Neither is better, they're all good. PC is more for gamers, Apple is more for socialites, and Linux is more for programmers.
All three offer an equal amount of use to a business structure.

I dislike people who commonly say that one is better than the other. They all have their purposes to which they do serve rather well.

Yes, Windows does have a core of it's own, I never implied otherwise. But they used Linux as their os while building XP, because they could easily boot xp from the source code without having to burn a disc and boot it from a separate pc. They made their own unix operating system to build xp.

I prefer Linux due to it's easy requirements and stability. If it weren't for gaming I would be using Linux completely.

You can get transgamings cedega and play nearly any game you play on Windows (even steam based games, I used to play Half-life 2 that way and I got a better fps rate emulating windows through linux, than I did by just playing on windows).

You don't need to go dual-core to use VMWare, also emulating linux inside of a windows environment isn't a great idea.
I was going for Windows in Linux. And I know you don't need dual-core, but it'd be easier should I need to do something in the background.

I prefer Linux, though its not my favorite, I prefer RISC OS overall, as this just can not be destroyed or corrupted through means of malicious software, the only way to do it would be to come round my house take out the rom chip and smash it to bits.

Though thats not the only reason I use it, lots of features are mensioned in these articles here: http://www.riscos.org/articles/pv_nov2006.html and the follow up to that article here: http://www.riscos.org/articles/pv_nov2006b.html

I think Mac, Windows, and Linux have their merits. The advantage in using a mac is if you do a lot of video and image editing. The advantage of Windows is if you are into games because of the number of games around. The advantage of using Linux is if you need a computer just to word processing, e - mail, and surf the internet.

And do anything else un-gaming related that can run on a low spec system with not much harddisk space.

Beat this I can with a 4mb operating system, code websites, create vector graphics, write multitasking WIMP programs, all without a hard drive, all you need is a floppy disk to save it too.

Yeah. There are specific versions of Linux for loungeroom media computers (record TV shows, burn DVDs, etc.) that are only about 1 meg big.

Windows is really for people who are semi good with computers..

if your windows pc is locking up, crashing, getting viruses etc regularly you clearly have no idea about windows.. and should buy the idiots alternative.. macintosh.

Linux is fairly basic sometimes (Ubuntu/Fedora Core) but linux like slackware is really advanced.. i really wish i could be bothered to learn about linx, i think i'd rather use it that xp, ive already dimissed vista, as its crap :P

I feel offended that you guys only mention Macs for "video and picture-editing". Its incredibly stable OS allows you to do much more than just that, and some of the utilities are incredibly powerful, especially due to its UNIX base. So yeah, you can pretty much guess that I vote Apple all the way. And Leopard will crush Vista.

You can't blame people for saying it. That's what Apple's been doing. I'm sure you've seen the PC vs. Mac ads. PC is shown to be good at anything you'd need in an office whereas the Mac is shown to only do "fun" things, like picture editing, video editing, slideshows...those things. Sure, I know they do more than that, but Apple isn't really promoting the whole business side.

Um, for the record, I use Windows. o_o

Macintosh is for morons who think they're better than everyone else, so they can then boast about it to all their Efriends about never getting viruses

the alternative is not being an idiot ;_;

Okay, in that posting instance, you've just sparked some offence. If you make posts with such forceful opinion in such a provocative manner in future, you will be infracted.
i think the manner in which macintosh get across their adverts is offensive, so hey snap!

anybody who knows even a smidge about windows could argue down a macintosh, to be not as good or just as good as windows.

sorry if i sound offensive, but i'm heavily angered by their campaign.

Umm... Linux can play PC games too, you obviously have to run a windows API environment in the background like Wine or Cedega to play them but not all of them are supported, and linux is not more for programmers, since it has grown a long ways. Depending on any type of idiot-proof distro you use(like Ubuntu, Fedora, Suse, MEPIS, etc.) even your grandma can use it, and if you want to start using linux, one ill recommend to n00bs is Ubuntu, give it a try, it doesnt hurt, especially with the LiveCDs, it doesnt effect your partitions in your HD. But programming, especially in shell is optional, even though most people rather use a GUI Desktop Enviroment like KDE or Gnome, etc. to handle their daily operations. But you dont get the full use of your linux box that way, unless you learn and use the shell command prompt, thats where all the power comes from, so if you dont like taking the time to learn how to use the command line, then your are most likely not going like linux, cause you going to get frustrated and intimidated when the time comes to use the console once in a while to solve issues that come up a lot of times. I too dont care what people dislike, or think which one is better then the other. Thats all user preference and choice, what matters is what works for you. Yes, let the OS/Disto/DE/App Wars continue, because its all rather pointless and they all end in terrible results.
