

Jude heard the large creature slithering on the ground just behind him, as he sprinted as hard as he could toward Professor Sprout's pokemon lab. At last, he was almost there. Suddenly Julian flew to the ground as his foot landed on a stone, just yards away from the big door of the pokemon lab. The green clad teenager let out a cry of fear, covering his head as he turned to see the beast that was facing him.

Julian couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the beast. It was a pokemon. It took the shape of an eight foot tall cobra. Julian had seen the shape before, it looked like an Arbok but the colouration was paler. Instead of the vibrant patterns on each side of it's torso, the Arbok had a large circle and a cross below it, the colour of bones. It's lower fangs seemed too large, deforming it's mouth. On it's forehead was another bone colored x. Though all of these changes were minor to the one that made this pokemon almost unrecognizable as an Arbok. On random places on it's body were large bumps, which spewed poisonous gas. On the end of it's tail was a stange ball, consisting of more gaseous bumps. All of the spots came together to make a web of disfiguration on the body of the cobra pokemon. Once again it wheezed as poisonous gas poured out of it's mouth.

Jude knew that he wasn't going to make it as the snake prepared to strike him, with it's large fangs. He tried to get up and run, but his fear paralyzed him as the Arbok flew toward him. Jude just closed his eyes and braced himself, knewing that it would be useless. He waited a few seconds for the impact, but it didn't come, he opened his eyes to see that the Arbok was levitating a few yards above ground, a strange blue aura surrounded it. The snake tried to break free of the force holding it, but it was useless, he was trapped within the blue light, defenseless.

"Now, Xatu! Finish him off with a psybeam!"a confident voice behind Jude yelled. The teenager was shocked as he looked back and saw a man in a labcoat standing beside a green bird type pokemon in the doorway of the lab. The scientist looked similar to Professor sprout in clothing, though his pants were black and his T-shirt was red. His black hair was much longer than Sprout's tied into a ponytail in the back that reached down to his shoulders. He wore a confident look in his eyes, beyond the thin frames of his rectangular glasses. The pokemon standing beside him was just as strange. It stood on it's feet, and it's feathers had strange designs that appeared to be Native American.

Obeying the scientist, the Xatu began to glow with a powerful purple aura, brightest in the center of his wings. A strange humming sound could be heard, as if energy was building up inside the pokemon. Suddenly it's wings flipped open, releasing a powerful beam of purple shades flew toward the Arbok, sending it flying toward a building.

The man in the labcoat pulled a strange pokeball from his pocket. The ball was the same shape of a pokeball, but instead of red it had a black and gold design on the top half. He hurled it toward the knocked out Arbok and a red beam shot out of the center. The beam pulled the Arbok into the ball, sealing it inside.

"You must be Julian Harper, please come inside," the man said as if nothing of importance had just happened. He slipped the Ultra ball back into his pocket and returned the Xatu to a normal pokeball, and placed it on his belt. He stood to the side, as Jude walked through the red sliding door.

The lab had always been one of Jude's favorite places. From the outside it was a large chrome and glass dome. The glass was tinted red to make the building look like a giant pokeball. Inside, most of the walls were white, but there were many gold and chrome features, such as doors and window sills. Most of the table tops were black, and their were large machines and computers where scientists would sit to analyze data and study. The best part however was in the center of the building. The part with actual pokemon. There were several pokemon running about, being bred or trained, though it was also just as great walking through the halls of pokemon storage, where shelves of pokeballs lined the walls.

"By the way, I'm Professor Steury, I'm afraid we don't have time for introductions. As you can see there is a crisis going on. Follow me if you will, I have a gift for you, from my colleague Professor Sprout..."Jude followed the man at a fast pace, scared to the possiblities of what was going on.

Surprisingly, here there is no limit to the length of one's chapters. So you're okay...but just not too short! ^^

I'm going to applaud you for including description! Most writers tend to skimp out on taking the time to slow down and making sure that the readers know what the characters look like. But, what you have can be better!

Read over your description of Jude's clothes. Sounds like a list, doesn't it? It's also kind of...boring. Want to make it stand out a bit better? Include the description in the narration of the story. Because when you just have a list of description, it stops the story, makes the reader pause in reading, and take note of what the character is wearing when all they want to do is read the next exciting scene! So...how do we do this? I'll show you an example (I'm going to focus mainly on the jacket):

He left the black jacket, half zipped, revealing a green shirt with a black pokeball symbol.
Jude zipped the jacket up half-way. He liked how the black material of the jacket added to the style of his new outfit.
@[email protected] Not the best, but I came up with it off the top of my head. (This is why we have the editing process!)

Make sure before you post your story that you have checked it over for typos. I noticed that a lot of times in your prologue, you missed hitting the "space" bar after the closing quotation marks. A quick read-over of your chapter would have caught these mistakes.

Overall, you're well on your way! Keep writing, keep practicing. Good luck to you! ^^

Chapter Two: Crusader's March

The flourescent lighting in the pokemon lab had never seemed so eerie. There were no sounds but the sound of our footsteps and typing on keyboards. Everytime I'd look into a room I'd see men in labcoats droning around mindlessly, typing furiously on computers, or performing other scientific tests that I couldn't understand if I tried. When Professor Steury and I would pass any room that was uninhibited, he would press an automatic lock, and a big chrome door would seal the entrance.

