We have to admit, at one point we were all too young to have formed our own musical opinions. So who dictated what music we listened to on long road trips, etc. back in those days? Our parents/grandparents/legal guardians otherwise, of course.
This thread is all about the kind of music your parents or other parental figures listened to when you were just a small kid, and whether or not it influenced what kind of music you like today. :D
My dad came of age in Texas during the seventies, so he has a strong liking of Southern Rock, and later, 80's Heavy Metal. When I was a kid and he was in control of the radio station, it wasn't uncommon for me to hear Lynard Skynard, Queen, ZZ Top, or AC/DC. To this day, I still love me some Lynard Skynard...it just reminds me of my dad ever since he's been gone. I also still like classic Metal, but more contemporary death metal just turns me off. >_<
My mom, on the other hand, was more of a disco girl during the seventies and later, a fan of 80's Synthpop. To be honest, I still love some epic classics from that genre...but the fact that it 'evolved' into the N'Sync and Britney Spears crap that was around when I came of age just kept me away from the more contemporary versions. XD
To summarize, my current musical tastes envelope classic rock, contemporary punk rock, dance, 80's synthpop, j-pop, and video game remixes...some of it was influenced by my parents, obviously. XD
