Being silly vs Trollin'

    When has someone crossed the line from just being silly on a forum/chat to full-fledged trollin'?
     
    I'd say it's a matter of intention. There's no malicious intent when trying to be silly, but when you're trolling, you're deliberately trying to provoke a reaction out of someone.
     
    Trolls have malicious intent and try to provoke a response. While being silly is well.. being well silly.
     
    You can't really compare the two, as they have two very different intentions. But that confusion has arisen only because 'trolling' has been so overused, it's original definition is lacking...

    Thus it is to say someone who is being silly is being non-chalant and otherwise not putting heart into what they are saying or doing, just a whimsical thing as Epsi said.

    Trolling (the real kind) does it just to provoke someone to get any kind of response due to the troll. A troll will not regret it either.
     
    I've seen some people who are new to Pokemon and when they make honest mistake too much their accused of trolling.
     
    Well, Silly is:
    "The act of being ludicrous, to provoke humor into those around and watching."

    While trolling is:
    "The act of purposely saying horrid things, trying the provoke a bad, angry reaction out from anyone from the designated website. The act of proviting that angry responce is known as 'Feeding the Troll'."

    As you can see, there is a THICK line between the two.
    The signs are pretty obvious when silly becomes trolling.

    Being silly is being a smartass, being a troll is being a complete and utter self-righteous jerk who's only purpose in their pitiful existence is to taunt those they feel are below them.

    NONE of my posts today were silliness, they were all troll (well, maybe a few were troll mixed with silly...and it's not like my concience wasn't hurting me and in genneral, I had to make it pretty ovious what I was up to. that's how I am'...yeah). 'Cept for this post and the post before it--neither of those 2 are trolling. I'm just tired of stupid society and the 'nerds/normal people' stereo typical 'enemy'ship in genneral...

    Because, seriusly--I have NO REASON AT ALL to see nerds as my 'enemies'. For the loongest time, the only friends I HAD were nerds, pretty much. They were all thats around. And usually, their nothing but good to me (with SOME exceptions). That's why the thought I 'should' be...ENEMIES with them is just... appoling, to say the least. Yeah...Thus, I disided to take a dark turn today. And troll.

    Because I couldn't hold in all the anger and stressfull pain any longer. And i've raped myself of the freedom to cry, even though both my mom AND my brother have been trying to tell me it's okay to cry lately...I don't care...but at least I did everything I *needed* to do today...*sigh*


    And I don't really regret it at all...actually, to be honist, I do. But it's not like it could have been helped...soo...yeah....*sigh* Anyways...that is all....

    There are other ways to handle stress besides resorting to trolling if you're so worked up about the nerds/normal people war thing online. :/ Play a game, read a book, watch a show/movie, etc. Those things and more can keep your mind occupied with something else besides what you're so stressing out about.

    To be on topic, everyone else said already the difference between troll and being silly, but I like to say a couple other things. I don't know why people resort to trolling in the first place if they know of the consequences. Also, I hate it when one person trolls, other people think it's okay and cool, so they do the same. Drama llama sucks. :<
     
    I think a certain person that I know NEEDS to learn the difference.

    And the difference is, a silly person is doing it to make people laugh.
    A dumb person honestly has no idea that they annoyed someone.
    A troll says and does horrible things just to provoke a reaction.

    I read up until your little tangent about "hello kitty." Then I skimmed through the rest of what you wrote. You're uh...kind of an egomaniac, aren't you?

    I can't help but to feel as if sharing your entire life's story is irrelevant to this thread. I mean, goddamn, what does you playing animal crossing, or being a vegetarian have to do with ANYTHING?

    I'm sure there are better places to be sharing these feelings you have than a pokemon forum full of people you will never, ever meet.

    There's different degrees of trolling too, there is like the obvious troll, and then the one you can't tell at all.

    But I have to agree that it is amusing when someone gets all worked up about something (even troll or not). This is merely because the internet was just like that... It is to be expected, and people shouldn't really complain about it.
