When I get far enough into Pearl I am going to raise a Bastiodon. I have planned it like this:

Sassy nature
Iron Defence, Metal Burst, Toxic, Protect
EVs: 252 SDef, 228 HP, 30 Def

The reason for this distribution is that with Iron Defence, I won't need such a high Defense, and I can put more EVs into HP to maximise the usefulness of Metal Burst. And since I also plan to have a Wish-Passer on my team I think this set will prove to be formidable.

But what do you think? Rate or improve it, and post your own Bastiodon sets here.

Okay, first off; could you please put your sets in standard Netbattle format? It's just really tedious to sort out all these random presentations. -.- Second, no HP-recovery move on a walling pokémon like Bastiodon is just doomed to failure. Ditch Protect; that one-turn stall is serving no proper purpose. Also, Metal Burst is seriously pointless since the damage depends on the amount of damage you take and Bastiodon should aim at not taking damage because of its weak HP. Finally, Iron Defense doesn't warrant neglecting defense EVs; Bastiodon has a double weakness against two staple physical attack types: Fighting and Ground, and you'll need all the defense you can to stave it off. Bastiodon looks like so:

Bastiodon @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Stealth Rock
Toxic/Roar
Iron Defense
Rest

Stealth Rock is just about the only reason to use this thing, as it fails miserably as a wall due to the typing problem. :\

even so, i don't think you need me to tell you that the physical/special distinction makes it even worse for this guy. physical moves are indeed more popular, but what's going to stop something like a alakazam from using focus blast or something else earth power?

Nothing at all, but the fact of the matter is that there's really not much Bastiodon can do against special sweepers, anyway. Because of those weaknesses it has to focus on one type of defense and go all out on it in order to be useful at all, and since Bastiodon has access to Iron Defense but not Amnesia as well as 30 more Defense than Special Defense in its statline physical is the obvious choice of the two and trying to pull in both directions defense-wise just results in a pokémon that can't handle either. :\ Also, just because all attack types come in both physical and special these days doesn't mean they're equally common; Earthquake and Close Combat are far more likely threats than Earth Power and Focus Blast.
