The problem with a lot of filler episodes is that they don't portray characters from the series properly.

I really hate filler episodes. Especially when they're on the comedy side. I just have a hard time getting into really light-hearted things these days, unless they're actually funny (like One Piece or Ouran High School Host Club), but it's rare that the filler will be anywhere near as funny as it was intending.
In fact seeing as most series full of filler that I've seen are hardly funny in the first place, it is just a total drag to sit through.
But I have to admit it's even worse in a anime like Bleach where you get a serious filler arc that lasts for 40 episodes. Thank you Bount arc, you killed my original liking of Bleach. I just can't look at it the same after those two years I had to take a break from it because of that stupid filler arc.
I even have a hard time watching filler from the anime I love because it isn't furthering the story at all. Primarily why I watch anime is to learn more about the characters and watch the story unfold. When there's filler it means absolutely nothing to the overall story and bores me.
