If you aren't a mod/admin/assistant, read below:
What would you do if you were part of the staff?

I would crack down a bit in some places, and lighten up in others. It seems that the current staff gives too many breaks to some and cracks down too much on others.

I was just wondering what it was like... is it fun, or just a junkload of hard work?
It's more hard work rather than fun. There is fun in the job but not so much to the point where you find modding as a chore. And sometimes you feel the heat from other members and staff members which can really stress you out, as a staff member you can face slights and insults, flaming, etc. You need to really have the knowledge and sense to not let these things get to you. Being a mod can be fun, you can enjoy doing your job. But when it all boils over you've got to take responsibility for your actions no matter how dire the situation gets. And that can take a lot to stomach. So if anyone wishes to become a moderator in the future, they must take the time to think whether or not the job of being a mod on this forum is or isn't for them, with the pros and cons in mind. Because once you become a moderator your whole view of PC will change, and the job itself can be a burden.

I've been a mod for... just over a year and a half now. Though I enjoy doing my job, at times I feel pressured by it. But I've learned to take it easy and keep a steady stance. After all, I have to set an example in front of everyone else. I wouldn't let anything get to me so much where I'd see myself in a more 'unworthy' light. Everything I've said above really comes from experience. At some point in time I felt that I really didn't want my job anymore, it's just gotten to annoy the heck out of me. And you've no idea how much it feels to have things mounting on you. Like at times you're carrying a heavy stone on your shoulder that's ready to push you down with a lot of might. But as things get harder, you have a decision to make - to let things go or to keep going where you're going. The latter is a much easier choice. Last year I felt it was okay for me to leave. but then I decided to come back...simply because I missed this place, I also missed my job.

Nowadays I just do what I'm able to do. I close threads, move them, etc. And I'm pretty much content with how things are going. I love being a mod. You live and learn, and you know how to handle things a lot more better than back then when you thought you never could.

I love being part of the staff. There's a great feeling of being part of something that's really special. :) I do agree with Siggy though, it's pretty hard work. Knowing what to do in each specific situation is sometimes tricky.

um ; I would probably keep an eye out for people who are rude, spammers, people who "tiep liek thiz.. " [ sorry; I just can't typ like that xD ], give them a couple of warnings and if they are still annoying *BAN*
but offcourse, I'd be helpful :3 like you know, give a link to some newbie who can't find a forum or sub-forum around here..

Depending on the day, its not so hard as it is stressful. Specially when the forum is getting spammed bad that day and I have to go in and do cleanup. Or when important decisions need to be made and theres nothing going right.

Well, I'd be smart and say no if the forum they want to give to me with super busy. I barely have time for me when I get on the computer D:

Second, I wouldn't act different. I've heard stories from people about their friends getting modded, then acting different, not really mean, just in a weird way.

Third, I probably would only say yes to the fanclubs or voting polls area. I'm not going to go in over my head with pokemon D/P. No, just no XD

mmm, it really isn't too bad XD
well, though that could be because Other Cards and Japanese Entertainment are some of the more behaved sections, but every so while it has something that needs to be fixed, not too bad overall though

EDIT: Thank god i haven't been upgraded in the last 2 years XD

I'm sure having a bold username with a funky blue font color would be great and all but I'm not prepared for the responsibility that comes with it. I can imagine how telling off nOObs would be fun though. :x Joking. I'd help them out. Unless they were being really, really irritating and breaking forum rules deliberately. In which case I'd probably get myself banned trying to deal with them. x_o

Point blank, without this bolded and colored name, I'm not all too sure anyone would think I was a good example. I mean, Siggy's up there talking about setting a good example, and I'm down here, "LULZ LAZZ TALK N000000000B" So you know.

I mean, I love being a mod. It's nice to know that I'm... good at something, other then spelling things wrong and attacking my caps lock button.

But I hate having to set the example. Why? I personally hate being set apart from everyone else just because I'm a mod. What's the difference between me, and a normal member? I tell spammers to shut up, what level headed member doesn't? I'm not some kind of super human mutant sitting behind the computer screen. < < Or. Well. That depends on your definition of super human mutant, but really... well. :B I'm a strange person.