Hundreds of questions were bouncing off the walls of my mind. I had no clue what was going on, and this guy wouldn't explain any of it to me. At last, Professor Steury came to a dead end room. He used the same automatic lock system to shut the door. I didn't know why he was locking so many rooms, but then again I didn't want another Arbok coming after me anytime soon. The ponytailed professor brought the Ultra Ball containing Arbok out of his pocket, and put it in what looked like somekind of pokeball transfer system. A bright light enveloped the ball, and it disappeared, so I assumed that's what it was.

I looked around the room to see that it was different than the other ones. All four walls in this room were lined with shelves of Ultra Balls. There must have been at least a thousand of them. Both the floor and the ceiling consisted of pale blue tiles, both tracked with bright flourescent lightbulbs. In the center of the room was a chrome table, with three normal pokeballs lined up in the center.

"As you may have figured out, there are bad things happening right now in the world of pokemon. That Arbok that attacked you confirmed my worst fears," Professor Steury said sternly, as he paced the room.

"What fears? What's going on, and why don't you just tell me already?!"Jude exclaimed, fed up with Steury.

"Very well, I'll try and describe it to you as best I can..."The Professor continued, reluctantly. "You see, around three years ago an organization began experimenting with pokemon. This organization was called Team Meta, and it tried to make pokemon stronger by changing their genetics. We didn't know much about the experiments until recently, when there experiments got out of hand. We didn't realize they even existed due to their secrecy,"Steury paused for a moment, there was a very concerned look in his eyes. He seemed almost sad. "You see they're responsible for the recent hostility of pokemon. They began with trying to make evolution occur more quickly, but it caused problems. It was very similar to the Red Gyardos Event, a few decades ago. Of course, Team Meta continued despite the problems, they tried to make pokemon more powerful. A side-effect of this was increased hostility, then experimental pokemon broke free of their labs and began breeding in the wild."There Steury paused for a few moments, a mixture of anger and sadness seeming to resonate from him.

"But...If the mutated pokemon are already breeding, then how can it be stopped?"Jude asked, confused as to what the Professor was planning to do.

"Well, we believe that the gene isn't consistent, it has to be powered by a very unique frequency coming from Team Meta's base. Unfortunately we haven't been able to locate the frequencies location, it seems to broadcast from every direction, and moves often. Also, we believe that Team Meta is looking for new pokemon to experiment on, as well as collecting the old ones. With these new pokemon they could easily take Allcu by storm."the professor continued, answering Jude's question and then some. "Unfortunately this isn't the worst of it. That Arbok that I captured was more than just an Arbok. It was our worst fear. Team Meta has fused two species of pokemon together. If they continue then we're all doomed. That Arbok was fused with a Wheezing, that's what caused it to look so different."

Jude was shocked at what Professor Steury had just told him. Why had Steury brought him here if there was so much trouble? And where was here, anyway?

"This isn't the reason I've brought you here though. You need to choose one of these pokemon so you can start your journey. If you're anything like you're father then you have potential to fight Team Meta. You need to capture and raise pokemon to help them avoid their fate at Team Meta's hand. We Professors can't travel all over the region to hunt for Team Meta, but in the Pokemon League you should be able to gather some information on Team Meta," Steury said quickly, leaving Jude breathless again. How could he, a mere thirteen year old be able to fight Team Meta. Especially with monster pokemon on the loose all over the region. "Hurry up and choose, we don't have much time. You can have either Magby, Poliwag, or Bellsprout."Still Jude didn't understand why Steury was so frantic, surely they were safe within the Pokemon Lab.

Jude shouldn't have thought that, because just as he began to reach for the center pokeball on the table he began to feel the room shake violently. The table holding the pokeballs fell to the ground as the Professor and I tried to grab onto anything possible. A shower of Ultra Balls began to rain off of the shelves.

"What's going on?!"Jude shouted to the Professor over the deafening sound of the quake. He could see the Professor's lips moving, but there was no way to hear the words over the thunderous roar of the earthquake.

Just as abruptly as it had begun, the earthquake came to a halt. It had devistated the room, and probably the entire lab. The table no longer had legs, and was in at least eight pieces. The walls were webbed with deep cracks and some of the flourescent light panels were flickering on and off. There were hundreds of Ultra Balls covering the floor, making it very much like the ball pits that children just couldn't resist. I was surprised that none of the pokemon had accidently been released. For some reason the quake felt eerie though. Why hadn't Steury and I been hurt?

My question was soon answered when the lights went out. It was pitch black, nothing could be seen at all. The only sound was the shuffling of Steury and I as we tried to gain our bearings within the ball pit. Then a purple haze began to ease it's way through the bottom of the door, creeping between balls, illuminating the room. Even though the haze gave off light, strangely all I could see were silhouettes of objects in the room.

