So I was thinking that once a week there could be an art showcase, where someone picks up on a design from A&D (or anywhere, with credit) and talks about it. Perhaps with interviews from a couple of other users asking about their thoughts and opinions of the piece, and hopefully showcasing some really good artwork that can be found on PC and across the net. I think this could tie in especially well with the DA page PC has, would bring attention to A&D (which it could always use more of) and could show off some generally good pieces of art that can be found across the net.

My first thought on how this would go would be as follows:
Either myself or Fairy, or a user picks out a piece of art from PC or the net, and submits it to an art reviewer (myself or Fairy) and we'll ask them why that piece was picked and what they want to say about it. Once accepted we'll then ask other users for their opinion, hopefully getting some mixed reports to make it interesting. After that, the user can submit their story to you with the quotes and image and after a bit of editing, you have your showcase!

I realise that it may be Fairy and I submitting the stories most of the time to begin with, but I don't intend for that to stay as such. Hopefully through this and other means, A&D will become increasingly more active and more users will participate. That's the plan anyway.

Overall - yes to the general idea! Let's work out the kinks.

For starters, there was a general idea (not in a separate thread here however) of doing fan work reviews. That idea would include art but not be restricted to it (so e.g. music, fics, LPs, hacks, anything with Pokemon in it.) So something that we'd need to sort out is if we have a few separate series of review articles for different media - Art Showcase, Hack Feature, Writing Showcase would be the main ones, and Other Fan Works Features, perhaps, for anything else more niche. With a consistent naming scheme (like ___ Showcase) or different and better names for some of these. :V

Once a week on average seems fine if you feel yourself and Fairy could manage it. I'd rather not state it is once a week in any intro or blurb however just so we avoid hedging ourselves into something we're not sure we'll always maintain (because real life sucks).

Interviews will always be cool. I did one with a musician for an article on my webzine a while back as a follow-up article - I feel separate articles for interviews is better than condensing it all into one post. Dave made a separate thread about interviews as well, just need to be careful to not clog up PC Daily with interviews! I'd say that they shouldn't become the norm either.

Seems sensible. To start off with, I'd pitch all artwork pieces in a new thread in this section here so anyone else can give their two cents before it's approved, and then work on the article in a copied thread in the main section... unless you want to (after the ideas thread here) make a discussion thread in the art section for any member to discuss the piece, then take their replies into the article writing thread. I have a feeling that's what you mean? You can say (after it launches!) that replies will be used for PC Daily in the OP and all... if done before then we'd have to keep things more secretive. ;p

Later when new users pitch stuff to be reviewed, they'll have the same process - make a thread here, and one of you can have your say on it before continuing.

Would you be aiming to have a review done as one of the pre-launch articles? If so, what would you want to review?

Yeah, probably be best not to mention any kind of routine, in case we cant deliver for whatever reason (and I know all about life being sucky).

I didn't mean them as full on interviews, which would take up an entire article, but rather as gathering opinions to add within the main showcase article. This way, the writer can discuss the various opinions held about the piece, and go into how the piece gives these different opinions and so on. Full on interviews wouldn't be the target for these articles.

I definitely wouldn't start it before PC Daily is launched, but posting the art in A&D with the knowledge that opinions would be used for PC Daily might be a good way to attract attention to A&D from PC Daily, and vice versa.

    That was the idea :)

Hmm, I would probably say no to that, in the aim of secrecy, preparing an article before launch would likely be a struggle. But I'll give it some more thought, and come back to you if I find another approach that works better.

Ah, okay. That makes sense and seems fine to me.

I think the general approach already had would be good. Only way around that and maintaining the secrecy is to ask people on staff to offer up any other things, as well as choosing an art piece either made off of pc, or by a pc staff member.

    Bump!

Now that Daily is live and had a week to get started, I'm interested to see if you guys are still up for running this.

Starting the thread in A&D still makes sense if you wanted that route, and then we can copy into the Workshop section for proofreading or do it over there. Replies on the published article may need to happen in a separate thread however - comments on the article are tied to an auto-generated thread.

I was looking through the forum hoping this would get a bump! I'm still in support so long as everyone else is. You guys just tell me what you need and when. o/

I'd be happy to help with this! I had the same idea and PMd bobandbill for it :PP

However I got a question, will this be restricted to pokemon art?
As explained elsewhere, the preference is for Pokemon content on Daily even if we'll allow for occasional exceptions (and that stance has not changed between any of the Daily Staff since). If an article is on one specific piece of art, we'd rather that it be much more often than not be a Pokemon piece. This especially applies to fanworks not on PokeCommunity (you don't need to feature stuff only on PC, although obviously it's nice to do so). Same goes for fics, fan games/rom hacks, etc.

If the article is about a collection of art (e.g. "Here we feature the work of memberno394, here's a bunch of examples") then if only some of their work is Pokemon then a mix is acceptable - it doesn't need to be just the Pokemon stuff, but we'd like some of it to be.

Jake chips in to say that there'll be a section/column on the main page set up later for featuring creative works ("Featured Works"), and he wants those ones to be purely Pokemon content.

That's up to you in part! Separate threads for each article to be written (as they come) is ideal (it'll help Daily staff know what's going on), and as said earlier it can be organised in here or A&D, your call. And we'd like heads up when you pitch each article idea (so what is going to be featured, general gist of who writes, structure, etc), and after that when the article is ready to be proofread (which can be in the Workshop subsection but if you want multiple writers, either here or in A&D).

This thread meanwhile can be posted in/bumped for general discussion or heads up about the series of articles as well. As for when, since we just started out the sooner the better for new content. ;p
