A really annoying Japanese-program-problem...

I was sorting through my programs and accidentally deleted my Japanese viewing...thing. I've tried to find another, but I can't seem to. All I want is to view the Japanese font, not install a bunch of complicated files that allow me to change Romaji to Kana and Kanji. All the Sites I've been to have either not worked, or babbled on about having a "valid" registration (which I don't have (who'd pay $500 for the needed programs when you can just get illegal ones for free? O_o)). Anyways, if anyone knows the program I need to view the Japanese font, please post it here. (Just view, not write. I don't want my Microsoft Word screwed with again.) Thanks.

Go to Control Panel and select Regional and Language Options. Click the Languages tab and tick off 'Install files for East Asian languages' and 'Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages'. Hit OK and then restart the computer.

Thanks a lot, Crystal Walrein. Sorry to ask, but where is the User Control Panel? I can never seem to find it. Does it vary from computer to computer?

For Windows XP it should be on the second Start column by default. For older OSs by Microsoft, it should be under the Settings menu.

Okay, I did that. But after I ticked the "Install files for East Asian languages," an error message comes up saying:

The file 'ftlx041e.dll' on Windows XD Professional CD-ROM is needed.

Type the path where the file is located, then click OK.

    Copy files from:

    C:\WINDOWS\options\cabs\i386

I don't have anything on a CD-ROM that could help, as I said. What should I do now? (Sorry to keep asking, but I'm really worried.) (I didn't need a CD-ROM the first time.)

I might just be saying something stupid, but I think you need to download the IME?
Just search on Microsoft for "Japanese IME" and amongst the first results there might be the thing that you need.

I'm not sure if this'll work, though. >o<

Nuh, that won't work, either. I don't have the CD needed. I downloaded the Japanese font without anything like that the first time. I'm sure I can do it again. I just don't know where to look.

Just search on Microsoft.com for "Japanese." It should come up with something that'll work, be it an IME or a language pack, and usually it'll just have to verify that your Windows version is legal before you can download. o_o

Yeah, that's why I couldn't use it. Almost everything on my computer is illegal. But I managed to find a Japanese program download that worked. So I'm happy. Thanks anyway, guys. XD
