    _________________
Opens sign-ups for another round of Archipelago. Invites anyone who has not joined one of these before to participate. Welcomes back past players too, of course.

Will give you a quick-ish rundown of what Archipelago is, for those who do not know.

    What is Archipelago?
Describes it as a multi-game randomizer tool. Explains it best with an example.

Start by imagining a standard randomizer of Pokemon Red/Blue. Mixes up all the items in a way to be possible to complete the game. Might get the Soul Badge from Brock and Surf from an item ball in Viridian Forest. Takes you to Cinnabar Island, where you challenge Blaine next. Could find the Fly HM and Thunder Badge there, along with a free fly point, to Celadon City. Continues like this until you have all 8 badges for the league.

Now, instead of that, imagine a game of Pokemon Red/Blue AND something completely different, such as Link to the Past. Shuffles all the items from the two games together and spreads them out between them. Results in things like defeating Misty for Link to the Past's Bow and buying a Cut HM in Link to the Past at the bottle merchant for 100 rupees.

Permits multiple people to play a randomized seed together. Could also set it up locally and play all the games completely single-player.

What games are supported by Archipelago?
Lists all the games here: [Link]. Includes Pokemon Red/Blue, Pokemon Emerald, Minecraft, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Terraria, Ocarina of Time, Stardew Valley, and more. (Note: Designed Terraria and Stardew Valley for an earlier version. Believes both detail how to adjust your game for an earlier version. Should be able to find versions on the current game version on the Discord too. Could link you to the Github page.)

Mentions more games currently in the works, many with playable versions (with some bug potential). Mentions Pokemon Crystal, Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green, Mega Man X (and X2 and X3), Open Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, and Earthbound. Full list: [Google Sheets Link]. Suggests avoiding any in Alpha, unless you have prior experience with this randomizer. (Encourages you to try it on your own time, however.)

Requires you to own the game you wish to play, of course.

    A few other notes
    • Plays this cooperatively. Wins when everyone completes their goal(s) for their game(s). Please only play the game(s) you signed up for, unless the person playing is okay with it.
    • Asynchronous. Do not worry about being coordinating when you need to be online. Sends and receives items from a server you connect to.
    • Offers trackers for some games. Probably tells you on the game's setup page, if there is one. Involves downloading more stuff to do that. Considers a tracker helpful, but not necessary. Recommends using a command like !missing (a command native to Archipelago) to see what item locations you have not gotten, if you do not use a tracker.
    • Will need a YAML from you when you sign up. (Explains what a YAML is in the setup guide linked further below.) Amounts to a text document with all the settings you want. Cannot attach them directly on the forum. Must attach a .zip folder (or figure out some other way).
    • Feel free to send YAMLs for multiple games. Advises only one game for first-timers. Generally takes less time to play your game than an unrandomized version, thanks to some time saves like increased experience, shortened cutscenes, and other features. Beats Pokemon Red in about 4ish hours with blind trainers and x2 experience, for example. (Increases significantly with some settings, such as Dexsanity.) Varies by game too, of course.
    • Plans to keep sign-ups open until . May extend it if people need more time to set Archipelago and make sure it works. Cannot join once it has started. Expects this to run for...3-4 weeks? (Depends how active everyone is. Can get bogged down if one person is inactive, especially early.)

How do you set it up?
Wrote a setup guide for version 0.5.0 here: [Link]. Covers setting up Archipelago itself. Follows a second set of instructions for setting up the game you wish to play. (Check the game's page or the Github for the games in development.)

Is not well-versed in how to solve many technical hiccups. Will try to help, if able. Thinks of one possible thing: Likely installs it in C:\ProgramData for Windows 10, which is a hidden folder. To see hidden folders, open File Explorer. Hit the View tab up top, then check "Hidden items".

This reply is mainly just to say hey and remind myself to make my YAMLs, I'll edit them in or somethin' later. For now, I'll say thank you for the ping! I'll also say that I'm interested in playing some or all of the following: The Messenger, Metroid Prime, Cave Story, Castlevania Circle of the Moon, and Pokemon Emerald. If we're planning on putting a deadline on this and not wanting it to run too long, feel free to limit me to only x number of games or something.
Edit: Though it is worth mentioning The Messenger and Cave Story should both be very small games, I believe The Messenger was one of the shortest games on our last Archipelago and I'd expect Cave Story to be smaller than that. Figured Prime or Emerald would be most of my checks overall so it'd balance out.

