[PokeCommunity.com] AHHH! - Are you a fan of Scary Movies?

I've been thinking of merging my favorite horror movies into a Pokemon Game.. and it got my mind curious... is anyone else into scary movies/horror movies as much as me? If so, what are your favorite movies and why do you enjoy these types of films? Do you actually get scared from the material? If you're not a fan, how come?

I used to be a massive horror movie fan (horror fan in general actually) back in the day, but over time I lost interest in the genre entirely. I think that partly came from my interest in the 'behind the scenes' stuff I started watching for the SAW movie series, learning all about how the sets worked was really cool, but it also took away all the 'gross' factor when I'd see any of the deaths in the films after that point. And the same thing happened with other horror movies and things as well. Especially after getting into horror movie review Youtube channels like Dead Meat for their kill counts and another channel that goes over ways to survive horror movie plots and such. I just got super burned out on it I suppose.

As for favorite movies, I still love the 3 parter Rose Red film-thing. I love the one they made about The Shining as well, the ending always makes me cry afterwards due to- Aaaanyway, as I already mentioned I liked the SAW movies a lot, or at least up to the 7th? 8th? SAW 3D, whatever number that one was LOL. I haven't watched any of the newer ones to say.
The Stand is good if you're into movies with schlocky, heavily-religious themes. The last one that comes to mind is the Tim Burton version of Sweeney Todd, though I have a very hard time calling that a horror movie lol.

As to the last question, no, not really. I'm not one who gets scared easily, especially from fiction. But I tended to like the stories being told in the films enough to deal with the occasional thing trying to freak me out.

I completely get that. It's almost unfortunate how the people who like the genre the most, don't usually get exposed to the thrill that the genre provides to others. I'm a huge horror fan myself, but I've found a lacking of originality in almost all movies coming out now (I know there are a couple of exceptions - but I mean this broadly). That is probably what is killing the genre for me, but I still have a profound love for it.

& YESSS! I don't think I've met anyone else, either online or in-person, who has seen the Rose Red film and been a fan of it. I was a kid when I watched it first, and I remember being fascinated with the plot (and the idea that the actress was also from Halloweentown haha). I need to take the time to watch Sweeney Todd... I started it probably ten years ago and ended up falling asleep (not out of boredom, just exhaustion). I have a flight here in the morning, maybe I'll try to download it tonight to watch on the plane.

It seems like you're a big Stephen King fan - is that fair to assume? If so, (or I guess if not lol) what are your thoughts on IT?

100x nope, i'm very easily scared and something like a horror movie could stay in my head and make me unable to sleep for days DX
That's awesome, though! I wish I was easily scared... it makes the genre more adventurous and compelling!

Sort of? A lot of my favourite movies are horror - a lot of my favourite stories in general tbh - but I also don't feel a lot of desire to watch a lot of them anymore?
That makes sense - why do you think the desire to watch the genre declined?

Cool that you still love the genre. And from what I've seen from trailers and such, I completely agree with the lack of originality you mentioned from the movies these days.

I also first watched Rose Red as a kid, and I was instantly in love with the theme and setting for it. I loved getting to see more things I didn't notice back in the day whenever I re-watch it.
Heck, I even read the book they made about it and I'm not normally a big reader anymore lol. As for Sweeney Todd, the performances are incredible in that movie. Hope you find it to your liking in the event you do check it out again. (never have seen Halloweentown myself, though)

More like Stephen King having the monopoly on 2000's horror movies lol, but I wouldn't say I don't like his style either. More just him making a lot of successful stories that get made into well done movies for me. As for IT, I've heard the book got a bit... *Ahem* I've seen the Tim Curry version and liked it quite a bit, but I haven't read the book(s?) or seen the newer movie. Have seen a lot of memes from it, though lol.

No. However, it's not so much that I dislike horror, but that I dislike movies as a format. The few horror movies I've seen have been entertaining, but not enough to draw me into watching a format I don't like all that much.
I gotcha. I think that's the first time I've heard a response like that, so it's cool to see such a unique perspective regarding movies as a whole.

I wish I knew lol. I'd say something about real life horrors being enough, but I still write in the genre a decent amount. So who knows?
Ooooh - do you write on the forum at all/have you posted any work? What's your favorite genre to write in? I'd love to check out some of your stuff if you have it available on here!

Not really anymore. I mostly write as work now so my stuff goes up on my site. I'd rather keep that separate from PC though so I won't share here. Thank you for the interest though!

Not really, although I do have some exposure to them as a result of my brother being big into horror.

From what I remember, I found most of the horror movies he subjected me to, ironically, quite boring and pedictable, most revolving around the cast of characters making stupid decisions that result in their death/torture/whatever.

Of course, unless it's a good anime movie or true crime documentary, I don't watch movies in general nowadays. And for the record, I steer clear of most horror anime as well.

    Completely understandable!

As long as they're not overly gory I'm fine with them. Like stuff like SAW I don't like. Ironically I usually don't mind zombie movies though I'm not a huge fan of them either.
I feel like gory movies could be their own genre - a lot of the times they seem so dramatic, but the ones that get the gore to be so realistic... phew - those ones get me for sure!
Absolutely love the list & especially love the span across the decades, as well as the slasher films in there. Out of those slashers, who are your favorite. Ghostface is my favorite ^^

Definitely agree with you on the predictability. I think the movies that break that standard stand out so much more because of how predictable a lot of horror movies are within the genre.

I thought they wanted to talk about Scary Movie Parody films saga, 2025 could be great if they mook about woke crisis