The silence was interrupted when the sliding door was opened, letting the pool of balls flow into the corridor. The rest of the lab's lights were out too, only strange black figures could be seen standing in the doorway. The Ultraballs that were still in the room became surrounded by a blue light, and carried out, above the strangers. Single file, cloaked figures began entering the room, moving off to either side and standing patiently. Finally the last one came, but it was not in a cloak like the others. This one was wearing a cape, as his arms were still revealed. I could see that the figure was wearing a lot of silver, as it glimmered in the haze. He had long hair, that spiked downward along his back. On his head was the shape of a tophat. Suddenly he opened his eyes, and surprisingly they were visible. Though these eyes weren't normal. The shape was more malevolent, and they glowed green. Not just the iris either, the entire shape was an evil glow. The glow seemed to embrace itself in the haze, creating a strange brown color.

Suddenly I found that I wasn't able to think straight, the shapes seem to twist around and I heard strange bellows from their direction. I began to feel heavy and get dragged down by my own weight. I saw Steury beside, fighting the euphoria. If he could do it, surely I can. It was extremely hard, but I was able to bring the image of the silhouettes back into focus.

"Ah, Professor Steury...It's been such a long time,"the lead figure said. There was something strange in his voice. It was so...filled with hate. It wasn't one of those deep devil-like voices, like you hear in cartoons. This sounded more evil than that. It sounded murderous, yet so calm, so familiar..."That was a clever maneuver you pulled, capturing my Arbok. When we fused the pokemon, we didn't think of using a third pokeball to capture the fusion. We just kept trying to use the Arbok and Wheezing's original ball. We forgot that it was a whole new pokemon all together," the voice continued. I realized that this must be a member of Team Meta. He had created the Arbok that Steury fought. "Of course, in the end we were able to get it here without a ball, and it worked just as well in helping us find you, and clearing the streets of pesky civilians. I'd ask you to give it back, but by now we already have it with us."

I could tell that Professor Steury wanted to reply to the mysterious man, but he was just too horrorstruck. I knew how he felt, this guy's voice seemed to pierce right into my heart. It even made me feel colder. I knew I had to speak up, I couldn't let Team Meta have the upper hand. "Why are you here?!" I shouted at the man, immediately regretting opening my mouth. The next thing I knew I had been slammed into the wall, and was surrounded by a blue light, just like the Ultra balls that had been carried from the room.

"Let him go,"the man said, his eyes focused to one of the silhouettes on his left. The blue light faded as I dropped to the floor, breathing heavily. "I feel sympathy for this child. He reminds me of myself, when I was younger. So full of confidence, standing up for what he believes in." The statement brought me back up to my knees. Rage began to take me over, I would never be anything like this guy. "I believe that he will make a fine member of The Crusade. We'll let these two live. I want to see what the boy is capable of, and he'll need that fool Professor to get into the League."

"I'm nothing like you! I'd never join Team Meta!"I shouted at the man, angrily. Deep beneath my anger I was curious to what he was talking about. What was The Crusade, and did he mean the Pokemon League?

"You may disagree with me, but if your heart is still so locked on defeating usk, then I shall give you a chance. Register in the Allcu Pokemon League. In each of the gym badges, a special code has been encrypted. Once all eight have been obtained, they will form a map that leads to our base. There, you may try and challenge us, or if your views have changed you may join us,"the man smiled. At least it sounded like he was smiling, I couldn 't be sure.

"What's The Crusade, anyway?!"I replied across the room, confused as to what he was trying to talk me into.

"The Crusade, little one, is a revolution. We are bent on accomplishing a perfect Utopia in Allcu. Our magnificent plans, however, are refused by the foolish society. This is forcing us to thrust our perfection upon the world, eliminating our enemies along the way. You are one of our enemies, though it would be cruel to crush such a great potential member. That is why I am extending this invitation to fight us to you. You two are the only outsiders to The Crusade who know about the data within the Gym Badges. Best of luck, Julian," the voice echoed, getting softer everytime. My eyelids began to feel heavy, and I feel to the ground, unconcious.

Yes, It's a double post...but no one commented. Hopefully I'll get more feedback on this chapter. And Chapter 4 is done, and will be posted in a few days.

Chapter Three: A Fiery Beginning

"Finally, you're up," Professor Steury said smiling in relief.

I found myself inside a bed, tucked in tightly. I finally recognized the room as my own, not expecting Steury to be there. Surely it hadn't a dream if he was here. He stood with his hands behind his back, as if hiding something.

"I know you've probably had a little too much excitement, but it's time for you to begin your journey today. Those Crusaders stole all but one pokemon from the lab. I'd really like you to take it with you, you'll need it to beat The Crusade, "he smiled. I was shocked that he was actually expecting me to take on The Crusade.

"What do you mean, 'beat the crusade'?!" I exclaimed, jumping out of the bed. You know that I'm no match for them!"I shouted at the Professor, who was starting to seem more like a mad scientist.

