    Which forum software is best to use? I'd like to have something that is very customizable in user groups etc., so I don't really like InvisionBoard; I'm leaning towards YabbSE, but that also has its drawbacks. I also want something that has lots of hacks available, most notably a karma hack. It needs to be a free PHP/mySQL software (so not vBulletin, which you need a licence for).
     
    Personally I love YasBB, proboards where always sweet but they had ads bah

    PHPbb is very nice, simple to skin, And you can change the Custom Title thing easily

    vB is a god. Tougher to skin but evreything is right there for you, maybe as an admin to take a screenshot to show you what the panel looks like

    myBB I have never used but its a free vB look alike. It may be the same or it may be a terrible forum program. Maybe install it and check it out.
     
    phpBB is really easy to use... and I'm an expert at modding it. ^.~

    The usergroups are incredibly easy.

    The only drawback is that there is no built-in global mod. You'll have to install a hack for that.

    ...and if you go with phpBB, try and find 2.0.6. 2.0.8 sucks. -_-
     
    Definately go phpbb. It's the best for what you're looking for.
     
    I like YaBB the best. And I'm pretty sure there already is a carma system on YaBB forums, so you wouldn't nedd a hack for it.
     
    No built in G-mod? O.o;; Weird. Still, I often can?t tell the difference when I visit a vB2 board or a phpBB board. Hmm. vB3 is most obvious due to the top style and the navbar in the header.
     
    Nope, there isn't a built in s-mod position. Not quite sure why. :P

    But there are quite a few hacks that you can add in... though 2.2 has built in G-mods I believe.

    It seems to me a lot of board software rips off the designs from vB for its search and error pages. X.x; That?s why I always have to look at the footer to see which software it is. Sure, you can customize it but still. =\
     
    I doubt it would be as bad if vB was free... but since it's so expensive, people look for a way to get all the features for free...
     
    Sure, but I?m saying they could at least try not to make it look like an exact copy, add some features, change the style! Oh well, I never have and probably never will run a orum.
     
    Well, I'm going to take another look at YabbSE, and also at phpBB, since it has been a while since I looked at either.
     
    phpBB and some hacks would be cool ^_^
     
    Most people make the vB skins just to make it look like they do have a vB...

    Some people even go to the extent to change the footer to say it's a vB... -.-;;
     
    LOL, that's funny, I have a phpBB forum with selective themes, but I really dunno much about forums. I did however, put an IPB theme for it as well. :P
     
    I hate the defult IPB theme...

    You don't need to sign up for phpBB to use it. Just go to www.phpbb.com and download it. You can sign up for their community for a better scope on how to use it but other than that, you don't need to sign up for phpBB.
     
    phpbb is most likly to be the best free one and vB the best costy one
    it would be good if there was phpbb free or something like that lik IPB has so that people didn't have have a mysql database to own a phpbb
     
    Well, that invisionfree site isn't the best. It's limited. ^^;

    If you just want a phpbb forum with limitations, go to dk3.com or something.
