At the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival yesterday, they announced a new Sword Art Online film, with a brand new story.

(Among the many things that were announced, Index 3 was not one of them)

They haven't really said anything about it, and the trailer was as vague as could possibly be:

    Next is...

    SAO Movie

Since it's based on original LNs, speculation has put it as either a side story or a bridge between SAO II and Alicization.

They'll be releasing more information soon in a few days.

They also said that they'd sell a special set of 131 SAO OSTs.

    Lastly,
Illustrator abec will have an art collection book, and fans can vote for which characters will appear on the cover.

I'm ready for some fanservice trash.

    No Index 3? That's depressing.

I wonder if this will have anything to do with the next game in the series...I think that's supposed to be a prequel or something, so maybe this will be too? I dunno; I don't really care, SAO is a great example of an awesome concept gone horribly wrong. I can't see this being something that is actually enjoyable. xD

Well, yeah, the Index novels are actually selling extremely well to the point where they don't even need another anime season to try to boost sales. That's part of why Heavy Object has an anime adaptation this season while Index does not. They're trying to boost sales for other semi-popular LNs in their stable of series.

SAO's movie is probably somewhat tied trying to boost sales for the game, and they're probably intentionally being vague on the details of the plot.

That makes perfect sense for them to do. But it still sucks. :/

Anyway, SAO again, huh? I dropped it somewhere in the second season. But I'll give this movie a shot - it is just a movie, after all. Doesn't require as much investment as a series does.

Hollow Realization is not prequel. I'm pretty sure it will be "sequel" to Lost Song.
And everything is non-canon anyways so I don't think it will be connected somehow.

I'll probably give it a watch (maybe when I'm not sober so as to protect my brain cells) but eh, other than that, not hyped up for it. Nothing else could top Mother's Rosario for me.

Ugh, I don't like the idea of original content but well, if it's being written by the author himself it probably won't hurt.

The problem is that if there's source material waiting to be adapted I can't believe they decided to make a new movie with original content. Therefore: Y U DO DIS SAO

Because there is NO source material waiting to be adapted.
Right now, Alicization is the only thing that is not adapted and obviously that can't start with a movie, right? =D

At best, they could adapt Progressive or the S&L&L spin-off but that also isn't something movie-worth =D