"You heard everything I did. His trick of using the gym badges was perfect. Without causing mass panic there's no way to disrupt the Pokemon League. The only thing we can do is register you in the Pokemon League. Once you get all the badges the authouritites can deal with The Crusade," the Professor lightly smiled. He kept the stern look in his eye. He seemed so much cheerier than yesterday. "Anyway, I think it's time to meet your pokemon," Steury took a pokeball from behind his back. He pressed the button in the middle, making it increase in size. He popped it open, letting a red light zig-zag out from it. The light took a strange shape. It solidifieds and gained color.

"I'm supposed to take on The Crusade with this thing?"is all I could mutter. It seemed pretty pathetic for what Steury had planned for it. It was a peculiar pale green creature, that stood about two feet tall. On it's torso was a red diamond shape, with three horizontal lines running across the middle. On each side of the red diamond, was a smaller black one. It's limbs were tiny, like a baby's. It had no real claws, or even fingers. It's tail looked kind of like a leaf, even though all of it's skin seemed rocky. The only threatening thing about it was the 6" spike on it's head, which wasn't even that sharp looking. It had red eyes, that looked hateful. It almost seemed to be wearing black eyeshadow. The black marks on his eyes formed down his cheek like a scar. In general, it didn't look like it could take on any evil organizations. "What is it?"

"This, Jude, is a very rare pokemon all the way from Johto. It's name is Larvitar and I'm sure you'll warm up to it as your journey progresses,"he said instructively. That's not all I was worried about though, this thing looked like it hated me even more than I hated it. "He'll be your partner for your journey."

"Professor, don't you think you're rushing this a little bit. Shouldn't you get a Ranger or somebody to do this instead? Besides I just woke up from an encounter from an evil organization and now your trying to send me off on some heroic quest. It sounds like something out of a fairytale,"I argued. In my heart I hoped that I could just stay in bed, and wait until another day for my journey to start. Despite that, my brain knew that there was no convincing this Professor.

The man in the labcoat paused. He closed his eyes and took a breath, as if making a decision."Okay, I'll try to explain everything, the best that I can. You actually know more about the encounter than me, you stayed awake longer than I did,"he prepared himself for the story for a few more moments and finally the story poured out. "It turns out that Team Meta is just a tool for The Crusade. We don't know the purpose of The Crusade, but it's a huge threat to Allcu and must be stopped. However, we don't know how many members of The Crusade could be living in secret. We could be outnumbered if we tried to get a hired hand and it turned out to be a Crusader. Even then, the media would be curious and if they got involved they could only cause panic. There are too many complications to go into, but you're one of the few people we can trust with the knowledge. This is mainly because you witnessed them. I believe that we are the only two people who actually know about The Crusade, except your mother, of course. "

I sighed deeply. I knew this job was going to me, and I was scared. I wasn't going to let my fear show to Steury though. He felt like the wrong person to show my emotions to.

"Okay...I understand now. I'll go, but surely I'll need help, right?"I felt butterflies in the pit of my stomach. They weren't fluttering around like I was in love though. They were more like bees, slamming against my stomach with their stingers.

"Yes, I will accomany you to your first destination. Breeze Town. I need to find Professor Sprout and tell him about this, but he's disappeared from contact. I'm pretty sure that The Crusade is involved," the man said cooly. You could always expect that from Steury, he handled these situations so well. "Also, one of the Pokemon Gyms is there," he added. As if he needed to spark my interest in going...I don't think he realized that I wasn't so hot about the idea of going on this whole adventure, just yet. "Now, come on up out of that bed and let's get going. We have no time to waste," he said with a big grin. It scared me that he seemed to actually be looking forward to this. I was never sure of what to think about Steury, he was an odd guy. In general I thought he was pretty cool, despite my current hating him. He was just always laid back and confident.

"Come on back into your pokeball,"I urged the Larvitar, holding up the open pokeball. Once again the Larvitar turned into a red light, but this time it was sucked into the pokeball instead of pushed out. I attached the pokeball to my belt and hopped down off the bed, throwing the covers off to the side. I found myself in the same clothes I'd been in, I must have only fallen asleep for the night.

I felt strange walking through my house one last time, before my adventure started. I just hoped that I'd see it again. As we left Heartville I decided to act more like Steury than a little kid. I looked at him to make sure I would get it right. I improved my posture and lifted my chin up, wearing a confident smile. A look in my eye that said I was ready for anything. The sun was just creeping over the horizon, and the sky was hues of purple and orange. From the edge of town, Breeze Town was easily visible. It was a massive skyline on top of a large pillar surrounded by mountains.

Suddenly I realized something bad. I had no clue on how to battle at all. I'd seen it done, but I wasn't so sure I could do it on my own. The thing that made me remember that was the black dots continuously zipping all around Breezetown. I'm sure they'd look much bigger close up, and I could only wonder what they were. That train of thought was interrupted by a harsh sound near us. The sound of searing flames, burning through a landscape, Steury and I both turned our heads in synchonization. Just yards away from us, near one of the mountainous walls was a giant flame, rising off of some bushes and trees.

"What just happened?! Those definetely weren't on fire a second ago," I turned to Steury, who was just as shocked as I was. Then we heard it, a fierce growling from behind the flames. Whatever had started the fire was just behind it, and it obviously wanted to barbecque us, too. The growling, turned into a harsh howl as a pokemon jumped from the flames.

