The database server probably shut down while you were submitting your post, so it just completed the task halfway.
You post was added to the thread, but not to the "last post" part of the database.

Not much you can do about it, unless you delete your post and post it again.

Ahh, that's quite likely. I remember seeing a lot of "Database error" pages at that time.

So... I guess we're done here, then?

I experienced the very same thing. I made a post in the Shiny Hunters, which apparently took. No error pages; nothing. It shows me as the last poster in MCG and in my thread subscriptions, but my post is nowhere to be seen. It wasn't exactly a necessary post so I really don't care whether it eventually decides to show or not.

This database is screwed. If the Form Submit took, why didn't the PHP script run through all the way? Or how did it return the page without running through all the way?
