I don't know why post count goes up when someone posts in the New Users section. Anyone could spam each thread with the same thing and get 50 useless posts by the end of the day.

Yes, I post the same thing as well, but not for post count. I wouldn't be asking for this if I was, would I?

Anyway, does anyone else agree? =\

Many users post there for the first time, it would be pretty mean to not give them their first posts in the forum.
If spam occours, it can easily be deleted within a few seconds.

The spam comes more from the people who post in all the new threads saying "hi welcome to pc. pm me to be friends." I bet it'd stop if postcount didn't count there anymore, though. :x

I'm sure I used to have reasons for wanting postcount on in there though. I can't remember them now. @[email protected];

Depending on how many messages of yours get deleted, your postcount will go down by that amount.
If a message is deleted from forums where posts don't count, your postcount won't go down.

I don't really care if that section has post count or not becuase im not they're that much it would be a good idea to start that now becuase like otheres are saying useless spam is being made they're with people saying Hi welcome, Hi welcome barely anyone actually writes like 25 words welcoming someone by saying hi welcome if someone said that to me id be kinda hurt but yea if there was no post count they're would be alot of people not welcoming others -.-

What helps prevent a mass of people posting in new threads with the same generic messages would be the very rule there that prevents exactly that happening. Also, I agree with Scizz about newbies gaining their first bit of postcount from their very own welcome threads, it would be a bit mean to take that privilege away from them. I don't support the idea of postcount being turned off, but I do support the idea of encouraging members to be a bit more detailed and comforting with their replies.

It'd be sweet to find a hack that ups post count if you start a thread, but doesn't if you reply~ that'd be a good solution, imo.

I hope you don't mean hacking the forums...
Besides, then there would be the possibility of people making lots and lots of spam threads...

I think the posts should count, as long as you don't spam the same welcome messages over and over. I've seen a couple of people that've done that.

Not hacking the forums, installing a hack on the forums, there is a difference.

Anyway, I wish we could find a hack where you'd get the count for a thread start and none for replies.
If the Mods can keep the spam down from the welcome posters then we wouldn't have a need to turn off post count in that forum (same goes if the members in there wouldn't just post so they could run up their count). Because if we do turn post counts back on in there members will just post in there to run up their count, not to welcome members (and that should be the whole reason to post in there).