It's not super special, but it's definitely fun, because you meet a bunch of people you probably wouldn't have even considered talking to, and it's amazing to see how much funnier the rest of the world is... compared to yourself. x_x;;

Knowing what to do in each specific situation is sometimes tricky.

lol you think the job is stressing you any?

But I agree with you. Some people expect mods to be more than what they need to be. Sometimes members need to see a post like that to remind them that mods are humans too and not some super human mutants as you put it. XD

I was staff for...almost four years, but I quit a few months shy of my anniversary on April Fool's because I'm cool like that. Plus, no one believed it was true for a while. XD;

I always took my job seriously, and it was a lot of fun, but in the end there, I was getting far too stressed. :[ It's hard to juggle being an administrator and your senior year of high school and it wasn't working out. I was mostly involved in decision making, but sometimes the staff doesn't see eye-to-eye and things will take forever to get done, or there'll be problems you have to deal with and no one else is on...not to mention I couldn't even do any basic mod work to take my mind off the other stuff when I was on because everyone was already doing it for me. <_<; In the end, it was just too much of a chore and I wasn't enjoying it at all, so I quit. :|

And...now, months later, my interest in PC has returned. I've been here the whole time, but now I'm actually loving it again, which is great. So, naturally, I do feel like I want my position back--probably not fully, but I would like to serve the staff again. (Lol, I'm so blunt. XD) But I have to wait and make sure university won't take too much of a toll on my free time so that I don't run into the same problem as I did earlier.

Back when I was first modded in March '04, being a mod was awesome. I just went around doing everything I'd normally do as a member, but I had access to the Mod Lounge which was so much fun back then. And the work isn't really hard. It's only a few clicks to close or move a thread. And PC was a more relaxed, laid back, fun place back then.

Now, though, the rules are stricter and the staff have to be too. The Mod Lounge is dull and there is way too much rules enforcement to do, it's just no fun anymore.

I'm mod in another forum, and I can say that moderating a section is fun and easy, you don't have many things to do. There are exceptions- I woudn't like to be an emulation mod here, there are too much work (poor Semele), but I won't like to take care of all the forums as admins do. I wouldn't be able, I would have to count on the reports all the time.

Modding was definitely fun in my early days. I had a blast in the mod lounge and probably spent more time goofing off in there than doing actual modding (the joys of having a low activity area). There were some pretty stressing times in the higher levels, either because of certain members or disagreements in the staff but we always managed to get through them in one piece.

The reason I quit was because I found PC to be boring, I never really found any interesting topics to post in and my activity went way down, so I just quit before I became the random admin who never does anything and gathers dust.

I honestly don't drool upon the bold/colored/weird username, and you might notice I don't even care what my username is in the first place. What I like and I enjoy about being a moderator are my responsibilities, my authority to clean things up within my forums and take part on the several board-improving activities and discussions, I like to support the community I like.

It is fun, of course, sometimes, the way we "hang out".

I was administrator on a few small forums, and found things to be really stressful. I had to deal with every decision that came up from staff or regular members. It also isn't fun to just check on all the threads to make sure that no rules are being broken. And if you warn a member, you might get the backlash because they feel that they were punished for no reason. It's stressful and sometimes isn't fun.

Still, I would enjoy just being a mod. The section I would like to mod isn't that active, so it wouldn't get too stressful. But I would still feel kind of paranoid. I mean, with a bold blue name, regular members would look to me to set an example, and I would be freaking out every time that I post, wondering if I'm doing something strange.

I'd act like I usually do, posting and hanging out with my PC friends.
When I find a spam post/thread, I'd politley tell the rulebreakers not to do whatever bad thing they've done.
I'd be one of the nicer guys.

I think it would be hard to moderate a part of a forum that is as big as the Pokécommunity. I'm a moderator an a smaller forum, and when we wanted to adjus the rules we got in a fight with some members. So I guess I would leave the job to those who are more capable of moderating.

But if I'd do it, I would do what I always do: behave normally. Close threads that are as good as dead, note members when they're spamming, flaming insulting, and other stuff like that.
