I've been playing pokemons for only a few weeks. I've done a lot of reading message boards and other guides.
But I'm wondering... why isn't it the best idea to just have a team that can cover all weaknesses and doesn't have much overlapping weakness?
From reading several FAQs, there seems to be so many different types, hazer, baton passer, heal bell, spiker, tank, hazer, etc. I'm all confused!

I'm trying to make a competitive team but I fail at it.

Because if you don't have something that can take hits, you die. Sure, Zam can OHKO TTar, but good luck actually switching it in. Dusknoir, on the other hand, can take a Stone Edge to WoW back.

By offensive team I mean only pokemons with high stats and only attacking moves.
No support, no boosting, etc. Only attack moves, high stats for defense.

I know. I'm saying that purely offensive teams don't do well in countering things, while supporters counter a lot.

So what makes a supporter? Pokemons with status effect inflicting moves?

A Pokemon that supports instead of killing things.

Like Dusknoir. It burns the oponents so you can take them on easier.

Not against Ice Beam Starmie you don't, and I'm basing that according to the team on your Trainer Card.

Now, about the thing with all offensive teams... To some extents they can work, and to some extents, they won't. Some sure things that can possibly work would be to include attackers of many types, as well as include defensive attackers (Ex. Rhyperior, Tyranitar, Gliscor) to take damage.

i wipe out starmie, all my pokemon in my trainer card are faster than starmie (cept maybe flygon, and claydol)

besides, even if my attack aren't Super Effective, or OHKO on starmie, i go on double-battles only with this team, which means i have 2 earthquakes waiting for the "About to be fainted" starmie

I never do competitive battling (I don't have D/P ;-;), but the teams I raise are always offensive. I usually use stat moves when possible, and powerful attacks most of the time. I rarely run into trouble battling.

I'm laughing insanely. Are you positive that Gengar (350), Rayquaza (317), Salamence (328), and Typhlosion (328) can ACTUALLY outspeed Starmie (329 w/o Nature, 361 w/Nature)? They all fall prey to Starmie, believe it or not.

And nobody plays Double Battles, and that's a known fact.

There is also a massive Weavile weak. 5/6 are weak, 4/6 are OHKOd.

As soon as I raise a Weavile I will take you on.

Without something to back your team up, pure attackers won't work, theoretically. If you rely on a stat boost (Swords Dance), you might not be able to pull it off. But you said no boosters, right? Well, teams are usually prepared for an offensive onslaught, so you might run into a team which is prepared to counter offense, which is usually at least 1 or 2 pokemon. So you'd be stuck on that one pokemon who is ready to atake a beating.

Theoretically, of cousre. Someone (apparently Nameless111) might suffice with an offensive team, but I can tell at least one on his team can take a beating.

And there are people who play double battles. It just isn't played as often as single.

you don't want ALL offensives because you'll get ko'ed because your defenses are most probably bad. you might struggle with baton passers, and tanks, etc.

Not if you have any intelligence and patience whatsoever. Breeding and EV training are not impossible.

And it's a good idea to use supporting moves because sure, Specsmence is a threat, but not paralyzed Specsmence that's taking 25% from each switch-in due to Stealth Rock.