The creature was shaped like a dog, with bright orange fur. It had a thick, furry tail and mane colored beige, as well as a tuft of hair on it's head. On it's legs and back were strange black markings, and stripes. It was in a position to pounce on us, still growling between it's sharp canines, it's claws potruding from it's feet. Though, something about it made Steury and I tense up a lot less. It was only about two feet tall.

I started being scared again, when a small fire ball was propelled from it's jaws. Steury and I jumped to either side just in time to avoid the flame, which was now occupying the spot where we stood just moments ago. I began to back away quickly, but the Professor grabbed my wrist and stopped me.

"Never run from a pokemon, Jude! This is a great opportunity for you to learn how to battle, so go ahead and bring out Larvitar!"the professor said to me over the yapping dog pokemon.

"Fine, I'll battle this thing! Go Larvitar!"I said as I through my pokeball to the ground, it opened up and and Larvitar formed from a beam of red light. The opposing pokemon knew what was happening, and directed it's growling toward Larvitar. It shot another fire ball from it's mouth, that was aimed directly at Larvitar. "Larvitar, dodge the fireball!"I shouted to the pokemon, who surprisingly obeyed me. "Professor, what am I supposed to do, now?!"

"Tell Larvitar to use tackle,"he said very calmly, on his face was a grin. At least he was enjoying this.

"Larvitar, use tackle!"I shouted, the small green pokemon obeyed, and ran toward the dog pokemon. I thought that the attack would hit directly, but at the last moment the foe opened it's mouth and shot a fireball at Larvitar. I turned away, knowing the battle was over. Then I was really surprised, I heard a yelp of pain from the dog. Larvitar didn't have a single burn on him, and the dog pokemon was whining, while rubbing it's wound with it's head. "What just happened, Steury?"I asked in confusion.

"That's Professor Steury to you, Jude. I guess I forgot to tell you, Larvitar is a rock and ground type pokemon, making it very resistant to fire attacks like Growlithe's. Now that you've hurt it, I'd suggest using this,"Steury said pulling a pokeball out of his pocket, and holding it out for me to take.

"Um...what's a Growlithe?"I asked, not concerned with the battle now that the dog pokemon wasn't attacking anymore. I took the pokeball from Steury's hand, knowing what to do with it. I pressed the pokeball's button, enlarging it. I hurled it at the fire pokemon, The ball opened up, and pulled in the pokemon as a beam of red light.

"A Growlithe is the pokemon you've just caught Jude,"Steury said, looking down on me as if he was proud.

I wore a smile on my face as I walked over and picked up Growlithe's pokeball. "Good job, Larvitar!" I said to the little green pokemon looking up at me intently. I was starting to warm up to him. Finally, we could relax with something else to think about than The Crusade. I finally found myself happy for the first time since The Crusade broke into the Pokemon Lab.

"Hey Jude, I have something for you. You've proved yourself as a trainer now, so you should have this,"the Professor said, pulling a rectangular device out of his pocket. It was colored lime green, with black buttons. It had a silver pokeball symbol at the bottom, with a green button in the middle. "This is a pokedex, a complex encyclopedia of the pokemon you'll encounter on your journey. It should be very helpful in your quest." I took it from his hand, and saw that it fit a spot on the left side of my belt. He also pulled four pokeballs out of his pocket and gave them to me. "It's very easy to use, you'll be able to use it without my help."

As we looked over to the mountain trail ahead of us we could see Breeze Town easily. It was just a mile away now. A silver pole was visible, rising up above the lower mountain tops. There were other long poles supporting the structure, that were stuck into the mountains themselves. On the support poles there were large discs, that held nests for flying pokemon. Though, that wasn't the most impressive part. Rising up above even the giant pillar, was a huge steel cylinder several times wider in diamter than the pole it stood on. From our angle, only a few of the strange metallic buildings of Breeze Town could be seen.

I smiled. The sight of Breeze Town was like a dawn of hope, the beginning of my heroic quest. Though it was a happy sight, there was still an eerieness about the situation. The giant winged silhouettes still darted above Breezetown, lit up by the setting sun. The sky was a rainbow of violets, yellows, and oranges. The perfect beginning for the adventure that would soon unfold. Then it was ruined.

"CAAAAWWWWW!!!!"a voice screeched from the sky.

Before I begin this chapter I'd like to apologize, I've just noticed that I was kind of stupid in writing this because it changes perspective midchapter...I'm planning on remaking the chapters at some point in time, so I'll fix it then. Until I begin rewriting, beyond this chapter I will be writing in third person. This chapter has a lot of switching though, so I'm sorry.

