Hello guys, first off I just want to say, off of reading a few threads this community responds amazingly and it's wonderful, great job. I've played Pokemon since leaf green up to black and white but then I quit after i beat it. I sold all my consoles and games but my friend is going to be giving me his DS lite and i just have a few questions. I have this huge urge to start playing again and catch all the pokemon and play competitively but before so I was wondering what games I would need if I wanted to catch every single pokemon possible (excluding events) Also I have no idea how the consoles after the DSi work, such as the differences between 2DS and 3DS, so could someone explain to me what consoles i would need to achieve this and what games needed? (Such as leaf green on ds then transfer to a game like soul silver then transfer that to black and white?/ORAS? Sorry if I sound so uninformed) Also what's new within Black and white 2, X/Y, and ORAS? Thanks I'd appreciate it greatly and sorry if wrong section.

I'm sure a mod will put this where it belongs.

To avoid confusion. When talking about the 3D feature of the 3DS I will say (3D)

As for your questions, I can help you a bit.
    2DS and 3DS? They're the same except the 2DS doesn't have (3D) capabilities. And the 2DS doesn't fold shut.

As for the transferring of Pokemon, I can't really help there.
Black and White/BW2 give us a whole bunch of new Pokemon, mechanics, items, faster pace to battles, fully animated sprites the list goes on.
X/Y gave us what we always wanted, a 3D Pokemon game, with models and textures and everything, and a ton of new Pokemon! Never played so that's all I know.
I'm about half-way or so done with my first playthrough of ORAS and from what I've seen it polishes features X/Y gave us.

On a 3DS specific parts of the world and the battles are able to use the (3D) of the 3DS, otherwise it's plain old 2D.

To play the new games youll need

    3DS/3DS XL/2DS
    New 3DS/New 3DS XL

All of these are backwards compatible with DS games.

To transfer to any gen 6 (X/Y/OR/AS) you'll need one of the gen 6 game a subscription to Pokemon Bank and a copy of a Gen 5 game (B/W/B2/W2).

Its slow and painful transferring from gen 5 to 6 (I transferred 649 pokemon!) so my advice is to just get one of X/Y and OR/AS and get all the pokemon you can from those (not sure how many non events are missing) then wondertrade GTS trade to get missing ones and only transfer your events or missing standard pokemon.
