So, we know this is the first generation to have two paired versions set in the same region but are still completely different in that the story is different between the two, and also the Pokemon encounters.

But, which one of the two did you prefer? Were you into the mainly story-focused Black & White or the bigger and more post-game heavy Black 2 & White 2? Give your reasons!

Both for me. Fuck trying to pick one. Black2/White2 far and away has the better post-game though, but you can't have them without Black/White, not to mention that I still like Black/White's story a little better than B2/W2.

I'm with Nah here, both games were great. They have their differences but put them together and they still make for a great experience, because you have one pair that's story-centric and another with huge postgame content. Literally so much came in one package as far as this generation is concerned.

Black 2/White 2. I probably should like Black and White more than I do, but I've always had trouble with the Gym Leaders unless I stop everything once I get to a new Gym and grind up an entirely new team made up of nothing but Pokemon that have a type advantage over whatever the Gym Leader uses, which ends up making playing those games more of a chore than anything else. I feel like they might have increased the difficulty in Black and White to force people to switch their teams around and use as many of the new Pokemon as possible, which is great and all but it makes replaying them even more painful since you're going to end up using a lot of the same Pokemon due to the limited selection.

B2/W2, because of all the content that's packed into it. Don't get me wrong, BW are great as well, but once the Pokemon League is done, the amount of stuff to do compared to the sequels is much smaller in comparison, giving them less time to spend playing.

Out of the two, if I'm trying to decide which to replay, I'm probably going to go with BW2. I love both sets of Unova games, but BW2 has a lot more going for it in terms of replayability. The regional dex is huge, the gyms are fun and unique, post game is massive, and the difficulty is there (not to mention challenge mode for replaying). I do prefer the story of Black and White over the sequels, but mostly because I felt it was more put together and BW2's just made things a little more confusing and kind of took away the story-telling of BW's. Like it was more a return to old "bad guy wants to blatantly rule the world" type of deal. And don't get me wrong, I like BW2's story even though it's pretty botched, but of the two, BW's was just told better and stood out from any story in the series previously.

I'm sure anyone who knows me here knows what I think about B2W2, and this generation being my favorite. And while I do love BW, I can't lie, some of the people there that are part of B2W2's hatedom make very jarring claims about the latter being the same. If it weren't for that, I would probably pick "Screw it, I love both". One of these days I am going to rant about those fans calling the sequels copy/paste...

Don't get me wrong, I do still like BW a lot, but sometimes the hatedom of the sequels can turn me off from the former. And I get that people have opinions, and it's not even their not liking the game (much) that irks me so much - I just feel like the claims that they're the same can get really insulting.

BW2, far and away! While I'll admit that BW had the better story, BW2 provided the more enjoyable experience for me as a whole. It felt like there was a lot more to do, and it expanded very nicely on everything that was present in the originals. Plus I think there's something to be said for sequels. Getting to revisit the Unova region and see parts of it we didn't get to see before made the whole region feel a lot more dynamic and interesting.

I absolutely love gen 5, but BW2 are really what made it for me!

Never really finished B2/W2, so I can't offer much of a detailed opinion on those, aside from the fact that I have literally over four-hundred hours logged on my copy of Black and I put Black 2 down before my party was level thirty and made more of an effort to pick up my other games than that one. Yikes.

I really loved so many things about Black, especially my copy, considering that I squeezed LV. 100s and shinies out with a lot of effort, but that's probably bias, considering that I don't know how many other people have had the same luck. Even in the face of generic or even bad luck, I feel like Black brought a humongous amount of fresh, new content to the table, and raised the bar perhaps a little too high. Perhaps that's why I didn't think too highly of the Gen 6 games, though the race customization was really incredible and I loved that element of diversity.

Either way, continuing on that train of thought, a large part of my reasoning for really loving Black was the fact that it was my first later generation game; I'd always played Pokémon XD, Pokémon Yellow, Pokémon Blue, etc., and I never got around to playing DPPt because we never wound up buying it (we bought a cat that year instead and just never made up for it). The only newer games I had played were HG/SS, both of which I received for Christmas sometime after that.

Hmm 0.0, I can't pick one e.e'! They were both great games ^^ I like the stories, the Pokémon, the routes, the evil team, the citys, the gym leaders! I liked these games (not my favourites though)! I know, they have their differences, but for example, I enjoyed playing Pokémon Black for the first time, I was excited ... When I played White 2 for the first time, I was not that excited! There are things that I prefer in White 2, and other things that I prefer in Black and I can't decide which game is better! So that's why I choose both ^^

I think BW2 made many improvements over BW1 , but gotta hate the fact that the story took many steps backwards. BW1 are the only games in the Poke series which have a real story. I think they showed us that the world of Pokemon isn't just black and white. The main story made me question the morality of making Pokemon fight each other and I also loved what they did with Bianca's and Cheren's backstories. There were actually good characters there who had real life problems, like Bianca's conflict with her dad. All that got undone in BW2 in which team Plasma was simply evil, just like in every other Pokemon game. Don't you think?

I like playing through both games – heck everyone does. But B2W2 holds a special place in my heart. Personally, I felt that it was a proper game with that felt more finished; well it was a sequel. I liked how they went with the storyline and shied away from the original formula. The fact that they bothered to flesh out Team Plasma and show its growth/branching, compared to other teams that remain static throughout the franchise, was a defining trait of B2W2's success imho. Elesa, my favourite character, got an upgrade, so that's an extra plus. Join Avenue and Pokemon World Tournament were great post-game content and still entertain me years after game completion. ^^

    I hate you Nichole I can't pick between them k {XD}

Yeah, I actually love all Gen V games, it's not an exaggeration to call Gen V as the most completed generation. Everything is almost perfect -- Plot, new Pokémon(of the Generation), characters, post-game! Sure I have a few stuff to nitpick on, but generally the whole Gen V is great.

Voted B/W2.. but thinking on it now I probably loved both.

B/W had the better story without a doubt. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and loved Team Plasma/N's involvement, especially towards the E4 and the final battle. The characters were great, music was lovely (aaaa Dragonspiral Tower), and the new Pokemon were cool despite what some others felt. It introduced some of my favorites like Cinccino, Whimsicott, Mienshao, Musharna, Serperior, and others.

B/W2 though included a lot more of my older favorites and brought in Colress who was one of my favorite antagonists. I loved the new areas to explore and especially adored Cheren and Bianca's growth over the years. The story didn't grab me as much as the prequel but I loved absolutely everything else. And Eevee! Being able to catch it early on was awesome.

    Unova, I love you. <3

This is what I think makes 5th Gen stand out, the fact that there seems to be something perfect in every aspect and that helps make it memorable for someone who has played the games. Most think two different games with different stories going through the same region is pointless but put them together and you'll notice how important it is to tying up loose ends.

    Black 2 and White 2.

Whilst the story isn't as good as BW and Ghetis is a poor villain this time around the post game is the best in the series for me.

I still play the PWT to face my favourite Gym Leaders in battle and the White Treehollow is also a lot of fun.

Also.whilst I did not think Iris was the right choice as Champion, my battle with her (And Caitlin) are among the best I have had in Game. Duelling Haxorus' Are epic.

Black 2 and White 2 are amazing. Gotta choose them. I'm honestly not a huge fan of Black and White. They're kinda boring to me. Such a shame. :(

omg you mod a forum where you don't like the games. smh

I am the opposite of you though. I much preferred the originals. I like how they restricted you to only being able to capture the new Pokemon. It gave you a feel of starting Pokemon anew again!