Chapter 4: Battle in the Sky

Both mine and Steury's heads shot straight up toward the sound. Above us flew a giant bird pokemon. If it would have been standing up straight I'd guess it would be at least eight feet tall, with a wing span of enormous proportions. It's feathers were a beige color, and it's back and the reverse side of the wings was brown. On it's head was a magnificent crest that seemed to flow right down it's back, it was a golden yellow in the middle, and a crimson on each side. The crimson was also shown on it's fan of tail feathers. From it's eyes black streaks shot down it's cheeks. In the middle of it's face was a large beak, that quite frankly I didn't want to get anywhere near. From two stubby legs came clawed feet, not covered in feathers, but in pink flesh. It let out another loud cawing sound, and that's when the Professor and I realized it was heading straight for us.
There was no way we could get out of it's way in time, even if we weren't frozen with fear. The air flowing around it's body actually began to glow a fine white as it increased speed even more, seemingly taking the shape of an arrow. Suddenly it came to a halt, Bringing it's mighty wings upward, and bringing it's nosedive into a hover, about one hundred meters above us. Unfortunately the Professor and I were still in extreme danger, the immediate stop caused the wind to go crazy pulling both of us up toward the ferocious bird above us.

With another violent "Caw" it snatched us out of the air with it's massive claws, completely immobilizing us. I struggled to reach for a pokeball, but it was useless the bird's grip was far too tight. It brought it's feet together, as well as the Professor and I, and with a mighty flap of it's wings we were flying straight upward toward Breeze Town. Both of us were gritting our teeth from pain as we writhed around the pokemon's claws, trying to escape. Though it's actually a good thing it was holding on tight, because personally I didn't want to fall from this high up. The air stream flowing around the pokemon began to glow, and the landscape became a blur to our eyes. We had to be going at least three hundred miles an hour, if not more.

Suddenly I realized something I hadn't noticed. There was someone atop of the bird, riding it. The figure was mysterious, wearing a cloak. Under it I thought that I could see some chainmail and plated armor, like medieval knights wear. It looked familiar somehow, but I couldn't place it. Mere seconds later, the claws clenched even tighter, forcing me to close my eyes in the terrible pain. At the extreme altitude I became short of breath, and finally I slowly slipped out of conciousness.

------------------------------------------------------

I woke up in a daze, confused at where I was. The room was made out of concrete, except for a wall of bars, and a small identical window. Obviously I was in a jail cell. My pokeballs were gone. Around me sat several other figures, their faces grim and hopeless. In one corner I could see Steury whispering to another cell mate. Someone I didn't recognize, his hair had been filled with gel at one point but was now raggedy and dirty. His face was in dire need of a shave. He was wearing a labcoat that matched Steury's.

"Where am I?"I asked, still confused, when a fearful look shot across the face of the others, who "shh'd" me quickly. I could hear footsteps coming from down the hall, and everyone in the cell seemed frantic. They looked as if they were in fear for their lives. The man behind the steps finally revealed himself into view of the cell. It was the same person who had been flying on the giant bird.

The man was very tall, almost seven feet. He was wearing a slate grey hooded cape. I finally realized that the figure had been one of the men who'd accompanied the commander of the Crusaders. Within the face of the cape was complete darkness. Around the neck of the cape was a golden necklace, on the end encased on the gold was a metallic maroon symbol. The symbol was in the shape of an elaborate medieval sword. His torso was clad in silver and black plate armor, all in intricate designs. His upper arms were wrapped in silver chains, while his forearms were contained by strange black armor. It didn't look medieval, it was some piece of technology, and held strange red and blue buttons. His hands were in silver gloves. His legs were clothed the same way as his arms, only the armor on his legs looked like normal armor. He faced the toward the prisoners, some who squealed with fear, and others who were frozen by it.

"Why have you imprisoned Mr. Harper, Sirrus?"an all too familar voice said, addressing the armor clad man. "He is our guest, so release him and his scientist friends as well,"the man continued. It was the voice of the Crusader who'd broken into Sprout's lab. Suddenly Julian remember that he did know the scientist that Steury was talking to, it was none other than Professor Sprout.

"My apologies sir, I couldn't recognize him from the skies, I though that he may be trouble so I brought him here. He's only been here for a few hours, so I haven't done any damage to him," the tall man apologized, bowing toward the other end of the hall. Obviously the man I'd seen in Sprout's lab didn't want to be seen. Sirrus, as the Crusader had called him used a key to unlock the cell bars, and swung them open with ease. Several men in cloaks came from either side of the cell doors and filed in the the cell. Though the door was wide open no prisoner dared to make a move. The cloaked men violently grabbed Sprout, Steury, and I and dragged us out of the room.

I tried to fight against the several men, but their grips were too strong to break. As I past Sirrus I could feel cold eyes staring at me from the darkness of his hood. Somehow the man who'd infiltrated Sprout's lab was gone.

"Get off of me! What's going on?!"I shouted in desperation, but my yells were soon muffled out when one of the cloaked me covered my mouth with their hand. They pulled me to a strange elevator at the end of the hallway, it looked strange in it's surroundings. The entire hall was made of concrete and lit by light from the Cell windows. The elevator looked very modernized, it was a large cylinder, tinted red. The was a black line running down the center, dividing the sides of the door. We were pushed into the elevator as the door slid open, it closed immediately not giving us any time to get away from whatever this elevator was taking us to. The back wall of the round elevator was purely white. There was a strange silver panel on the wall, where the buttons should have been. Suddenly it began ascending. Through the glass walls I could see us rising through the sky itself. It was if the professors and I were flying among the clouds. As we went up I saw Cloud City below us, growing smaller and smaller. Suddenly everything became black as the elevator came to a sudden stop.

