[PokeCommunity.com] 11/30 - COTD - Strength Charm (EX: Dragon Frontiers)

    Rate & Reivew.

Sorry for no card yesterday. I was busy.

Thanks to Water Pokemon Master from www.pokebeach.com for the scan.

Tommorow begins "Blast From the Past Month" which will feature cards from the first 3 EX series, the E series, the Neo series, and the Classic series.

Ok, this card rally is a joke! 10 extra damage is pretty useless and won't be needed most of time. It also lasts 1 turn only @_@. Just Don't use it.

    1/10

This card is just a re-print of the old Plus Power...

But... It can be deadly in some hands like the Kingler from CG and the Quagsire from DF.

The 10 damage boost for 1 turn isn't very useful, but consider those times you just needed the extra 10 damage to win the game, but instead, you lost because of it...

But still, Defender is much, much more useful than this...

4/10 - too situational to be widely useful...

Gaaaahhh has anyone ever considered how much a game can be turned around at the cost of a minuscule 10 damage?
Just because the damage is low it doesn't make this card bad in anyway, very often 10 damage will determine whether an Opponent is KOd. Making Strength Charm a card that can completely affect the outcome of a game, particularly in decks with searching / fast drawing capabilities or for surprise damage in decks that can only do a controlled amount of damage.
If you've ever ran a SC in a deck its amazing how much of a difference it can make.

    7/10

It's funny jwilso72, every time when anyone rates low you try to see the good in the card, even if it isn't. 10 damage won't make a difference 90% of time, so uesless to use it.

Meh... 10 damage usually won't make a difference, especially if it's only for one turn. ._. I might not know very much about today's Pokémon TCG playing and which cards are popular etc, but I know that a 10 damage boost almost never has a big significance in the long run. I can only recall one occasion when I have had use of the Plus Power card which is basically the same thing as this.

Even if the card makes a real difference as often as you say, it won't change the fact that there are much better trainer cards you can put in your deck, making Strenght Charm practically useless.

I give this card 2/10 due to its very limited use. It can be useful on the first few turns of the game if your opponent only has one Pokémon in play and you need to knock it out as fast as possible. But nonetheless, this card is useless in most situations.

    Yes.. Ha ha. Funny..

Thats because I believe giving a card an unrealistic rating of 1/10 is absurd. It suggests that the card is completely useless and you have not considered there is ANY potential in the card whatsoever.
You give such a low rating because you disregard any possible uses of the card, despite it being one that can determine the outcome of a game.

When there is a low rating I do not rate the opposite to spark a disagreement. When rating something, it is essential to consider the good points in it as well as the bad - otherwise the rating will be biased and be very unreliable. Also I do not do it "every time" :\

In modified format there is much room in decks for cards that benefit a deck, regardless of how effective they are, and Strength Charm is a good example. I don't give out ratings, based solely on just what the card says, but also consider its potential in the format and metagame and the other possibilities this card can take advantage of. Importantly considering both advantages & disadvantages. This way, my ratings are often reliable and lets face it, a lot more realistic.:cheeky:

My final point is if a card is so bad as you have suggested, why has it appeared in so many decks? To demonstrate this point, I'll stick a link into the Gym, where the majority of competitive (& good) card players of the US and Europe discuss cards and decks. Here I went into the Deck Help & Strategy section and searched for any with the words "Strength Charm" in..
    https://pokegym.net/forums/search.php?searchid=692354
If you can't view the page, there are basically over 500 threads, with decks containing Strength Charms (usually 3-1, 4 for some such as Kingler d) in the each deck. It quite contradicts your 1/10 rating.

    Whoop :classic:

Oh, so you don't care about those Pokes that have 10 more HP than you can deal and end up killing you next turn? Okay.

Well, regardless of what you say, this card is handy if you need an extra boost to get in a KO. 10 damage is nothing to snort at, especially early game; when your opponent is setting up, you can use all the damage you can get in to finish the game fast.

On the other hand, it would be even MORE useful if it worked with bench damagers as well.

    6/10

After reading that all, I might change my rating. It indeed could be useful sometimes. 3/10
