Latley, I've been thinking of the differences between the Pokemon Anime and the games and how they can impact your choice as the better style of Pokemon.

Some abilities you have in the Anime can never be copied into games. Dodging is an example. In the Anime, the Pokemon may dodge a move depending on it's physical status. However, in the game, dodging isn't available. Wont this lead to people making decisions on which they prefer? I mean, if one ability is available in the anime but not in the game, I would prefer the anime.

I think that the Pokemon Anime tends to focus more on the Pokemon physical movement and activness, rather than levels. An example in Ash's Turtwig. It is a very fast Pokemon, for a Turtwig, and it has really good abilities. However, given the time Ash spent raising the Pokemon and the fact that it only just recently evolved, this means that 2-3 months in the Anime time is 18 levels, which is how much is needed for Pokemon to evolve. Pokemon games, however, focus soley on numbers and signals. Even though they tried to implement love into the games, it still feels unrealistic. No matter how much they try, it will always be a game. That's where the anime differs.

Personally, differences like the ones above make me think that the Pokemon Anime will always be more realistic the the games. If you look at it from a neutral point of view, you have to see that most realistic actions in the anime (giving your Pokemon a bath and sleeping, for example) always have a more of an effect in the anime that in the games. Even battling in the anime has improved a lot. It tried to utilize a lot of ideas from the games, especially the Pokemon abilities to get us more used to the battling style that we use often. These are the things that make the Pokemon anime always beat the game in realism and should convince more people to watch it.

The other thing to consider is that the Pokemon game series has also improved. From Red/Blue to Heart Gold/Soul Silver, the games have had a lot of new ideas and features implemented to keep the fans waiting and wanting. To be honest, I think the games have come a longer way than the anime. Even though the anime has the effect of realism, the games always introduced new features and ways to use and battle Pokemon as well as communicating with other trainers. Also, you can never take away the fact that in that games, you're in control, however, in the anime, some guys who write down storylines for a job have the control.

Anyway, seeing that these differences make you wonder which one has a bigger impact on a certain individual to favour the anime or the games. What do you think?

Oh god, there is only one reason why I prefer the games better than the anime: Ash's Pikachu. I swear that that vermin is like lvl 100 or something

I don't argue that one is better than the other...they're different adaptations of the same concept. The games were initially limited by the amount of creativity Tajiri and his development team could put into a 8 Mb cartridge and, in later generations, gameplay traditions. The anime had no such restrictions so the interaction between characters could be more natural.

Personally, I believe that since the games came first, all other media attached to the Pokemon franchise owe itself to following the storyline and world mechanics of the games. I grew to dislike the anime over time because it deviated rather far from the storyline, mechanics, and even geography of the game's world.

Well personally I think the anime will always be more realistic then the game. Just like with any other game vs. show or game vs. movie. I really can't think of the words for what I'm trying to say, but I'll try to make it understandable.

A show is like an open plain. You can do anything with it. You can throw as many towns, characters, abilities, expressions, etc. as you want. You can hear the tone of the characters voices and see the expressions or body languages of them too. This gives you a full image.

A game is more like a box. It only has so much space. It has limits. You can't put eveything you want into it. As far as the games have come there hasn't really been a voice that is audible (unless you want to count the man in the Mauville pokecenter). You also haven't been able to see the characters expressions or body language except for some shots of pikachu in yellow version and now every pokemon in HG/SS. Also you can't throw in every town or city that ash and company visits. There just isn't an abundance of room like there is within a show.

Comparing the anime and games, you can see the comparisons of each. The anime is a widespread of the games. This allows the writers of the anime to view the journey of their main character(s) compared to the game and expand it as far as they can to keep viewers entertained. It will always give a more realistic version of the game as you can physically see the emotions, reactions, and changing of character overtime through each episode.

As for the game, there is only so much that can be done within that limited space. Even then, not all the storage in the game is utilized. It isn't as visual as the anime, but it does allow the player to experience what the anime may be like in their own way. Yes, it may lack the movement of the anime and the added in locations and effects, but by the looks of it, it still keeps the fans playing. So, again, comparing the two they each have their differences. They each have their ups and downs, but in a case like this it really comes down to a personal preference for each individual on which one might choose to prefer over the next. For myself, I prefer the anime because of its visual representation of the games I play, and I prefer the games because I can make my own journey out of it. However, if I were to choose between the two, I wouldn't be able to decide because I am a fan of both.

In the last couple of seasons in the anime, I've really noticed a concentrated effort to make the battling more alike to the games.

You used rarely see, pokemon carry out moves that raise attack/defence/speed whilst not doing damage to the opponent, battle effects are more visible now such as burns/paralysis/poison, pokemon are switched around during battle a lot more now to counter type and there is a definite improvement in the tactics/strategy aspect of it now.

These things never occurred during the Kanto and Johto anime arcs, I suppose the writers thought it would make the battles too long ,sluggish and less intense if for example Squirtle suddenly does tailwhip midway during a battle. Plus the writers may have thought that the focusing too much of tactics/strategy may have been a bit boring to the kids that were watching it then.

I'm guessing with the slowly declining popularity of pokemon anime, they've tried to focus it more on the games in the effect of trying to appeal fans of the games to watch it.

Basically, this. A lot of the concepts the Anime has introduced are all fine and dandy in a television show, but adapted into a game it would simply make no sense. Dodging, for example, would get extremely annoying - can you imagine the battles? They'd go on forever. -.-

So I don't prefer one over the other or think that one is 'better' or has 'more impact' than the other. I think they're both great, but for different reasons that simply aren't compatible.

Both have their drawbacks. While the anime is more open-ended in terms of locations that can be added and people that can be encountered, you're shoe-horned in to watching the events unfold through the perspective of a single main character. Their Pokemon team. Their strategies. Their attitude toward battling. And unfortunately, the anime as it stands has a main character that I find to be very unappealing and unattractive, and who fails to carry the show well. If the anime had a more likable cast, I might not denounce it as much.

In the games, you are locked into a specific storyline path. However, you call the shots as far as what Pokemon you use, what attacks you arm your team with, and your name and gender.

And we don't need dodging in the games. For two reasons:

    1) There are enough sub-100 accuracy attacks that the concept is pretty well simulated in the games.
    2) Nobody in the anime knows any synonyms for "dodge," like "avoid". They say dodge too much I parodied it in my fan fiction where my character issues commands like "Dodge Caravan that!" and "Dodge Charger to the right!" XD

I think they should try make the games more like anime, I would it if we could train our pokes, like take them out of the balls and make them work out.. And that all moves wouldn't be from TM's.. One could help the poke devolve the move..