The door in front of us slid open, revealing a metallic staircase, with light shining down from the top.

"Long time no see, Jude," Professor Sprout said. He had a habit of saying things at the wrong time.

"This is no time for greetings, Professor..."Steury said. I wasn't sure if they got along well or not. "We have no other choices, so it's up the stairs we go. Just be careful."

"Well then, here goes nothing..."I said with a nervous voice. I was almost shaking as I walked up the stairs, each one clanking loudly. I could hear the two professors walking behind me as well. I looked upward toward the top of the staircase and could see the sky, through the small opening. Finally the final step was taken out of the staircase and I instantly became terrified. We were on a giant steel platform, miles above the ground. Around the perimeter of the platform were giant machines, which I guessed were making the platform stay in the air. The platform had the white lines painted on it, making it a standard battling field. There were spots for two trainers to stand, and in the middle a giant pokeball symbol. I was already standing on one of the trainer's spots, and on the other I could see another hole, most likely another elevator staircase. Once Sprout and Steury had gotten out of the staircase, the floor instantly sealed up, via sliding door. At one side of the field there was a tower, where a Pokemon League referee was standing.

"Welcome to the Breeze Town Gym, Jude," said Steury, standing behind me. "You're not ready for this gym battle yet, so use this." I looked back and Steury was holding a pokeball out to me. I accepted it reluctantly, wanting to use my own pokemon. Though I highly doubted that the gym leader was playing fair either. "Good Luck," he said, as he and Sprout began to walk away.

Finally the gym leader showed himself. A shadowy figure began to rise from the stairs opposite me. A mist like in Sprout's lab began to flow from the staircase, but this time it was light blue.

"I've been waiting to battle you, Julian Harper. The boss says that you're supposed to be strong!" said the figure. His voice was energetic and high pitched. If it were any other circumstance it would have been annoying. Finally the man was entirely out of the staircase, and I could see him clearly. His clothing was Sirrus's but I couldn't be sure if it was him as he wasn't wearing his hood. His hair was crazy looking. It was blonde, but it was done in a...unique way. On each side of his head, his hair was spiked up, like bird wings. All of the hair in the front was brought into one large, beak-like bang. He had a sideways grin on his face, and a fierce look in his eyes. On his left ear he wore a strange earring. It was attached to a silver chain hanging down an inch down from his ear, and it shaped like a wing. The edges were silver, and the center was sky blue. "My name is Sirrus! The new and improved Breeze Town Gym Leader, and proud member of The Crusade! You may know me as your captor, I hope you enjoyed your ride up!" he laughed way too much. And not a normal laugh either, it was a high-pitched hyena laugh. It didn't matter what situation this was, this guy was annoying no matter what. "Now what do you say we have a little fun!"

"The rules we be standard! Each Competitor will use three pokemon, with no substitutions. First competitor with two victories will win the match!" the referee yelled out from his tower. Steury and Sprout stood off to the side of the platform, almost at the edge. Luckily there was a guard rail around the entire field. Though, I was absolutely sure that both Larvitar and Growlith could easily fit through.

"Get ready kid!" Sirrus shouted, placing one of his pokeballs into a slot in the strange armor on his right arm. "Go Skarmory!"he shouted, pressing a button on the machine. A red light beam was shot out of the machine, toward the middle of the field, taking the shape of a large bird. It looked vicious, and was completely coated in metal. It had piercing yellow eyes, and razor sharp claws. I was instantly struck with fear, there was no way I could beat this giant bird. Then suddenly I remembered something from a long time ago, when I was playing at Sprout's lab. I remembered he had a Cyndaquil and an Aron playing together one day, and suddenly Sprout rushed over and picked up the Aron. He said something...

"Woah, Aron. You need to be more careful around Cyndaquil, steel types like you can get hurt by fire types," he said, warning the Aron of Cydaquil's fire attacks.

"Go, Growlithe!"I shouted, hoping that Growlithe's fire had as much advantage as I thought. I picked out his pokeball and threw it against the ground, releasing Growlithe onto the platform.

"Lucky guess, kid. But still, look at that tiny little Growlithe, there's no way it can fight my Skarmory!!" he let out another hyena laugh, and signaled the ref to start the match.

"Battle Start!"the ref shouted, and instantly Skarmory became poised for battle. It jumped back a few feet, and examined it's foe. Suddenly it loosened up, and started chuckling it's name. Shockingly Growlithe showed no fear toward it's frightening opponent. It just stayed down, ready to pounce, growling at it's foe. Skarmory began to slowly walk over to the little dog pokemon, who continued to growl. It brought back one of it's large clawed feet, ready to kick Growlithe right off the platform.

"Growlithe, dodge it!" I shouted, imitating the professional battlers I'd seen on TV. I had no idea what to do.