Consider me signed up. I'll have a look through the games list, but I can already say I'll b running the same 2 again + more if I can get Archipelago running on my gaming laptop.

Edit: As an update to this, I already have my YAMLs for those 2 games ready to go in the event I can't get it working on my other laptop. I looked through the list and picked out Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Subnautica as my other games of interest, provided I can get them working.

Plans to make a few small changes, barring objections:
    • Previously automatically released all your game's remaining items upon reaching your goal. Changed it so you have to manually type !release. Figured it suited the more completionist side of things. (Still allows you to type !release whenever, so be careful. Cannot undo that.)
    • Disabled !collect.
    • Changed !remaining from any time to only after goal completion. (Tells you exactly what items are remaining in your seed, but not where.)

Does not plan to set any deadline to finish. Would like to be done with it in about a month, though, if not sooner. Begins running into broader time conflicts like (more) exams, Amercian Thanksgiving, and Christmas preparation beyond that.

Play as many games as you would like, if you think you can finish them within a reasonable timeframe (assuming you are not blocked by long inactivity, anyways). Recommends not doing some longer settings like Dexsanity for Emerald if you plan to do all 5, for example.

Same as usual, I'm playing A Short Hike. I contemplated adding a second game, but I either don't own them, or I'm not consistently good enough at them to play as a Rando. A shame Rain World doesn't have an Archipelago mod yet, I've been playing the hell out of it. I'm tempted to look into all the dev docs honestly, but I'd have to get better at modding the game itself first.

Regardless, here is the YAML. Same one as before.
    YAML:
    name: VendilyShortHike
    game: A Short Hike
description: Generated by https://archipelago.gg/ for A Short Hike
    A Short Hike:
      progression_balancing: '50'
      accessibility: items
      goal: help_everyone
      filler_coin_amount: 21_coins
      random_walkie_talkie: 'true'
      golden_feather_progression: hard
      easier_races: 'true'
      golden_feathers: '20'
      silver_feathers: '2'
      buckets: '0'
      sticks: '8'
      toy_shovels: '5'
      coins_in_shops: 'false'
      cost_multiplier: '100'
      shop_check_logic: fishing_rod
      min_shop_check_logic: 100_coins
      start_inventory: {}
      start_inventory_from_pool: {}

Sweet, this'll free me up to complete my goal mission prior to beating all 83 missions in SC2. Here is that game's YAML file, with the difficulty upped to Hard and a couple other changes (mostly starting with basic static defense buildings).

This is not my only game, I'll also try and get Sonic Adventure 2 and both Doom games set up as well. Maybe Pokemon Emerald too... but I need time to decide and figure out setup stuff.

@Devalue I'm finished most of my YAMLs but I was also thinking I'd like to play Bomb Rush Cyberfunk this time around if possible. I know it caused issues last time and couldn't be properly finished, so I wanted to ask if it'd even be possible for me to try it, and if so, if there are any settings I should avoid or things I should be made aware of/we should talk through before I try it out? If not I'll look into playing Emerald instead.
I also wanted to correct myself earlier, so far I've got The Messenger, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, and Metroid Prime YAMLs. I had to write/edit a lot of stuff in there directly by hand, so be ready to expect any issues you'll have to let me know about once we get to testing.

Here's my four YAMLs, superseding the post above that just had SC2.

I will need a test session to make sure Sonic Adventure 2 and both Doom games are working properly.

Would be fine with Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Definitely test it out when the test run goes up. Supposedly cannot get the check for 389 graffiti spots. Will probably send you that right from the outset via server commands.

Knows no settings for you to avoid, offhand. Only ever played a little of (vanilla) Metroid Prime, between the three YAMLs given.

Seemed fine on the YAMLs. Noticed you put a few Time Shards as local items. Successfully put all the specified ones in your game. Mentions 50 Time Shard packs still floating around in other games. Do you want to change Time Shard (100) to Time Shard (50)? Or do you want both the 100s and the 50s in local?

Hi so is there anyway i can do this on mac? I'd love to join in! I also see undertale is on the list so i can play that!! (disclaimer i am very very bad with computer stuff so i might need help setting things up!!)
Possible? Yes. Found a guide here: [Link]. Easy? No idea. Lacks any experience with Mac stuff. Might not be of much help. Feel free to post any problems you encounter, though.

Looked down the steps. Does not generate a patch file for Undertale, for the record. Under "Steps to run the client", try either "python3 UndertaleClient.py" OR "python3 ArchipelagoUndertaleClient.py". Presumes that to be the client you want. Hopes that helps, if you try to get it working.

