4Kids Entertainment announced their fiscal 2005 year end results today. For the fiscal year ending December 31, 2005, 4Kids Entertainment reported $5.1 million in profit on $86.7 million in sales, compared to $12.7 million in profit on $103.3 million in sales in fiscal 2004.

Most of the shortfall came in the 4th quarter, where revenue was down $7.2 million to $26.9 million and profit down $4.5 million to $.5 million compared to 4th quarter 2004.

4Kids CEO Al Kahn said he was "Extraordinarily disappointed & furious at the results of this year."

Most of the shortfall was blamed on decreased revenue from Yu-Gi-Oh! and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Pokemon, and was offset by increased revenue from Winx Club, One Piece and Cabbage Patch Kids. In regards to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kahn stated that the decrease is sales was largely due a slower than expected transition to Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. While sales of older Yu-Gi-Oh! products have been tapering off, sales of GX products have been doing very well, but the products have been very slow to get to market.

Heading forwards, it was stressed that 4Kids wants to focus on properties it owns, as opposed to properties that it licenses. Fully owned properties and co-owned properties do not expire or have restrictions placed on them by licensors. New properties that 4Kids is committed to include "Viva Pinata," a game and TV series being produced with Microsoft, and Chaotic, a card game from Denmark for which 4Kids has purchased all rights.

4Kids TV ratings are up 16%, however revenue was down $0.6 million to $24.1 million. The decrease was due to a shortfall in advertising revenue. 4Kids expects broadcast profit to improve in 2006 because it expects increased advertising revenue due to the higher ratings, the revenue should increase in the 2006-2007 season. Also, 4Kids has renegotiated its deal with Fox for 2 more years (2006-2007 and 2007-2008) at $20 million per year, compared to $25 million for previous years.

4Kids sold all its shares in the Pokemon Company equally to the remaining shareholders for $1 million.

4Kids closed the year with $113.5 million in cash and investments, and $30.5 million in liabilities but no bank/loan debt.

4Kids Stock closed the day up $0.17 to $17.07 (1.01%) compared the the previous day.

HALLEJUAH!! This is definately good new for all anime fans out there! If 4kids keep this up, than that means that they'll be fewer anime license from them! :D

No...there stock increased in price by $0.17 v_v;;; It closed at $16.90 yesterday.

Glad they have nothing to do with Pokemon anymore.

^It may sound like good news to most people (I reacted as a very happy person at first...) but it was always PkmnUSA who was behind the dubbing in the first place. Now, PUSA will use all cheap equipment and low-paid voice actors to dub the ninth Pokemon season =\

Well, with TMNT, don't know what to think there, Yu-Gi-Oh is of course ending, and GX and Winx is overplayed, so what can you do? Pokemon, I don't know but we've discussed that enough. Considering how white hot they were 02-04, it was bound to happen eventually, at least they're breaking even.

Although not getting that extra 5 million from Fox, and selling the Pokemon rights for 1 million, doesn't help matters and rather showing a sense of desperation.

The fact they want to steer away from their licenses is a telltale sign, apparently everyone is doing that these days (Kids WB and Warner Brothers period).

Man... Poor Al Kahn... The man who ruined One Piece, Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, and so many other Animes... He's not making enough money to keep him from becoming "extraordinarily disappointed & furious". We can really feel for this guy, can't we? =P

I knew, knew that Fansubs would one day ruin Al Kahn. If this keeps up, soon 4Kids will be out of business and reliable companies like A.D.V. Films will purchase these Animes, instead. And if not, the Dubs will be brought down by Fansubs again and again until someone with potential does buy them. This is certainly good news.

I still wish Al Kahn would get his, though... I mean, after this, he's still going to be filthy rich, isn't he? I really hope he meets with an untimely death - and soon. (Yeah, yeah, I know. Real mature. But I doubt I'm the only one wishing it.)

You're not, trust me. I just want him to kill himself. Plus the rest of the 4kids people. They should all commit suicide

That's a really really dumb thing to say.

They have done some good dubs, and they do have some good original works. TMNT and Shaman King are examples of what they can do when they really try at something and don't pander to soccer moms. But those are the two good shows that they've done, too many bad ones to even it out.

Um... If you're referring to Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, I think that's an American production, not a Japanese Dub. Also, I don't exactly find all the "what the shell is going on?!" puns and such original, nor amusing.

And judging by the fact that 4Kids saw the need to release an "uncut" version of Shamon King, their first Dub couldn't have been any better than anything else they've destroyed done. And if their uncut release was anything like their "uncut" version of Yu-gi-oh, I doubt it was that good at all.

I was referring to the fact that when they try, 4Kids can actually put out some good work. TMNT is a pretty good series and is a lot more reminiscent of the old comics than the 80's series was. It's darker and more mature than most of what's on 4kidsTV.

Why do you put them in quotes? It's got the violence and bad words that people want, that obviously makes it ten times better. The fact is that Shaman King was one of the few series to remain mostly in tact, aside from the violence, the story was basically untouched from the original version. The uncuts had dubtitles, but everything else was more or less good. It had the Japanese OP and EDs, it had the background music, it had the proper credits, I don't see why people complain.

Yeah....the only think I like about 4Kids is the voice actors, I feel sorry for them loosing their places in Pokemon, but 4Kids themselves.... eh... I don't really care.

At least Pokemon during their time wasn't as chopped up as some of their other series(Ultraman Tiga) and they mostly kept the spirit right (Yu-Gi-Oh: it's watered down but you can still draw good conclusions).

Mostly the ignorance of the series in of themselves is the annoying part but I wouldn't rain down fiery death. Like all dubs, they bring an obscure anime into the mainstream and get the popular audience aware of it. Same thing with Sailor Moon and DIC.

But this isn't a dub/sub debate. As Blue said, when 4Kids tries, they can do it. Like TMNT 2.0 (although skipping the next season for a future AU? That's just dumb) and the Yu-Gi-Oh Movie. They can do great asides and cameos and in-jokes but they aren't writers and that's why they don't succeed so well when they make a product by themselves. Once they know how to write...then it will be less painless. And the TMNT writers are good professional writers from major shows (Gargoyles, Beast Wars, X-Men Evolution), maybe they can teach a lesson or two.

Now don't make me break out a ruler, you dub haters. Hee.

Well, can't say I'm not surprised. With 4Kids losing Pokémon to PUSA, this was bound to happen. Pokémon was probably one of the few shows that 4Kids did well on.

As for that whole dub thing, Yu-Gi-Oh! was watered down, but it does have its good moments. Still, I think there was only one time in the entire show that didn't have their BGM, and that was in last week's new-to-KidsWB episode, when Yugi says "I know I've said it a million times...". But they really need to get the uncuts in synch, especially Memory World's episodes, because that's the season that got affected the most by 4Kids.

LOL you guys gotta check out this old but yet hilirious VG Cats comic on how 4kids' business works! XD

I know its a bit outdated but it does have a good point.
