I decided to edit some of the text in my hack, Fire Red Pro, to make it a little more cohesive. However, upon downloading and trying to open Advance Text, I got an error message saying that an OCX file was missing. Long story short, adding it didn't work, and after surfing the Internetz for a while, I discovered that the file in question ("Comdlg32.ocx") is actually a component of Visual Basic 6, which doesn't ship with Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 (I'm using the latter). Is there another text editor to use for FRLG, or a way to fix this? I'd rather not download a fairly sizable piece of obsolete software just for one little thing

The better way to edit text is through the use of both a hex editor and a script editor. The script editor will be used the most, and can edit the majority of in-game dialogue. Popular choices include XSE and Red Alien. The hex editor is for specialized text (including menus, Oak's Intro, etc.). Popular choices include Windhex, Translhexation and GoldFinger, all of which support special table files (which specify the game's character set).