Edit: Also, the Undertale setup page: [Link]. Says nothing about Mac. Might be similar enough to Windows to make sense, but again, no clue.

No worries. Plans to do a test server...Friday or Saturday? Probably Friday. Could always fire up another test server if more YAMLs come in or need to be replaced.

Thanks! I assume it's easiest to just take that check right from the start with commands, makes total sense.

If anything, I assume the YAMLs are just full of unchanged settings or weird text formatting because I essentially just took whatever """default""" YAMLs I could scour for and changed up anything in there. I know the one for Prime is just filled with suit and HUD colour changes I didn't touch, but I figured it was way safer to keep an unchanged setting than risk removing anything. I've successfully launched BRC and Messenger with Archipelago installed just to make sure they worked on my end, but Prime and SotN are apparently gonna require you sending me files to load after my YAMLs are loaded and a game is hosted and all that. Though I did get SotN running pretty easily on BizHawk, I'm just apparently using a different BIOS than what the guide recommends and hoping it'll be fine. Goes without saying this is my first time trying out anything in Alpha lol
If something really doesn't work out, then yeah, I'll just try Emerald. Dexsanity sounds really fun if both of those happen to catch dirt and I'm left playing only three games...

Thanks for catching that! I'd prefer to keep the 50s in local but have the 100s put in other people's games. I probably just meant to make 50s local and made 100s local instead by mistake.

Here's my BRC YAML, that should be all of them now.

Hopes you feel better soon. Noticed you went for Insanity entrance shuffle. Should be a ride. Be sure to take good notes. Hopefully finds you a decent weapon early.

Nods. Considers it best to leave all the settings and stuff in there. (Never tried removing stuff. Might just go to the default?) Ignores, like, the entire bottom half of Link to the Past's YAML. Usually designs default YAMLs that are on the tame side. Only knows of Pokemon Red/Blue's default YAML being bad, likely because of an error.

Thanks for catching that! I'd prefer to keep the 50s in local but have the 100s put in other people's games. I probably just meant to make 50s local and made 100s local instead by mistake.
Changed it to 1s, 10s, and 50s local.

I do not understand like 90% of the things to do for archipelago, and i would normally try to find a video on how to do it but i can't find a mac one, way to complicated for lil ol me, sorry about that! DX

I'd offer to help you look into it Lavy, but as you know I'm not well at the moment... In the event there's another one later I can, though. :p

    @Alex_Among_Foxes @Setsuna @Explorer of Time @PoryKid575 @Vendily
Decided to toss up a test server now, because why not? Collected a good number of YAMLs already. (Still accepts new YAMLs from anyone, as well as changes to existing ones, until about .)

    Test server: [Link]
    Server address: archipelago.gg:60100

Do not forget that the server becomes inactive after 2 hours of inactivity. May see a connection error if you try to connect to the server while inactive. Just refresh the room page to start it back up.

Released all of DevalueLink's items. Ought to receive a couple items immediately.

Changed PoryKid's slot name to PoryKidStar, to reflect the game being played. Might have been able to fit PoryKid575Star. Shrugs. Feel free to request something else.

Attached files for Setsuna. Should be able to download files for any other game in the room. Attached the spoiler log.

Added a Super Mario 64 in there, in case Alex_Among_Foxes ends up feeling a little better. Used the default YAML but turned on entrance randomizer (levels + secrets) and move randomizer. Will delete it for the actual game unless it gets okayed.

Tested whether or not games automatically release at the goal. Turns out Slay the Spire and maybe Rogue Legacy auto-release at the goal, regardless of settings. Should not happen for any other officially supported games. Cannot say how Alpha/Beta games will fall. Assumes no auto-release for them, given how few officially supported do. (Kind of understands for Slay the Spire. Finds it pretty tough to get every single check.)

Can I suggest 'PoryKidM&L'? Having Star gives Stardew vibes since he played that last time.

It's something I'd need to get Archipelago working from scratch, get the necessary emulator/s, and do a bunch of testing for on a new laptop. I don't think that even if I did feel well enough to work on it in the next couple of days, I don't think I'd be ready with it in any reasonable time for this session, sadly. But I appreciate the thought regardless. ^^

I can confirm that SC2 is not auto-releasing, and that the !release command works for it. I'll test the other three games after dinner now that they all have some items.

I'll give everything of mine a test tomorrow, or maybe even later tonight. I'll update you then. Thanks for the files!