"Jude, use your pokedex!" Steury's voice shouted from behind me. I remembered the green device he'd given me after I caught Growlithe. I still didn't know how to use it, though. I pulled it out and flipped it open, and aimed it toward the battle. Suddenly the screen lit up, showing a picture of my Growlithe. There was a lot of information displayed on the screen. Lv. 12, Stats: HP: 30, ATK: 13, DEF: 14, SPATK: 20, SPDEF:16, SPD: 21, MOVES: Growl, Tackle, Ember, Bite. and some more. I suddenly realized what Steury was telling me to do, now I knew what moves the Growlithe knew and could tell him what to do. It would obviously take more than just the moves though...I'd have to think on my feet.

"Growlithe, Pounce!" I knew it wasn't an actual move, but it worked well. Growlithe had moved out of the way of Skarmory's foot as I was taking out my pokedex. Skarmory was trying again, getting furiated with the little dog pokemon. Suddenly Growlithe jumped onto Skarmory's giant claw, and hung on, still barking at the bird. "Now use Ember!" Growlithe obeyed me again, shooting a small fireball out of it's mouth at Skarmory's leg. The bird pokemon screeched in pain, trying to shake Growlithe off of it's leg. Growlithe hung on tight, continuing to shoot off more fireballs. The Skarmory's steel body was getting covered with burn marks. Growlithe jumped back off of the claw now that Skarmory was in too much pain to fight back. "Use one more ember, Growlithe! " Another blast of fire was propelled from Growlithe's mouth, hitting Skarmory right in the face, the attack unbalanced Skarmory enough to knock it down. With a loud clang it shook the stadium as it hit the floor.

"You'll pay for that, kid! Now I'm just going to have to take this fight seriously!" yelled Sirrus, "Now Skarmory, get up and use whirlwind!" The Skarmory sucked up the pain from it's burns, and climbed back up from the floor. It flapped it's large crimson wings, creating a powerful wind. Growlithe was knocked right off of it's feet, and sucked up into the air. Skarmor jumped up, and began flying through the air ready to attack Growlithe. It darted through the air, toward the tiny orange dog, but suddenly Growlithe acted on it's own and shot out another ember at the last second. Skarmory was caught off guard, and the ember hit it in the chest, causing it to spin backward. The tiny dog latched itself onto Skarmory's chest with it's claws. Skarmory began to spiral toward's the ground, trying to peck at Growlithe, but it could reach down to it's chest with it's beak. Suddenly Growlithe let go of Skarmory, landing safely on the ground, a confused Skarmory crashed hard into the stadium, actually denting the field.

"Skarmory is unable to battle! Growlithe wins the battle!" the referee shouted, I couldn't believe that I'd actually won my first battle. Though it wasn't over yet, I still had to win another fight, or else I'd lose. And I didn't even want to think about what The Crusade might do if I lost.

"Beginner's luck!"Sirrus shouted, as we both brought back our pokemon. He took Skarmory's pokeball out of the device on his arm, and replaced it with another pokeball. "Go Gligar!" Another red beam fired from the device on his arm, releasing a purple scorpion pokemon. It was odd though, because it had wings that let if fly. The only scorpion pokemon Jude had seen had been on the ground.

Jude aimed his pokedex toward the Gligar, apparently it was a rock and flying type. Jude had no idea what to use against it, Larvitar probably wouldn't be able to fight it well, but he had no idea what was in the pokeball Steury had given him.

"Better save Steury's for last..."Jude said under his breath, reaching for Larvitar's pokeball. "Go, Larvitar!"Jude shouted, sending out his own rock type. Larvitar looked rather confused as to what was going on. Jude remembered that this was his first battle too, but Growlithe obviously got into a lot of fights in the wild. "Larvitar, this is your first real battle, but I know you can do this! We just need to try to beat Gligar, ok?" Larvitar turned around to Jude and nodded. It looked back at Gligar, ready for a fight.

"Battle start!" the ref yelled. Larvitar was confused by the voice, looking around for where it came from. He turned around too quickly, and fell over. Larvitar didn't have a chance against Gligar. It sped through the air, and whipped Larvitar hard with it's tail sending it toppling toward the edge of the stadium.

"Larvitar!"Jude shouted, diving toward Larvitar. Luckily he caught Larvitar before he rolled off of the edge. The poor pokemon was crying from the attack that Gligar had used on it.

"Larvitar is disqualified! Gym Leader Sirrus's Gligar has won the battle in a record breaking three seconds!"the referee shouted to Jude's disbelief. Jude stared blankly for a few seconds before realizing that in an official battle a trainer wasn't allowed to aid his pokemon...which he'd done.

"Come on back, Larvitar...You did your best," Jude said, bringing Larvitar back to his pokeball.

"That was pathetic!"Sirrus shouted, laughing insanely. "Ha, ha! I've never seen something so puny!" he continued, bringing back his Gligar. Jude had had enough of Sirrus.

"Shut up and bring out your last pokemon!" Jude shouted, torn with anger. He obviously didn't like Larvitar being insulted, especially by someone like Sirrus.

"Very well, if that is what you wish,"Sirrus said, immediately stopping his laughter. I suddenly realized what I was probably up against. He still hadn't used the giant pokemon that had captured Steury and I. "Go, Pidgeot!"he shouted, as I clutched Steury's pokeball.
