If you spot such a thing, it's up to you to report that post and make the staff aware of it.
We can't be everywhere, so of course we might miss a few things.

<- Click that button at the top of the rule breaking post and provide a small reason for the report.
Then a staff member will attend to it.

Also be aware that, depending on the "profanity" used, people might seem like they don't care because it's not actually against the rules to use.

Case in point: a certain "d" word. I use that as an example because I've seen it reported several times, but it's been off our censors for a while and isn't against the rules to use (unless a post is flooded with it). Of course, if someone keeps using it against another person when they specifically know that person doesn't like it, that's another matter and is more along the lines of harrassment...but just using it or another similar word of a rather tame caliber, at least in moderation, isn't breaking any rules.

ok, thanks for clearing that up too. but isn't harrassment against the rules?

It is, yes, and I realized I didn't word things as well as I could have in my last post (I blame it on the fact it's still early here, heh). To clarify the harrassment bit: using those words is not considered such unless a person is using them to deliberately provoke someone else. Considering that the general assumption tends to be that other people don't mind seeing them (unless someone states otherwise), then people use those words just for the sake of using them, or for emphasis in a post, and not to get a reaction out of somebody.

Lemme understand. So if someone said; I hate breeding this "d" thing, would that be considered profanity? And I mean occasionally, not a chronic usage.

That's not considered against the rules. However, if you use it speaking directly to another member ("d--- you!") or if you use it an an unacceptable way toward a member...then it'd be against the rules. If you're unsure about usage, though, it's still safe to report.

In my opinion some sections should be a little more lifted of Profanity blocks, such as Fanfiction and Roleplay, in a fanfiction of mine I tried doing this; " No S Sherlock" and was suprised when it was blocked, it kind of ruins the dialouge to another word.

I say. Now anyway, some words like The "F" word and the "S" word should be blocked off. But when I posted a song in the poetry section, I was suprised the "B" word was bleeped out. Even though this is an all ages forum, most 6 year olds know some of theses words. And yes. It does spoil the mood. If it says Teen 13+ kids should know that its not for them (And this coming from a 10 year old who writes stuff with the "B" word in it). I'm just speaking opinon here, so, henh. Don't kill me.

I do not agree. Even so, it would be unreasonable to lift the censor.
(And this coming from a 10 year old who writes stuff with the "B" word in it)
That's a shame, really.

I don't even support the usage of such words in poetry overall. The Fan Fiction and Poetry sections as well as the Other Writing forum themselves seldom hold regular discussions too, and I personally feel the censor lift would mean the promotion of those words not only in the works, but in the members themselves; that is not our target. Take in count there's not always a reason to make use of those words and if you strongly feel the censor does "spoil" the fun in your work, I'm afraid that would mean it is not acceptable for PC in the first place.

Ratings are encouraged merely to mask more violent or mature discussions(as long as they don't fall in the category of hentai, for instance; minor sexuality topics/dialogues could be acceptable) on writings, not to advert the reader of cursing.

Seems like you guys will have to stick with a few full sensors over your beloved vocabulary, at least in this community.

I agree with Careful, I smack my 6 year old nephew in the mouth the minute he dares to curse, so I don't wanna see that here.

Kids are learning to swear so early these days. :[ I didn't even learn my first curse word until grade 3 or 4. That said, just because kids know the words doesn't mean it's okay to use them. It's called swearing for a reason and I personally see no reason to pull the censor off the heavier words. o_o;

Goodness. I didn't even swear until the Seventh Grade. And before that, when I heard one, I thought it was the biggest deal. I think the censors are a good idea. It may prevent younger children from cursing at such a young age.

If they are in like a fan fic, would one half to put in the appropriate censors or will they be exempt if one put a PG 14 rating before the story?
Such particular exceptions cannot be input into the forum censor, not that I know of. So a rating wouldn't help, because the words would still be fully disallowed.

I'd also won't support censor bypass as a solution for that issue in PFF.

Haha, really? We've got all these obscure words on the censor that I've never even heard of yet those two aren't?

Priorities, people. :[

dang dang dang dang dang

You got me all wrong. I'm not saying the censors are bad or should be lifted. Even though kids that look into a Fan fic or RP rated PG-13, they should know why (even though I was ounce part of a PG-15 RP but...) it's rated that. But yeah. You should sensor "w****" and 's***" so kids don't get the idea it isn't profanity.

Exactly... I mean, they aren't conventional curse words, but I still can't see how they could be used in anything but an insulting or negative light. o_O

But what if a staff member is the one doing the swearing?
Is it appropreate (sp?) to report them for things like that?

In my opinion, the "C", "B", "F", "S", "P", "D" words, and other words like that are considered swear words to me.

On this other Pokemon forum I went to, I was surprised that the "P", and "A" words were censored, but the "F", and "D" words weren't.
More people consider those two words to be more vulgar than the "A" word.
